Transmigration: The Evil Mother-In-Law Is Actually Innocent!

Chapter 1388: Chapter 1388: Apology

Lady Tao’s eyes carried laughter, ”It is still you two who are filial. I manage the whole household all day and hardly anyone speaks well of me; my heart truly grows cold.”

The second wife’s people all had unnatural expressions on their faces, as lately it had been their second branch causing disturbances.

Yu Lu stepped forward, ”Grandma, don’t say that. Who in the family doesn’t remember your kindness? Second Grandma, don’t you think I’m right?”

Lady Tao was inwardly overjoyed, her daughter-in-law had never been so helpful at home, but her granddaughter-in-law was considerate.

Lady Tao saw her sister-in-law’s face turn sour, ”Enough, I’ll repeat what I said before, with the marriage between the Wen family and Luo family not coming to fruition, our Wong family will not be involved with the Wen family any longer. You don’t need to speak to me about any benefits, sister-in-law, take your daughter-in-law and Wang Hua back with you.”

Wang Hua felt indignant, tugged at her grandmother’s sleeve, but was glared at by her grandmother and quickly let go.

”Big sister-in-law, have a good rest, we’ll be heading back then.”

Lady Ding was unwilling but helpless; she did not dare to plead in front of the elder lady, gave Lady Zhou a glare who had been mostly silent, but today, as soon as she spoke up, she showed why the big sister-in-law valued her granddaughter-in-law.

Yu Lu saw but pretended not to, still smiling she said, ”Second Grandma, we bought quite a lot of fruits, we’ll send some over to you later.”

Lady Ding, ”.....no need, keep them for yourselves.”

Yu Lu, ”I knew Second Grandma cares for us, so I won’t send them over then.”

Wong Wei’s eyes grew more amused, his daughter-in-law had really angered the second grandma.

Wang Hua, biting her lip, followed behind her mother, suddenly came over, and grabbed Yu Lu’s hand.

Yu Lu was startled, ”Big Sister, what are you doing?”

Wang Hua, ”Big Sister-in-law, you have a kind heart, please help me.”

Yu Lu was speechless, she didn’t think she was kind-hearted at all?

Lady Tao saw Wang Hua pulling too hard, making her granddaughter-in-law’s hand somewhat red, ”Let go.”

Wang Hua instead gripped tighter, and in this tug of war, Yu Lu’s stomach felt uncomfortable, Wong Wei’s face darkened as he protected his wife and pushed away Wang Hua’s hand, ”Where are your manners!”

Wang Hua saw the big sister-in-law clutching her stomach, not to mention Wang Hua being scared pale, Lady Ding was also terrified, she slapped her granddaughter’s back fiercely, ”I’ll beat you to death, you troublesome girl.”

Lady Tao’s heart thumped, her eyes focused on Yu Lu, ”How do you feel?”

Yu Lu was already feeling much better, ”Grandma, it’s nothing.”

Lady Tao was not reassured, called for a servant to fetch the doctor, Wong Wei’s face also turned pale, kept asking, ”If there’s any discomfort, just speak up, don’t endure it silently.”

Yu Lu carefully assessed herself, indeed feeling no discomfort, ”Mm, I’ll just sit for a bit.”

Wong Wei carefully supported his wife, Lady Tao, seeing her granddaughter-in-law indeed had no serious issues, finally put her heart back in her stomach. With a cold face, she glared at Wang Hua, ”Sister-in-law, how you indulge Wang Hua is a matter for your second branch, it’s not my place to interject, but recently, I have been very disappointed in Wang Hua. If Wang Hua does not understand her mistakes, do you truly not understand? To actually indulge Wang Hua and join in her antics, I will make things clear to mother, and from this point on, I will not interfere with Wang Hua’s marriage affairs.”

Lady Ding was now scared; she understood, how could she not understand, but she couldn’t let go of the huge benefit it would be for the second branch if her granddaughter could marry Wen Rong, belonging to the empress’s maternal family.

Lady Tao was not willing to listen to anything her sister-in-law had to say, waved her hand to signal them to leave.

Two days later, Zhulan’s spirits gradually improved, having come to terms with her situation herself. Worrying now was useless. Zhulan took out the letters her son had sent back home, that naughty boy had been having a blast on his journey, Rongchuan, and Xue Han spoiling him rotten, and they had visited many places along the way.

Zhulan packed her son’s letters into a box one by one, just as she finished, Lady Zhao returned with a face full of smiles.

Zhulan, ”Is there good news?”

Lady Zhao shook her head, ”I went to see Sir Liu’s wife today at the Liu family.”

”That’s quite a coincidence.”

Lady Zhao sighed, ”Now everyone says our family’s girls bring prosperity to their husbands, Sir Liu’s wife today avoided me, wouldn’t even look me in the eye!”

”Sir Liu’s son must have gotten engaged.”

”Hmm, the engagement is already settled.”

Zhulan is not interested in Mr. Chang’s wife but is more concerned, ”How did you feel visiting Sir Liu’s residence today?”

Lady Zhao is extremely satisfied, ”Sir Liu only spoke the truth. Today Lady Gu showed me around the house, where she has the final say. I also saw Lady Gu’s eldest daughter-in-law. Lady Gu gets along quite well with her.”

Most importantly, none of the women in the backyard of Lady Gu’s eldest son was chosen by Lady Gu herself.

Zhulan is reassured, ”The fact that Lady Gu gets along well with her eldest daughter-in-law shows that she is a reasonable and good mother-in-law.”

”Yes, her eldest daughter-in-law is very close to her.”

She observed carefully; the affectionate demeanor cannot be faked.

In the Palace, Lin Xi had never seen the palace maid before her and stood still, ”Which palace are you from?”

The palace maid lowered her head, ”I am from Consort Wang’s palace. Zhaoyi Consort is just up ahead, please, Commandery Princess.”

Lin Xi did not move, she knew Consort Wang; the empress dowager had said that Consort Wang was sensible. Since she is sensible, she would not have someone block her way.

Lin Xi is wary in her heart, the empress dowager has taught her much which she remembers it by heart. She doesn’t want to be dragged into the battles of the harem. She steps back, ”Uncle Emperor is waiting for me, you go back and tell your Zhaoyi Consort, I will visit her palace myself when I return.”

The palace maid became anxious, ”Our mistress is just up ahead; it won’t delay the Commandery Princess from seeing the Emperor.”

Lin Xi’s expression turned cold, ”How daring, are you asking the Emperor to wait for me?”

The palace maid knelt down instantly, ”This servant wouldn’t dare.”

Lin Xi didn’t even glance at the kneeling maid as she walked toward the government hall with her entourage. Only when they couldn’t hear footsteps anymore did the palace maid raise her head and quickly left, biting her lip.

Lin Xi doesn’t walk fast, she lied; Uncle Emperor didn’t wish to see her, her head is bowed, eyebrows furrowed deeply.

”Ouch!”

Lin Xi, clutching her forehead, looks up, ”Crown Prince brother.”

She had bumped into Crown Prince brother.

The Crown Prince looks at Lin Xi, amused, ”What are you thinking about that you aren’t even watching where you’re going?”

Lin Xi lowers her head.

The Crown Prince asks upon seeing this, ”Who has wronged you? Tell your Crown Prince brother, and I’ll stand up for you.”

Lin Xi shakes her head, ”No one has wronged me, I told a lie.”

The Crown Prince turns to the accompanying palace maids, and the two maids kneel down and recount the incident. The Crown Prince takes Lin Xi’s hand, ”Brother will take you to see Father Emperor; then Lin Xi hasn’t told a lie.”

Lin Xi’s little face turns red, ”It is wrong for me to lie. I should not have lied using Uncle Emperor’s name; I will go and admit my guilt.”

The Crown Prince laughs heartily, ”Lin Xi is really adorable.”

Lin Xi’s face grows even redder, regretting that she only thought of Uncle Emperor at that moment when she should have mentioned the empress dowager instead.

Eunuch Zhang is startled to see the Crown Prince and Commandery Princess Lin Xi, and hurriedly greets them, ”I pay my respects to the Crown Prince, and to the Commandery Princess.”

Lin Xi is familiar with Eunuch Zhang, having often accompanied her imperial grandfather, ”Hello, Eunuch Zhang.”

Eunuch Zhang knows well how much the little Commandery Princess is doted on, ”The Emperor will surely be delighted to know that the Commandery Princess has come.”

Lin Xi’s face turns even redder, her head lowered even more.

The Emperor understands Lin Xi’s intention upon arriving; seeing the young girl kneeling to confess, he feels a twinge of heartache. He orders the Crown Prince to escort Lin Xi back, the Emperor’s face almost frosting over.
