The Side Character Who Wins by Doing Nothing

Lu Sangjiu entered Moon Viewing Tower. She’d barely taken a few steps when she saw Chi Yan waving at her from the second floor. ”Daoist Lu, over here!”

Feng Lin then walked over to Chi Yan’s side and greeted her with a smile. ”Hurry up and join us. It’s my treat today—there’s more than enough food and wine!”

Feng Lin had booked a private room. This time, it was a private gathering for just the three of them. Since no one had brought any outsiders, they could all be themselves.

Although Lu Sangjiu and Feng Lin spent most of the time listening to the boisterous Chi Yan, he truly had a talent for storytelling. Anything he talked about, he made sound fascinating.

Without realizing it, Lu Sangjiu had a few more drinks. The demure act she usually had to put on began to fade, allowing more of her true personality to show through.

Trouble chose that exact moment to come knocking.

A knock from outside the private room interrupted their conversation.

Chi Yan frowned. ”Who is it? What do you want?”

But the person at the door didn’t answer, only continued to knock.

”Tsk, how annoying.” Chi Yan got up irritably to open the door, muttering to himself.

”Knock, knock, knock! What’s all the knocking for? I asked what you want, but you won’t—”

He trailed off mid-sentence. When Chi Yan got a clear look at the person outside, he froze. ”What are *you* doing here?” he asked, his tone unfriendly.

Curious, Lu Sangjiu looked over, only to see Chi Yan stepping aside to look back at her.

Lu Sangjiu’s eyes met the person at the door... Well, well, if it isn’t Ye Zhiyao.

’Sometimes, Lu Sangjiu honestly felt like she and Ye Zhiyao were destined to be enemies. It wasn’t just that she had it out for Ye Zhiyao; Ye Zhiyao seemed to sense it too and paid her an unusual amount of attention.’

’Otherwise, why would she keep coming back for more after losing to her time and time again?’

’But since Ye Zhiyao never dropped the pretense, Lu Sangjiu had no desire to be the one branded a villain. And so, the two of them were stuck in a stalemate.’

’They both despised each other, yet on the surface, they insisted on maintaining a peaceful facade.’

Glancing at Ye Zhiyao standing in the doorway, Lu Sangjiu looked away. She took a casual sip of wine before speaking. ”Did Senior Sister Ye come looking for me specifically? Heh. Your network is certainly impressive.”

Ye Zhiyao heard the sarcasm in her voice but only pressed her lips together without saying a word.

When no one invited her in, she simply walked in herself.

Chi Yan and Feng Lin had both dealt with Ye Zhiyao before. They knew what kind of person she was and held her in low regard.

However, she was clearly there for Lu Sangjiu, so it wasn’t their place to tell her to leave.

Ye Zhiyao walked up to Lu Sangjiu, putting on her usual pitiful act. ”Junior Sister Lu... after the incident at the restaurant, I’ve been looking for a chance to explain things to you face-to-face. I can’t help but feel you deeply misunderstand me.”

”But when I went looking for you later, I found out you had left Muxian Town.”

”Today, I happened to hear from a friend that you were here, so I made a point of coming to find you... I hope I haven’t disturbed you.”

Lu Sangjiu’s lips twitched into a smirk. ”These are all my friends here. You don’t have an audience. Who, exactly, is this performance for, Senior Sister Ye?”

”Besides, we both know perfectly well whether or not this is a ’misunderstanding,’ don’t we?”

Ye Zhiyao’s expression immediately fell. ”I sincerely wish to reconcile with you, Junior Sister Lu. Why must you be so aggressive?”

When Lu Sangjiu showed no sign of replying, she bit her lip and added, ”Also... I came today because I wanted to talk to you about something concerning Gu Jue...”

She glanced at Chi Yan and Feng Lin. ”It’s just... not very convenient to talk here. Junior Sister Lu, would you be willing to step outside with me for a moment?”

Lu Sangjiu, however, looked entirely uninterested. ”If this is about Gu Jue, why are you telling me? Shouldn’t you be talking to him?”

Ye Zhiyao had thought mentioning Gu Jue would be enough to make Lu Sangjiu follow her. She never expected this reaction.

Left with no choice, she could only say vaguely, ”It’s about that day... when Gu Jue helped you in front of all those people... You might not be aware, but it caused... other problems...”

At this, Lu Sangjiu’s brow furrowed slightly.

’She could ignore anything else, but Gu Jue had helped her. If he’d gotten into trouble because of it, she couldn’t just ignore it.’

’After all, knowing Gu Jue’s personality, he would never tell her himself. Hearing it from Ye Zhiyao was the quickest way to find out.’

Although she didn’t really trust Ye Zhiyao, after a moment of deliberation, Lu Sangjiu stood up. ”I’m just stepping out. I’ll be right back.”

After telling Chi Yan and Feng Lin, she followed Ye Zhiyao out of the room.

Of course, she wasn’t a fool. She had no intention of going far with Ye Zhiyao, stopping less than ten meters from the entrance of Moon Viewing Tower.

She casually set up a barrier and looked at Ye Zhiyao. ”Whatever you have to say, say it. Don’t keep me from my wine.”

Ye Zhiyao bit her lip. ”Junior Sister Lu, I know you may have a misunderstanding about me, but I must give you a piece of advice... It’s better for you not to get too involved with Gu Jue.”

Lu Sangjiu: ”...”

’She really hadn’t expected to hear something like that.’

’Even though she had no romantic interest in Gu Jue, Ye Zhiyao’s words still disgusted her.’

”Whatever is between him and me, why would I need you to tell me about it? And on what grounds are you saying this to me, Senior Sister Ye?”

Ye Zhiyao immediately said with great earnestness, ”You’ve misunderstood. I’m not saying this because I have any feelings for Senior Brother Gu. In fact... I’m saying this for your own good.”

”Liu Xi wasn’t there that day, but she’s already heard the rumors about you two.”

”You know Liu Xi is in love with Gu Jue. When it comes to him, she’s a madwoman, capable of anything.”

”She’s been making all sorts of trouble for Gu Jue lately. If she finds out you’re back, I’m afraid she’ll come straight for you.”

”Take my advice: don’t get on a madwoman’s bad side over a man. If it hinders your path of Cultivating Immortality, you’ll surely regret it one day!”

Lu Sangjiu: ”...”

’How incredible. To think I’d be hearing this kind of advice from Ye Zhiyao.’

’If she hadn’t read the original story and known that Ye Zhiyao herself had fought Liu Xi to the death over Gu Jue, she might have actually believed her.’

’Lu Sangjiu suddenly felt this was all so pointless. To think she’d stepped out just to listen to a load of crap.’

She didn’t want to waste another word on Ye Zhiyao. She turned to head back to Moon Viewing Tower.

However, she had barely taken two steps when a golden light flashed, and a barrier suddenly blocked her path back to Moon Viewing Tower!

Lu Sangjiu’s eyes darkened. She hadn’t expected Ye Zhiyao to be so bold as to attack her out in the open.

She spun around, only to see Ye Zhiyao with a look of surprise on her face. ”What’s happening?”

Then, Yi Ze’s figure emerged from the shadows. A cold smirk played on his lips, his gaze fixing on Lu Sangjiu, as cold and venomous as a viper’s. ”You’re quite good at hiding. I have to admit, cornering you wasn’t easy.”

Lu Sangjiu narrowed her eyes, a cold smirk spreading across her face. Though she was clearly at a disadvantage, her powerful aura didn’t waver in the slightest.

”So, it was you... What, did Du Xing’er run off? Did you find Ye Zhiyao as her cheap replacement?”

”I have to say, their personalities are actually quite similar. You may be a womanizer, but at least you’re consistent in your tastes.”
