The Side Character Who Wins by Doing Nothing

Shen Yuzhao had indeed received the inheritance of the Divine Fire Sword Technique.

Although he had only just managed to master a small part of it in his spiritual world, with the enhancement of his Abnormal Fire, it was more than enough to deal with Ye Zhiyao.

He forced Ye Zhiyao back with just a few sword strikes, and with the final one, he even shattered her Magic Treasure Longsword!

”My sword!”

Ye Zhiyao cried out, her face filled with heartache.

But then, Qin Yu, who had just been injured by Lu Sangjiu, recovered. He stepped forward to block Shen Yuzhao’s next attack and said urgently, ”Junior Brother Shen, this is all a misunderstanding! Calm down!”

Shen Yuzhao’s expression was grim. ”I saw it with my own eyes. What misunderstanding could there be? If you keep getting in my way, I’ll kill you too!”

Don’t be fooled by how cowardly Shen Yuzhao usually was; once provoked, he became completely unhinged.

Right now, he didn’t care about them being from the same sect; his only thought was to kill Ye Zhiyao, no matter what!

Seeing that Qin Yu couldn’t hold out for much longer, Ye Zhiyao felt despair and unwillingness well up inside her.

But at that moment, the voice of the Sword Immortal suddenly echoed through the stone chamber.

”Tsk, what a good show. It seems using the Mind Confusion Technique on you wasn’t a waste after all.”

Qin Yu was startled, and realization dawned on him. ”You actually used the Mind Confusion Technique on my Junior Sister?!”

’No wonder Junior Sister was acting so strange today. So it was all this Sword Immortal’s doing!’

Meanwhile, Lu Sangjiu was left speechless. ’How could that explanation have come at such a perfect time? It’s like it was tailor-made to whitewash Ye Zhiyao’s actions!’

’Besides, he didn’t even mention any names. How did Qin Yu immediately know he was talking about Ye Zhiyao?’

’This is just a retcon, a forced justification for all the ways Ye Zhiyao has acted out of character today.’

’Is this... the treatment a female lead gets?’

’She does something bad, and it’s immediately explained away as her being under a Mind Confusion Technique, that none of her actions came from her own heart.’

’And just like that, she’s back to being the innocent, kind, delicate little flower.’

Good grief. Lu Sangjiu could only think, ’Good grief!’

She was too angry to speak, but the Sword Immortal wasn’t finished.

His voice continued, ”Although the one attacking you now is my sole successor, considering you did help me teach those two ignorant juniors a lesson, I am a man of my word. I will gift you a Sword Technique!”

As he finished speaking, Ye Zhiyao’s eyes immediately lost focus, exactly like Shen Yuzhao’s had earlier.

Meanwhile, Shen Yuzhao’s movements faltered slightly when the Sword Immortal spoke.

After all, the man had just passed on his Swordsmanship to him, making him a quasi-master. It wouldn’t be right to turn on him so quickly.

But he was still unwilling to just give up like this.

So he didn’t stop his attacks on Qin Yu, but his assault had clearly slowed.

Lu Sangjiu, on the other hand, was screaming internally again. ’I can’t believe it! Even after all this, he can still force a reason to give the female lead a Sword Technique?’

’From the sound of it, though, what he’s giving Ye Zhiyao isn’t the Divine Fire Sword Technique.’

’After all, the Sword Immortal did say that Shen Yuzhao was his sole successor.’

That made Lu Sangjiu feel a little better. As far as she knew, the Divine Fire Sword Technique was this Sword Immortal’s true ultimate skill.

The other Sword Techniques he possessed might be powerful, but they definitely couldn’t compare to the might of the Divine Fire Sword Technique.

’In comparison, Shen Yuzhao got the Divine Fire Sword Technique, Xie Ningyuan got the storage ring, and Ye Zhiyao only got a second-rate Sword Technique.’

’In that case, my mission to steal the female lead’s opportunities this time should be considered a success, right?’

At this thought, Lu Sangjiu no longer wanted to be entangled with them. After all, she couldn’t kill the female lead, she’d already gotten everything she came for, so if she wasn’t going to run now, when would she?

So she called out decisively, ”Third Senior Brother, stop fighting! Let’s retreat!”

Shen Yuzhao was very obedient to Lu Sangjiu. The Sword Immortal’s words had only made him hesitate, but the moment Lu Sangjiu spoke, he pulled back without a second thought and turned toward her.

”Help me carry him!”

Xie Ningyuan was still in a state of deep meditation, and Lu Sangjiu couldn’t possibly leave him behind.

But she was injured herself and didn’t have the spare strength to carry him, so she could only trouble Shen Yuzhao.

Shen Yuzhao didn’t hesitate. He hoisted Xie Ningyuan onto his back and followed Lu Sangjiu, running toward the main gate.

Lu Sangjiu thought they were moving fast enough, but just as they were about to reach the entrance, Ye Zhiyao woke up!

It was unclear whether the Sword Immortal’s Mind Confusion Technique hadn’t worn off yet, or if Ye Zhiyao simply wanted Lu Sangjiu dead.

In any case, the moment she regained consciousness, she launched another attack at Lu Sangjiu.

What she used this time was clearly not her old Swordsmanship; it was most likely the one the Sword Immortal had just taught her.

Its power was quite extraordinary. It was a good thing Lu Sangjiu dodged quickly; otherwise, that single blow would have sliced her in half.

When Qin Yu saw Ye Zhiyao attack Lu Sangjiu the moment she woke up, he naturally assumed she was still under the influence of the Mind Confusion Technique. He didn’t try to reason with her and directly moved to intercept.

”Junior Sister, guard your mind! Don’t let your emotions be swayed again!”

”Get out of my way!”

Ye Zhiyao showed Qin Yu no mercy either, attacking with a killing blow.

And when Shen Yuzhao saw Ye Zhiyao attack Lu Sangjiu again, he immediately wanted to strike back.

But Lu Sangjiu grabbed him. ”Let’s just go!”

’No matter how crazy Ye Zhiyao gets, she wouldn’t actually kill her own supporting male character, right?’

’Besides, maybe if I leave, Ye Zhiyao will calm down?’

Unfortunately, though she wanted to leave, Ye Zhiyao refused to let her go. Even with Qin Yu trying to stop her, she launched another attack at Lu Sangjiu.

Seeing the gate right in front of her but being unable to reach it, Lu Sangjiu was half-dead with anger.

But it was a case of one disaster after another. At that very moment, the stone chamber suddenly began to shake and tremble!

Lu Sangjiu’s heart skipped a beat as she remembered the original novel. After Ye Zhiyao received the inheritance, the entire stone chamber collapsed, taking the whole surrounding area down with it.

Li Qiancheng happened to be nearby at the time. Hearing the commotion, he came over and saw Ye Zhiyao and Qin Yu’s pathetic escape. Out of sect solidarity, he stepped in to help.

Then, after saving the two of them, he happened to discover a stalk of Hell Grass in the collapsed area.

In order to save his master, he risked his life to get the Hell Grass, but he was swallowed by the collapsing ground and never made it back up.

’Although I’ve changed the plot, the collapse is clearly still happening. That means... Li Qiancheng has to be just outside!’

With Li Qiancheng’s life on the line, Lu Sangjiu became even more desperate to leave.

But Ye Zhiyao was dead set on tangling with her. Lu Sangjiu could only grit her teeth and say, ”Third Senior Brother, you take him and get out first! If you see First Senior Brother, remember to tell him not to come anywhere near here! I’ve got this!”

”But...”

Shen Yuzhao was worried and wanted to say more, but Lu Sangjiu cut him off sharply. ”No buts! Go, now!”

He had never seen Lu Sangjiu look so severe. Despite his worry, he trusted even more that she had her reasons.

So, without another word, Shen Yuzhao gritted his teeth and left first with Xie Ningyuan on his back.

Just as she expected, since Lu Sangjiu didn’t leave, Ye Zhiyao paid no attention to Shen Yuzhao and the other.

Watching the two of them leave safely, Lu Sangjiu breathed a sigh of relief and immediately shouted, ”Qin Yu, the chamber is about to collapse! If you don’t want to die here with us, help me knock Ye Zhiyao out!”
