Transmigration: The Evil Mother-In-Law Is Actually Innocent!

Chapter 1399: Chapter 1399: Leaving the Capital

Huaizhou, Chang Zhong and others could hardly wait to disembark from the carriage, Xue Han cautioned, ”Take it slow.”

Wu Ming, upon seeing Chang Zhong, approached with a smile. He genuinely missed Chang Zhong; the boy had lived with the Wu family for so long that he was no different to Wu Ming than a blood brother. He embraced Chang Zhong, ”You’ve grown taller and more robust.”

Chang Zhong gave Wu Ming a big hug, ”I’ve grown up, indeed.”

Wu Ming waited for Prince Qin to dismount and greeted him, ”This servant pays respect to His Highness Prince Qin.”

Rongchuan helped Wu Ming up, ”There’s no need for such formalities.”

Wu Ming extended his hand, ”Please, Your Highness, come inside.”

”Alright.”

Rongchuan turned back upon seeing his wife and Lady Song approaching, and then he entered the residence with Chang Zhong.

Rongchuan looked around at the residence, ”The house is very elegant, and the scenery is pleasant.”

Wu Ming, leading Chang Zhong by the hand, ”I bought it initially because of the scenic view. Your Highness must be exhausted from your journey; let me show you to rest first.”

Rongchuan replied, ”We traveled slowly and without hardship. We will rest for today and resume our journey tomorrow. When I return, I will pick up Chang Zhong; please keep a close eye on him.”

Wu Ming ruffled Chang Zhong’s hair, ”Rest assured, Your Highness, I have many lessons to quiz him on; he won’t have the chance to roam about.”

Chang Zhong puffed out his little chest, unafraid of the challenge, ”I haven’t fallen behind on my studies in the capital.”

”Good, then I’ll properly test you tomorrow.”

Chang Zhong, ”Alright.”

The next day, Zhulan personally visited the Jiang family. She had been constantly worried about her daughter, and since Ming Teng got married, her daughter’s complexion had not been good either.

Upon entering her daughter’s courtyard, Zhulan smelled the scent of medicine and sighed. A mother always worries about her sons; this is a true affliction. Due to the twins, Xue Mei had become quite haggard.

Xue Mei was lying down, ”Mother, why have you come?”

Zhulan gestured for Xue Mei to continue resting, ”I’m worried about you.”

Xue Mei sighed, ”I’ve made you worry. I’ve been better lately, having fewer nightmares.”

She was anxious about her two sons, constantly having nightmares. Either one son had died, or both had died. Recently, she had begun to come to terms with it, and the nightmares had lessened.

”Your father inquired with the Emperor about the twins, and the Emperor said if there’s any news about the children, he will inform your father. Now that things are settled, you should think more positively, or perhaps imagine how you’ll deal with the twins when they return.”

Xue Mei, ”Mother, it’s not just about the twins, Miumiu is also leaving in a few days, and it’s hard for me to let go.”

Zhulan understood. Miumiu was getting married and would have to follow her husband. Wherever Mu Fan was, so would be Miumiu. The same held for Yushuang, who would have to go with Liufeng. When they could return to the capital was uncertain as it was difficult to travel to the capital.

The transportation in ancient times was too inconvenient, and it was too hard for a married daughter to return home.

Zhulan stayed with her daughter for a while, and when Jiang Sheng came back, she left. This year, Xue Mei and her husband wouldn’t go anywhere.

At Liufeng’s home, Mrs. Zhao helped her daughter check the luggage, ”Bring more warm clothes, you have too few.”

Yushuang looked at the two trunks of warm clothing, ”Mother, I’ve already packed more than enough, and I can buy more if needed.”

Mrs. Zhao pondered for a moment, ”Then bring a few more furs.”

Yushuang was troubled, ”Mother, we’ve already got too much luggage.”

The things her mother-in-law asked her to bring, what her mother sent, had already severely exceeded the originally planned space.

Mrs. Zhao sat down without a word, her eyes reddening, ”You are going to Zhangzhou, and it’s uncertain where Liufeng will be reassigned to in the future. It wouldn’t be an issue if it were close to the capital, but if it’s a distant place, your mother might not see you for years.”

What could Yushuang do, ”I’ll bring them all, I’ll carry everything.”

Mrs. Zhao wasn’t pretending; she was truly upset, ”Take good care of yourself when you’re in a foreign land. Write to your father if you encounter any difficulties. If he can’t deal with it, there’s still your grandfather. Don’t put up with any mistreatment; our family has the means now.”

Yushuang’s eyes reddened, too. She hugged her mother, ”Mother, I will take good care of myself. I won’t bring disgrace to the Zhou family when I’m away from home. You and father can rest assured, I won’t be wronged.”

Mrs. Zhao wiped her eyes, ”When your father saves up some holiday time, we will come to see you.”

”Good, and when Babe grows up a bit, your daughter will also come back to visit you and father often.”

Mrs. Zhao felt much relieved, taking out several silver notes from her purse, ”This is for you, don’t scrimp when you’re in Zhangzhou Province.”

Yushuang saw they were all large denomination silver notes, each worth five hundred taels, a total of two thousand taels. She hurriedly refused, ”Mother, you’ve already prepared so much for me, I absolutely cannot take this silver. Mother, we have silver, I cannot take yours.”

Her dowry was already quite generous. The Gu family might not be very rich, but they had fewer masters, and they could save quite a bit of silver in a year, so she really wasn’t in need of it.

Mrs. Zhao said, ”This is your father and my goodwill.”

Yushuang shook her head vigorously, ”No, no.”

Mrs. Zhao could only take it back, thinking to herself that she would send some things to Zhangzhou after her daughter left.

In the following days, Yushuang followed Liufeng to Zhangzhou, and then Jiang Miu and Mu Fan returned to Zhou family village.

In the capital, the Crown Prince left the city, escorted by Prince Qi, along with some sons from noble families, and Ming Rui went with them.

Having lost two children at once, Mrs. Zhao, weighed down by her thoughts, fell seriously ill.

Because Mrs. Zhao was ill, Yu Die managed the second wife’s affairs and also took care of her mother and younger brother. Yu Die visibly grew up, becoming more steady and responsible than before.

While Mrs. Zhao was comforted, she also reflected on her own tendency to worry too much, trying to cover every base, which made Yu Die too reliant on her. She pondered that after recovering from her illness, she should let go a bit.

Zhulan came to see Mrs. Zhao, ”Not bad, you look much healthier.”

”The doctor has seen me and says I’m almost fully recovered.”

Zhulan smiled, ”Yu Die has been doing well these past few days.”

”These days I owe it all to her.”

Zhulan hadn’t seen Yu Die, ”Where is Yu Die?”

”The weather is getting warmer, and Yu Die thought our flowers in the second wife’s yard were too plain. She wanted to bring back some more festive flowers, so she went to the flower shop.”

Zhulan said, ”Your illness came on suddenly, and it scared her.”

Mrs. Zhao liked plain elegance, but Yu Die thought it was bad luck,

Mrs. Zhao said, ”I concerned myself too much, and the girl found it annoying. Now she realizes how important a mother is.”

”A child with a mother is a treasure; her lively nature is all because of your indulgence.”

At the flower shop, Yu Die chose all sorts of brilliant flowers, determined to decorate the second wife’s residence joyously, and she bought so many flowers that they wouldn’t fit in the carriage.

The row of carriages attracted much attention, and many people came to see the spectacle, presuming the Zhou family was preparing for a banquet after they learned whose carriages these were.

Liu Yuanbo was out shopping today because of his frustration; he had intended to make connections with Zhou Mingrui, only to find out that Zhou Mingrui had left the capital.

The coachman said, ”Young Master, there are quite a few carriages coming our way, we need to wait for a while.”

Liu Yuanbo, preoccupied, replied, ”Okay.”

He needed to think about who from the Zhou family to connect with when he suddenly took notice of the Zhou family’s carriages, laden with flowers, and he was stunned. Why had the Zhou family bought so many flowers?

Liu Yuanbo signaled the young servant to go find out. The servant came back quickly, ”The third Miss Zhou is buying flowers to plant at home.”

Oh, that must have cost quite a bit of silver!

Liu Yuanbo clutched his purse tightly, not begrudging the expense, yes, he didn’t begrudge it.

As the Crown Prince’s travel party proceeded, the caravan did not move fast. Upon receiving the report, Prince Qi had an amused look in his eyes. It had been several days since they left the capital, and finally, someone could not help but make a move. ”Pass the order down, today we rest in Xixian County.”
