The Side Character Who Wins by Doing Nothing

Luo Linlang was filled with righteous indignation, but Lu Sangjiu, the person at the center of it all, didn’t say much.

She just gave a nonchalant smile. ”Our relationship with Purple Peak was already terrible, so it doesn’t matter. As long as the Sect Leader is on our side, we’re fine.”

Li Qiancheng frowned. ”That may be true, but the way Bai Heng looked at you today was very strange. You should be extra careful from now on and try to avoid being alone with anyone from Purple Peak.”

The implication was clear: they had to guard against Purple Peak’s dirty tricks.

None of them said it out loud, but they all tacitly agreed that Purple Peak was capable of such a thing. After all, Bai Heng was not an easy person to deal with.

After a moment of silence, Li Qiancheng spoke again. ”I reckon Qin Yu is in for some trouble when he gets back... In any case, he did speak a word of justice for you. I’ll go check on him later.”

Lu Sangjiu had originally held no goodwill toward Qin Yu; she had even wanted to kill him at one point.

But this time... no matter how you looked at it, he had indeed helped her.

While she still didn’t particularly like Qin Yu, her animosity and prejudice were gone. So, she nodded and replied, ”Okay, I’ll go with you then.”

The four sect siblings chatted for a while longer. Seeing it was getting late, they went their separate ways.

Lu Sangjiu had nothing better to do, so she prepared to meditate and cultivate for a bit. But before long, Chi Yan and Feng Lin came looking for her together.

Chi Yan carried a pot of fine wine, while Feng Lin held a food box filled with dishes she had cooked herself.

”Hehe, our schedule has been pretty rushed this time, so we haven’t had a chance to go into town for a drink.”

”So Feng Dao You and I talked it over and decided to bring some things over to you. This is some top-shelf wine I’ve been saving. Let’s try it together today!”

Hearing Chi Yan’s words, Lu Sangjiu smiled. ”This is great. With no one to disturb us, we can drink to our hearts’ content.”

Feng Lin had a rather cold personality and was usually quiet, which made her seem difficult to approach.

But once she considered someone a friend, she treated them with genuine sincerity.

A faint smile appeared on her face as she said, ”We won’t go home until we’re drunk.”

The three of them drank and chatted. Lu Sangjiu learned from their conversation that Chi Yan had later found his sect’s treasure, and Feng Lin had also had her own fortuitous encounter. Both had reaped great rewards.

They also exchanged Communication Talismans, promising to stay in touch and to go on adventures together in the future if the opportunity arose.

They drank until midnight before they were finally satisfied and went their separate ways.

Left by herself, Lu Sangjiu suddenly felt a wave of melancholy for some reason.

So, she grabbed another jug of wine and went to the bamboo forest outside the camp.

In the forest was a pool of water with a large boulder by its edge. Lu Sangjiu leaned against the rock, gazing at the bright moon in the sky as she drank alone.

Though it was only a short month in the Secret Realm, so much had happened.

Besides the material gains, Lu Sangjiu had also learned certain things from a few people.

Although it was only bits and pieces, she could assemble the tip of the iceberg.

’For example, what is the origin of that mysterious Qilin Sect, and why is it connected to the original me?’

’And then there’s... the Upper Realm that the Sword Immortal mentioned.’

The original novel only wrote about Ye Zhiyao and Gu Jue ascending together, but it never described anything about the Upper Realm.

It didn’t even explicitly state the identity of that Sword Immortal.

As far as Lu Sangjiu knew, no one in this realm had ascended for two thousand years. Since Lightly Arrogant True Monarch knew the Sword Immortal, he was likely a figure from a thousand years ago.

But it was an undeniable fact that no one had ascended a thousand years ago.

An Ascension would trigger a cosmic phenomenon, making it impossible to hide from everyone.

’So... how did he ascend to the Upper Realm?’

All sorts of mysteries swirled in Lu Sangjiu’s mind. She once thought she was at the pinnacle of this world, the one who saw everything most clearly.

Now, she suddenly realized she might just be a frog in a well, and everything she thought she knew was just her own assumption.

There were still so many things about this world she didn’t know, and it seemed she herself had unknowingly become entangled in these mysteries.

’Even though the Great Elder is dead, I feel like the matter with the Qilin Sect won’t end so simply... As the fisherman who reaped the benefits, I’ll probably be targeted too.’

’A storm is brewing.’

Lu Sangjiu was drinking and lost in thought while gazing at the moon when she suddenly saw a ”shooting star” streak across the sky.

The ”shooting star” then landed right beside her... It was Gu Jue, who had arrived via Sword Control.

He was dressed in blue robes today. Walking toward her under the moonlight, he gave off the air of a cold, banished immortal.

This was the first time Lu Sangjiu had drunk since her rebirth, and she had somewhat misjudged her tolerance.

After all, her cultivation was different now. Her current body couldn’t handle a thousand cups without getting drunk like her previous one.

So right now, she was feeling a bit tipsy, and her mind was slower than usual.

She squinted as she watched Gu Jue approach, only seeming to register his presence after a moment. With a hazy, drunken look in her eyes, she smiled at him. ”Mr. Gu? What a coincidence. Care for a drink?”

Gu Jue looked at her. ”It’s not a coincidence. I came looking for you.”

”Oh?” She raised an eyebrow, grinning. ”Did you come especially to drink with me? Then come and sit!”

As she spoke, she scooted over and patted the space she’d cleared. ”Hurry up! The wine will be gone soon.”

Lu Sangjiu was sitting on the large boulder. No matter how big the rock was, space was limited. It was fine for her alone, but if Gu Jue were to sit there too, they would be too close, appearing overly intimate.

So Gu Jue only glanced at the spot and didn’t move.

In his impression, Lu Sangjiu was an upright, kind, and understanding girl who was also a bit timid and shy.

Seeing her acting so different from her usual self, he couldn’t help but ask hesitantly, ”Are... are you drunk?”

Asking such a question, it was obvious he didn’t know that drunk people never admit they’re actually drunk.

Sure enough, Lu Sangjiu looked indignant. ”How could I be drunk? I can hold my liquor like a champion, you know!”

Gu Jue didn’t speak, just watched her silently as if pondering something.

Lu Sangjiu, however, grew impatient. ”Are you coming over or not? Are you drinking or not?”

Gu Jue shook his head with a hint of resignation. ”Never mind. It seems I’ve come at a bad time.”

He had thought that since the Major Sects were departing tomorrow, he would come and bother her even though it was late.

But he hadn’t expected her to be drinking... Judging by her current state, she probably wouldn’t be able to take in anything serious he said.

After a moment’s thought, he added, ”Leave me your Communication Talisman. I’ll contact you later.”

”A Communication Talisman?”

Fortunately, Lu Sangjiu wasn’t so drunk that she was completely out of it; she could still understand his words.

So she obediently took out a Communication Talisman and held it out. ”Here.”

Gu Jue took a few more steps forward and reached out to take it.

But just as his hand touched the talisman, a cunning glint flashed in Lu Sangjiu’s eyes, and she suddenly grabbed his hand.

Gu Jue was startled. ”You...”

Before he could finish, Lu Sangjiu pulled him forcefully toward her.

”Hee hee, now that you’re here, you think I’ll let you run away? You have to drink with me today!”
