Clan Rise: Starting as a Grandfather

Chapter 40: Chapter 39 has someone chosen? Chapter 40: Chapter 39 has someone chosen? “Dad, Mom, I’m serious, you might as well split up the family!”

“They argue all the time, this is no solution!”

“After the split, you can stay with my second brother. Although he has a tough personality, he knows how to respect and take care of you. My second sister-in-law is reasonable but a bit fiery, luckily she knows how to look after you.”

In the Yang family, Ms. Wang seldom spoke to Yang Zhenshan, but at her parent’s home, facing her own parents, she couldn’t stop talking smoothly.

Mr. Wang sighed deeply and said, “Let’s follow our daughter’s advice and separate the family!”

His personality was rather firm, but he found it inappropriate to intervene in the affairs of the women.

He couldn’t possibly break up the fights between his daughters-in-law.

What an improper situation!

Ms. Wang’s mother wiped her tears and said nothing.

They were all still here, and very young; splitting the family now would really look bad.

But if they didn’t split, life would continue to be distressing.

“Mom, after we split up, I will support my second brother. Don’t be sad, with my help, you will definitely live a good life!”

Ms. Wang comforted, “Look what I have brought for you!”

She placed her wicker basket on the table, lifted the cloth covering it, revealing the eggs and meat inside.

Mr. Wang stood up swiftly when he saw this.

“How could you bring back so much stuff?”

“What will we do if your father-in-law finds out!”

He said somewhat panicking.

A married daughter is like spilled water, as the saying goes.

If a married daughter takes things from her husband’s family to assist her parents, it is considered despicable.

It can even tarnish her family’s reputation and affect the marriage prospects of her siblings.

No family would want to marry a daughter-in-law who steals from one home to benefit another.

“Dad, father-in-law allowed me to bring these!” Ms. Wang cheerfully replied.

She was telling the truth; Yang Zhenshan knew she was visiting Wang Family Village and allowed her to bring some things for her parents.

In Yang Zhenshan’s eyes, it was only natural for a daughter-in-law to bring gifts to her parents’ home.

However, his original intention was for Ms. Wang to bring some fabrics. Zhou Lan’s thank-you gifts included a lot of fabric, which the Yang family couldn’t use in the short term, so Yang Zhenshan thought to distribute some to relatives.

This was just a part of social exchange; Yang Zhenshan was never stingy.

But he hadn’t specified clearly, so Ms. Wang did not dare to touch the fabrics and only brought some pork and eggs.

Now, the Yang family really did not lack these.

Hearing it was agreed by Yang Zhenshan, Mr. Wang finally relaxed.

“By the way, Father-in-law is going to Chongshan Pass, he’s going to take an official position, I think it’s Trial Hundred Households!” Ms. Wang continued smiling cheerfully.

At this news, Mr. Wang was first surprised, then delighted.

His father-in-law becoming an official was a great fortune.

However, he quickly became concerned again, “You must be very respectful to your father-in-law, don’t ever anger him.”

Marriage is about matching social status.

Previously, both the Yang family and the Wang family were commoners, perfectly matched, but now with the Yang family’s rise, Mr. Wang feared they might look down on his daughter.

Ms. Wang also harbored such worries, but thinking of Yang Zhenshan’s temperament, she felt reassured.

The three of them chatted for a while longer. Ms. Wang did not forget her errand and after placing down the goods, picked up her basket to find the matchmaker, Mrs. Wang.

Mrs. Wang was a woman over fifty, with a head full of silver hair, kind facial features, dressed simply but neatly, resembling a loving grandmother.

“Auntie!”

Upon reaching Mrs. Wang’s home, Ms. Wang warmly called out to her.

“Oh, isn’t this the madam of the Yang family? Please come in, come in!” Mrs. Wang, seeing it was Ms. Wang, beamed a radiant smile.

The marriage between the Yang family and the Wang family was mediated by her, this marriage was the most commendable match of her decades-long career as a matchmaker.

Not to mention, being a daughter-in-law in the Yang family was the envy of every young woman for miles around.

Even before Yang Zhenshan crossed over, the Yang family was already a desirable matchmaker prospect, not to mention now.

As soon as they entered, the old lady immediately brought Ms. Wang a bowl of boiled water.

“Ma’am, are you here to discuss a marriage for your younger brother-in-law?”

Before Ms. Wang could respond, the old lady spoke first.

“Auntie guessed it?” Ms. Wang exclaimed in surprise.

The old lady said with a smile, “You wouldn’t know, but recently, lots of people have come to my door, all for the third son of the Yang family!”

Her words weren’t nonsense. It had been over half a year since Yang Zhenshan crossed over, and during this time, the Yang family’s life had been getting better and better, which was well-known around several neighboring villages.

Who wouldn’t want their daughter to marry into a good household, or to have a powerful in-law family?

Thus, since the beginning of the year, many people had visited, asking the old lady to propose to the Yang family on their behalf.

If it hadn’t been for the Northern barbarians invading, the old lady would have already worn out the Yang family’s doorstep.

“I have many eligible young ladies here; would you like to choose first?” The old lady seemed eager.

Now that the Yang family was thriving, if she could help arrange a marriage for them, the reward and wedding money would definitely be substantial.

She had long been looking forward to making big earnings from the Yang family.

“No, Auntie~~” Ms. Wang said somewhat awkwardly, waving her hand, “I have a suitable candidate in mind, perhaps you could learn a bit more about the situation!”

“You already have a candidate?” The old lady was taken aback.

“Yes, the young lady from the Liang Family cloth shop in the county town!” Ms. Wang said, with a blush on her cheeks.

She didn’t actually know the young lady from the Liang Family cloth shop; it wasn’t her choice but rather that of Yang Minghao.

“The young lady from the Liang Family cloth shop!” The old lady thought for a moment. She knew of the Liang Family cloth shop, but she wasn’t aware if they had any suitable girls for marriage.

The county town was not part of her business area; her territory was limited to the villages surrounding Wang Family Village.

Nevertheless, finding out about the Liang Family cloth shop wouldn’t be difficult as she had colleagues in the county town who she could inquire with.

“I recall that the owners and shopkeeper of the Liang Family cloth shop are not from Anning County,” said the old lady.

“That, I’m not very clear about either; you will need to investigate first!” Ms. Wang said.

She was just relaying what Yang Minghao had mentioned, without knowing the specifics herself.

The old lady pondered for a moment, then said, “Alright, I’ll go inquire about it!”

“Then I’ll have to trouble you, Auntie.” Ms. Wang quickly took out a purse and handed it to the old lady.

Feeling the weight of the purse, the old lady’s smile grew even brighter, “Oh, how could I accept this?”

Although she said this, she had no intention of returning the purse to Ms. Wang.

“Please take the effort, Auntie!”

Ms. Wang smiled, then got up and took her leave.

No sooner had she left, the old lady headed to the county town.

Yang Zhenshan had no idea that Yang Minghao fancied the young lady of the Liang Family cloth shop, and even if he did know, he wouldn’t have been concerned about it.

Although he was Yang Minghao’s father, arranging marriages was a matter to be handled by the matchmaker and the women in the family.

The only thing he could do was to screen the proposal before confirming the match.

As for anything else, even if he wanted to intervene, he couldn’t.

Over the next two days, Yang Zhenshan was busy with ancestor worship and preparing feasts.

Since there was a feast to prepare, he naturally needed to invite some relatives and friends.

Lu Zhou from the county town blacksmith shop, the Lu family from Qinghe Town, the Jiang family from Jiang Family Village, the Wang family from Wang Family Village, and the Li family from Li Family Village.

He was inviting all these friends and in-laws.

Besides, he also needed to hire several chefs and buy ingredients needed for the banquet.

For these matters, Yang Zhenshan was incredibly busy these two days.

That day, just as he returned from buying ingredients in the county town, he saw Yang Mingcheng walking out of the east wing looking glum, followed by Ms. Wang, her eyes slightly red.

Seeing them in such a state, Yang Zhenshan was a bit startled.

What happened to this couple?

Did they have a quarrel?
