I Married the President

Chapter 605: Chapter 605: Not Daring to Admire His Peerless Beauty

Claire Sinclair felt deeply unsettled. Ivy Tanner was smart and decisive, able to quickly figure out her next move.

All she wanted was to live. Such a simple yet powerful will to survive.

’It’s all that bastard Ethan Kingsley’s fault. He’s so detestable!’

But what was the use of complaining? Claire Sinclair had to agree with Ivy’s analysis.

If word of this got to Ethan Kingsley, the best-case scenario would be Ivy Tanner being forced to have an abortion and then being kept at The Golden Brocade Palace like a dog. But that was unlikely, because Ivy was no longer a harmless obstacle, but a major problem.

Once the scandal of him getting a mentally challenged woman pregnant was exposed, his election campaign would be all but over.

The worst-case scenario was that she would be killed—either by Ethan Kingsley or by Corinne Linden.

Corinne Linden would never tolerate her fiancé having another woman, let alone one who had carried his child. No woman would stand for that.

Either outcome would be a death sentence for Ivy.

Claire Sinclair couldn’t get too involved in their conflict, or she would inevitably drag Mr. Quincy into it. The only solution was to grant Ivy’s request.

After weighing her options, Claire Sinclair could only agree. ”Okay, I’ll help you.”

Ivy was still a little worried. ”Can you really promise that no one else will find out I’m pregnant?”

Claire Sinclair nodded. ”Don’t worry. I promise.”

Ivy finally breathed a sigh of relief. ”I’ll go back and wait for your answer, then. In the meantime, I’ll work hard at learning to paint. I’ll just say it’s an assignment you gave me.”

”Okay. I’ll come find you as soon as I have news.”

”Okay.” Ivy nodded. ’I hope everything goes smoothly.’

After taking Ivy back to The Golden Brocade Palace, Claire Sinclair went home.

Ivy was walking alone in the courtyard when, out of the corner of her eye, she saw that the seeds she had planted had sprouted. Her heart gave an unwarranted lurch, and she hurried over to squat beside the patch of new seedlings.

’I wonder what kind of flowers these are,’ she thought. ’I can’t wait to see them grow and bloom... I just don’t know if I’ll ever get the chance.’

’Oh, well. First, I’ll pull out the weeds so they don’t compete with my Flora for nutrients.’

Ivy began pulling weeds, gradually becoming so absorbed in the task that she didn’t even notice someone had entered the courtyard until she heard footsteps approaching from behind.

Ivy frowned slightly but didn’t turn around, pretending she hadn’t heard a thing.

Ethan Kingsley walked to her side and squatted down, his gaze falling naturally on her small, soil-covered hands. ”Little Cutie, what are you doing?”

”Sister Claire taught me how to garden. I’m pulling weeds!”

”So you know how to weed.” Ethan Kingsley was a little surprised. Seeing her innocent, guileless face, his mood lightened.

Ivy nodded obediently. ”Sister Claire taught me. I’m very smart!”

”Yes, you are very smart. Have you eaten?”

”Huh?” Ivy tilted her head. Her stomach really was rumbling.

”Come on, get up. I’ll stay and eat with you today.” With that, Ethan stood up and turned to walk back.

Ivy tried to get up, but her legs were numb from squatting for so long. The moment she stood, she pitched forward and fell to the ground.

Hearing the thud, Ethan Kingsley whipped around. His brow furrowed as he hurried back and helped her up, a knot of tension in his chest. ”Are you hurt?”

Ivy bit her lip, her eyes welling with tears. She pouted and mumbled, ”My legs are numb.”

”I’ll carry you inside,” the man said, scooping her up into his arms.

Ivy stared blankly at his profile. She didn’t dare admire his handsome features; her heart was already a desolate wasteland.
