Divine Level Witch Doctor

SMACK!

The more he thought about it, the angrier and more furious Zhao Dezhu became, a trace of fear and regret even beginning to bubble up inside him. He suddenly spun around and hurled his phone at a clan member behind him. The man instinctively ducked. The phone grazed the top of his head before smashing hard against the wall, instantly shattering into pieces.

Before the clan member could even process what had happened, Zhao Dezhu was on his feet, standing before him and cursing. ”What kind of job did you do? How did you investigate Zhao Yuan? Didn’t you say he was just some poor kid from a remote mountain village with no background? Then why would Ma Guotao defy me to back him? Why did even that would-be Witch Doctor jump out to so fervently champion him?”

This clan member was the very person who had been responsible for investigating Zhao Yuan’s background.

After hearing Zhao Dezhu’s words, the man was completely stunned. ”How could this be? It doesn’t make sense! According to the information we gathered, he really is just a poor kid with no background…”

”You still have the nerve to say that!”

Zhao Dezhu raised his hand and slapped the clan member across the face, making him see stars.

”Useless trash! My plan failed all because of your incompetence. If our Jinling Zhao Family loses face over this, I’ll be sure to punish you according to family law!”

Hearing this threat, the clan member’s face turned deathly pale. He didn’t dare to talk back and could only complain in his heart: ’This was clearly started by you and your daughter. Now that things are going south, you’re blaming it on me. There’s no fucking justice in this world!’

Zhao Jingrou walked over and tried to comfort him. ”Dad, don’t be angry. Don’t we still have one more move?”

Zhao Dezhu sighed and shook his head. ”My third move was meant to amplify our influence and expand our victory. But now that the first two moves have failed, this third one probably won’t be of any use.”

Zhao Jingrou didn’t think so. ”That’s not necessarily true. What the media does best is clutch at straws and exaggerate the facts, isn’t it? If they report on it and hype it up, this whole affair could become common knowledge. When that happens, even if West Hua Medical University and that would-be Witch Doctor support him, the common people will still see him as a fraud. I refuse to believe they can hold out under that kind of immense public pressure!”

”Hmm.” Zhao Dezhu nodded. ”I suppose that’s our only hope now. Otherwise, our Jinling Zhao Family might end up trying to steal a chicken only to lose the rice, completely losing face! I’ll call the heads of those media outlets right now and have them slant the reports in our favor, maybe slip in some of our own material.”

With that, Zhao Dezhu took out his phone and called the media heads he had contacted, promising them significant benefits. While this pained him, it also made him loathe Zhao Yuan even more.

For a narrow-minded person like Zhao Dezhu, whenever he made a mistake or suffered a loss, he would never look for the cause within himself, but would only ever blame others.

Meanwhile, at West Hua Medical University.

Led by Chen Qiang, Zhao Yuan arrived at Ma Guotao’s office.

When he saw Yu Ke, Qiu Haogu, Director Ma, and the others inside the office, he was stunned at first. Then, he realized why they were all there and couldn’t help but feel deeply moved.

It was Ma Guotao’s first time meeting Zhao Yuan. After looking him up and down for a few moments, he declared, ”Student Zhao Yuan, I’m now fully aware of the situation regarding the slander against you. Rest assured, the university will always be your staunchest supporter! No matter who tries to slander or frame you, the university will not stand for it!”

Zhao Yuan was taken aback.

’Weren’t they going to expel me? How did they become my staunchest supporter in the blink of an eye?’

Zhao Yuan turned his head to look at the teachers and professors crowded both inside and outside the office, feeling incredibly grateful. He figured it must have been them who had defended him and pleaded his case, convincing the university to change its mind and believe him.

He was only half right.

While Yu Ke, Qiu Haogu, and the others had played a significant role, the post he had made on the school’s forum had been just as impactful.

”Thank you, Principal Ma, and thank you to all the teachers.” Zhao Yuan bowed to everyone.

Ma Guotao reached out, took him by the arm, and said, ”Student Zhao Yuan, regarding the Jinling Zhao Family’s accusation that you impersonated them to commit fraud, do you have any proof? The Jinling Zhao Family holds a considerable position and influence in the medical world. Without concrete evidence, your word alone probably won’t be enough to do anything to them.”

Zhao Yuan replied, ”I don’t have evidence, but I have a witness.”

”Who?”

”Wang Jiasen!”

”Excellent!” Ma Guotao was overjoyed. A moment ago, he had been worried that if the witness wasn’t influential enough, no one would believe them, and they’d still be powerless against the Jinling Zhao Family. He never expected the witness to be Wang Jiasen.

Wang Jiasen’s reputation and status in the medical world were no lower than Zhao Dezhu’s. Moreover, Wang Jiasen also came from a medical Noble Family, and his family’s power was not much weaker than the Jinling Zhao Family’s. With such a powerful witness, combined with the full backing of West Hua Medical University, they could surely knock out one of the Jinling Zhao Family’s teeth and make them take a major fall!

”I’ll call Old Wang right now. No matter what, I have to convince him to come forward and testify for you!” Ma Guotao took out his phone, ready to call Wang Jiasen.

”There’s no need to trouble yourself,” Zhao Yuan said with a smile. ”I already called him on my way here, explained the situation, and he agreed to testify for me. He’s on his way to the university now.”

Ma Guotao was very surprised.

To be honest, even he wasn’t confident he could persuade Wang Jiasen to testify for Zhao Yuan. This was because it would mean that Wang Jiasen, and the family behind him, would be taking a stand against the Jinling Zhao Family!

Ma Guotao was very curious. How exactly had Zhao Yuan convinced Wang Jiasen? Was it really as simple as a single phone call?

Little did he know that Zhao Yuan possessed a newly punctuated and translated copy of the *Wushan Medical Tales*. That medical text alone was enough to make Wang Jiasen and his family take the risk. Besides, the Jinling Zhao Family was in the wrong this time. Standing on the moral high ground, there was no way they could lose!

Before long, Wang Jiasen arrived at West Hua Medical University. But at that moment, a group of uninvited guests also appeared.

The secretary, Chen Qiang, rushed into the office and said, ”Principal, a group of reporters has come to the university! They say they want to interview Student Zhao Yuan about impersonating the Jinling Zhao Family to commit fraud!”

”How did this get to the reporters?” Ma Guotao was stunned.

”Zhao Dezhu must have invited them!” Wang Jiasen, who knew Zhao Dezhu relatively well, said in a low voice. ”He’s planning to use public opinion to completely ruin Student Zhao Yuan’s reputation!”
