Transmigration: The Evil Mother-In-Law Is Actually Innocent!

Chapter 1394: Chapter 1394: Being a Woman Is Not Easy

In Mingyun’s courtyard, Zhulan entered the yard where the maids and old women were busily going about their tasks in an orderly fashion, and Zhulan nodded in satisfaction—Lady Li no longer required her worry.

Lady Li stood up, ”Mother, you’re here.”

”Hmm, how are Wanwan and the child doing?”

Lady Li nodded, ”I just came out of the delivery room, both the adult and child are doing well.”

Zhulan sat down, ”That’s good.”

Lady Li gestured for her sister-in-law to sit as well, smiling as she said, ”This is already the second child, Wanwan has her own experience, and the baby is in the right position, so I expect the birth will happen this afternoon.”

Zhao’s family continued the conversation, ”In the blink of an eye, Mingyun now has two children.”

Lady Li also felt sentimental and thought of Ming Teng, ”Once Wanwan’s child is born, I can concentrate on preparing for Ming Teng’s wedding.”

Zhao’s family felt envious, Ming Rui’s wedding was still a few years away.

Zhulan, ”Starting a family and establishing oneself, Ming Teng will be more steady after getting married.”

Zhao’s family laughed, ”That’s realizing he has to provide for his own little family now.”

At the Lau family, Mrs. Lau looked at her daughter’s bridal dress with eyes full of amazement, ”It’s so beautiful.”

Lau Jia moved her fingers, which bore numerous needle pricks from sewing the bridal gown; they still hurt despite being medicated, but seeing her own wedding dress made it all worth it.

Ning Ting also touched the wedding dress for the first time, reaching out and saying, ”Sister has really skilful hands, your wedding dress is even prettier than mine.”

Lau Jia was somewhat embarrassed by the praise, ”It’s not as good as my sister-in-law says.”

Ning Ting said, ”I’m not lying to you, your wedding dress is very beautiful.”

Lau Jia had not shown her sister-in-law the dress before as she wanted it to be perfect before revealing it; now that she had affirmation, Lau Jia’s fingertips didn’t hurt at all.

Mrs. Lau, however, felt heartache for her daughter, who cared deeply about her wedding; she did not want to embarrass Ming Teng and had strict demands on herself. If her daughter had chosen someone from a family of equal status, she wouldn’t have had to work so hard.

Mrs. Lau took her daughter’s hand, ”Mother really doesn’t want to let you go.”

Lau Jia held her mother’s hand, ”Mother, I will be in the capital too, and I will often come back to visit you.”

Mrs. Lau felt a little sorrowful, once her daughter was married, she’d belong to another family; it wouldn’t be as comfortable as staying at her maiden home. Although Lady Li was easy to get along with, all the branches of the Zhou family lived together, and her daughter had an outstanding sister-in-law above her, so her future life wouldn’t be easy.

When Mrs. Lau thought about how the Zhou family didn’t have any concubines, she felt happy again—it was a mix of sadness and happiness that left Mrs. Lau feeling mentally exhausted and out of spirits, ”I’m tired, you should also rest well.”

Lau Jia indeed needed to rest well as she had not been resting properly because of the bridal dress, ”Hmm.”

That afternoon, before the time to leave the government office had come, Mingyun’s eldest son was born. The little guy’s cries were especially loud and cheerful to the ear.

Zhulan held the nearly six-pound chubby baby boy, ”Look how much he resembles Mingyun.”

Lady Li’s heart melted. It was as if she was taken back to when her own first child was born; the emotions of a first-time mother are the deepest. She said in a gentle voice, ”He looks exactly as if he was cast from the same mold.”

Zhao’s family commented, ”Look at that forehead. Just as big. This child will definitely be as smart as Mingyun.”

Lady Li chuckled in delight, ”Mhm.”

Su Xuan examined the child carefully, noting that only the ears resembled Ran Wan; the child truly looked like Mingyun.

In the delivery room, Ran Wan was in good spirits. She had been cleaned up and still had the energy to sit up. The sounds from outside brought her an extraordinary sense of security. It wasn’t that she disliked daughters, but she needed a son. Now that she had a son, the pressure on her was gone. She wouldn’t have to worry about the future births.

Ran Wan smiled with the corners of her mouth; now with both a son and a daughter, she could finally live a relaxed life.

Zhou Shuren came back first; after all, Zhou Shuren was the most punctual in leaving the government office. Chang Yi and the others sometimes had to finish their tasks first.

Zhou Shuren made a special trip to see his eldest grandson and held him before returning to the main courtyard with his wife.

Zhulan, ”What are you thinking about? You haven’t said a word.”

”I’m just reflecting on how young we are, yet we’ve already welcomed the birth of great-grandsons.”

Zhulan spoke softly, ”We can only blame the times.”

Zhou Shuren said somberly, ”Our family is still considered fortunate.”

”Indeed.”

Zhou Shuren changed the subject, ”I need to give some thought to the name of the great-grandson.”

Zhulan is terrible at naming; she least enjoys naming, ”Then you really need to think it over carefully.”

”Mhm.”

Zhulan suddenly slapped her forehead, ”Oh, I knew I was forgetting something! I was so preoccupied with sharing the good news with the Ran family, I forgot to have someone tell Mingyun.”

”You gave me a fright; I thought it was something serious. Mingyun will be back soon enough; let it be a surprise.”

Mingyun was baffled as he got off the carriage and asked the young servant congratulating him, ”Has the child been born?”

The young servant was also taken aback, no one had informed the young master, ”Yes, born this afternoon.”

Mingyun didn’t wait for the young servant to continue, he ran toward his house; his son was born, and he had seen magpies this morning!

Chang Zhi came back to his senses and shouted, ”Take care not to fall while running.”

Mingyun waved his hand, ”Fourth Uncle, I’m off first.”

Chang Zhi shook his head smiling; it was rare to see Mingyun so flustered. He felt happy for Mingyun. With the birth of Mingyun’s son, the pressure on Mingyun would lessen slightly. Although the family hadn’t rushed Mingyun to have a son, Mingyun, being the eldest grandson, had placed considerable pressure on himself.

The next morning at the imperial court, everyone could sense Zhou Shuren’s cheerful mood. The Emperor was absent, and Qiu Yan inquired softly, ”My lord, do you have some happy news?”

Zhou Shuren nodded, ”Mhm, a great-grandson was added to our family yesterday.”

Upon hearing this, Qiu Yan’s eyes filled with even more envy; the Zhou family’s progeny was truly flourishing, ”Congratulations, my lord, on the birth of your great-grandson.”

Zhou Shuren chuckled, ”I’ll treat everyone to tea at noon.”

Qiu Yan brightened, today the lord Zhou was ready to celebrate generously.

The prosperity of one’s descendants represents the thriving of the family line; with another great-grandson added to the Zhou family so quickly, it indicates the Zhou family’s burgeoning success. If they do not mess up, they will continue to prosper.

After the morning court session, Wong Ju sidled up, ”I overheard something just now; your great-grandson has been born?”

”Yes.”

Wong Ju beamed, ”Yu Lu is also due in a few months.”

Zhou Shuren glanced sideways, ”Whether it’s a son or a daughter, it’s all up to the man.”

Wong Ju understood what Zhou Shuren was getting at, ”Whether Wong Wei has a son or a daughter, we’ll be happy.”

Wong Wei was newly married and already expecting a child; this was already an unexpected joy. Regardless of whether this child was a son or a daughter, a son would come eventually; yes, the Wong family was quite confident.

Zhou Shuren began to muse, ”Marrying and bearing children, women truly have it tough. They say that for women, marriage is like a second incarnation, and it’s not false at all. Not only must they show respect to the elders, but they also have to take care of their husbands, manage their own small households, and when they have children, it’s even harder. Women have it rough!”

Wong Ju’s eyes became somewhat complex, ”It’s been years since I’ve heard such words from your mouth.”

He counted himself among them, always comfortably taking for granted his wife’s contributions, as generations had done before.

In contrast to Zhou Shuren, Zhou Shuren always empathized with his wife, and truly, few could do as he does.
