Clan Rise: Starting as a Grandfather

Chapter 39: Chapter 38 My Father is Yang Zhenshan Chapter 39: Chapter 38 My Father is Yang Zhenshan “Alright, let’s settle the matter like this. Clan Leader, you should take care of the silver first. The rest of the matters need to be handled by you, as I’m afraid I won’t be of any help!” Yang Zhenshan didn’t wait for any objections and decisively settled the issue.

Yang Zhengxiang and the others exchanged glances, smiling as they said: “Then we will accept this task on behalf of the clanspeople. Rest assured, every bit of this silver will be used for the benefit of the clanspeople. We won’t embezzle even a fraction of it.”

“Haha, I believe you!” Yang Zhenshan laughed.

He still trusted Yang Zhengxiang’s character.

By the time he returned from Yang Zhengxiang’s home, it was already noon; the meal at home was ready, and the family joyfully gathered for lunch.

In the afternoon, Ms. Wang took a wicker basket and headed over to the neighboring Wang Family Village.

The matchmaker she mentioned to Yang Zhenshan before was from Wang Family Village, where her home village was also located. It was a perfect opportunity to also visit her maternal home.

The Wang family had three sons and one daughter; the daughter was Ms. Wang, and like the Yang family, they all lived together as a big family.

Upon arriving in Wang Family Village, Ms. Wang saw a large crowd gathered in front of her maternal home.

There were even bursts of quarreling voices coming from the courtyard.

Shrews cursing in the street, spewing whatever foul language they could!

Ms. Wang didn’t need to look to know the state of her family home.

With a sigh of resignation, she did not go forward but silently stood by the wall, waiting.

This was the state of her family home, with three sisters-in-law quarreling every day, and her own mother, being timid by nature, unable to control her daughters-in-law.

Compared to her maternal home, she preferred her marital home.

Although her predecessor was a tough-minded person, she always had a clear head. Besides being a bit assertive in her actions, she never mistreated the daughters-in-law.

After the predecessor’s wife passed away, Ms. Wang suddenly had to take over the household affairs of the large family, which was in disarray for a long time. Fortunately, the predecessor was indifferent to everything and never made life difficult for Ms. Wang.

Later, when Yang Zhenshan arrived, life at home gradually improved, and Ms. Wang’s own life became smoother. Although she was busy every day and Yang Zhenshan forced her to practice martial arts, Ms. Wang actually found joy in it.

While listening to the continuous quarreling from her family’s courtyard, Ms. Wang couldn’t help but think of her mother-in-law.

If her mother-in-law was her birth mother, she would never tolerate such daily quarrels amongst the sisters-in-law.

Thinking of her mother-in-law, anger welled up in Ms. Wang’s heart.

She suddenly stood up, “Make way, make way!”

Pushing through the onlookers, Ms. Wang squeezed into her family’s home.

Indeed, the yard was in complete chaos – not only were the three sisters-in-law quarreling, but several nephews and nieces were also fighting all over the place.

Meanwhile, her father and mother stood in front of the main hall, red-faced with fury.

As for her three brothers, they were standing in the courtyard with embarrassed expressions, looking like they wanted to intervene but didn’t know how.

Seeing this, Ms. Wang felt a fierce anger rising within her.

She knew all too well why her family home was in such a state.

It was all because of poverty.

Although the Yang family had twenty acres of farmland and lived a meager life, at least they didn’t starve.

The Wang family, on the other hand, had only ten acres of farmland, which was not enough to support such a large family.

To have enough to eat, it was natural for each household to compete.

Failure to fight meant going hungry, and going hungry was one thing but to let the children starve was another.

Under such circumstances, even the kindest of women would turn into shrews – they had to be aggressive.

“Silence, all of you!” Ms. Wang ran into the courtyard and shouted with the loudest voice she had ever used.

Her shout was like a thunderclap, instantly quieting down the courtyard. It wasn’t just the courtyard; even the onlookers outside clamped their mouths shut.

Everyone stared at Ms. Wang in amazement. Her chubby face was flushed with anger, and her round eyes shone exceptionally bright.

After all, Ms. Wang was just a twenty-year-old girl with a somewhat gentle nature. She always spoke softly and gently, so to see her yell angrily like today was unheard of, not only to strangers but even to her parents.

“Yaya, why are you back?” Ms. Wang’s mother was first astonished, then somewhat flustered, she asked.

At that moment, Ms. Wang, watched by everyone, felt somewhat timid and the fierce anger that had surged up just before dissipated without trace, her heart felt like it was filled with ten thousand frolicking deer.

She opened her mouth, not knowing what to say.

“Ah, the girl is back!”

At this moment, the eldest sister-in-law of the Wang family spoke up.

Despite the fierce quarreling just now, in the blink of an eye, her brash face was suddenly full of affectionate smiles; her change of expression was comparable to the face-changing act in Sichuan opera.

“Shut up!”

Hearing her sister-in-law’s words, Ms. Wang’s internal rage surfaced again.

If anyone in this family was the most annoying, it would undoubtedly be her eldest sister-in-law.

This woman had a penchant for belittling others, her words always seemed to carry thorns, and she loved gossiping and stirring up trouble everywhere.

Without the demeanor of an elder sister-in-law, she even instigated discord among the sisters-in-law.

Her eldest sister-in-law bore a great deal of the responsibility for the family becoming what it was.

Scolded by Ms. Wang, the eldest sister-in-law’s complexion kept changing, now green, now white.

She was about to curse out loud, but seeing the angry eyes of Ms. Wang, she swallowed the words at her lips.

Seeing that she finally calmed down, Ms. Wang quickly stepped forward to support her own mother, saying, “Dad, Mom, it’s unbearable with constant quarreling, how can we live like this?”

Ms. Wang was also resolute, “You can follow my second brother, not the eldest!”

Saying this, she glared fiercely at her own elder brother.

If Yang Mingcheng, the eldest of the Yang family, was honest and down-to-earth, then Wang Dalang was a dull and silent sort, the type who could not produce a sound even when kicked.

Not to mention having no opinions of his own, he couldn’t even control his own wife, allowing her to make trouble at home all day long.

“How can this be done? One should not split the family while the parents are still around!” Wang Dalang finally spoke up.

“Then divorce your eldest sister-in-law!” Ms. Wang fiercely glared at her own eldest sister-in-law again.

Upon hearing this, the eldest sister-in-law of the Wang family immediately became nervous.

“You, what right do you have to speak here? A married daughter is like spilled water, you little harlot, don’t talk nonsense here!” she cursed angrily.

“You dare call me a harlot, do you know who my father-in-law is? My father-in-law is Yang Zhenshan, my husband is Yang Mingcheng! And you still dare to curse me?”

“Just wait, I’m going to have my husband send you back to your mother’s home!”

Ms. Wang was truly angered.

It’s said that a woman’s family is her backbone after marriage.

But for her, it was the other way around; her confidence came from her husband’s family.

With a formidable father-in-law and a martial artist husband, she strutted around not just her own family, but even around the surrounding villages and towns.

Saying this, Ms. Wang was about to head outside.

The eldest sister-in-law of the Wang family panicked at once, “Yaya, no, I mean, little sister-in-law, I was wrong, look at this foul mouth of mine, it deserves to be beaten, beaten!”

She said pleadingly, continuously slapping her own mouth.

“Yaya!”

Ms. Wang’s mother also hurriedly pulled on Ms. Wang.

Nowadays, the fame of Yang Zhenshan had spread throughout much of Anning County, his feats of defeating mountain bandits and fighting northern barbarians added to the renown of Yang Zhenshan and Yang Family Village.

Besides, it’s not good to air one’s dirty linen in public. If this matter were to reach the Yang Family Village, their Wang family would likely lose all face.

Ms. Wang in her anger had overreacted; being pulled by her mother, she came back to her senses.

She wasn’t afraid of the Wang family losing face; she was afraid of shaming herself in front of Yang Zhenshan.

She had great respect for her father-in-law and feared leaving a bad impression on him.

“Dad, Mom, let’s talk inside the house!”

Ms. Wang, not wanting to deal with her sisters-in-law, pulled her parents into the hall.

Seated in the hall, her parents were still not at ease, peering into the yard. However, due to Ms. Wang’s outburst, the household finally quieted down.

The sisters-in-law looked at each other with dislike, all with sullen faces and not willing to speak, but they pricked up their ears, listening to the commotion inside the hall.
