Apocalypse Descends: I Win Effortlessly by Turning Trash into Treasure

The main reason was that these people couldn’t afford them anyway.

When he heard Perry Yates’s unhesitating refusal, the expression on the man’s face turned even uglier.

But he must have been holding back for some reason. His face had turned completely livid, and his eyes were bulging—he looked like he was a second away from pointing a finger in her face and screaming curses. Yet, even so, he forced himself to swallow his anger.

He snorted coldly and turned his head away, adopting a clear ”out of sight, out of mind” attitude.

Soon, Base Leader Austin Sawyer had chosen the cards they wanted.

Perry Yates glanced at the remaining cards. All the two-star cards were gone, and a third of the Alien Gene Cards had been taken.

’It seems that even though these locals know how powerful the Alien Gene Cards are, they still can’t accept the physical mutations.’

However, Perry Yates hadn’t been wrong about one thing: for the people here, Alien Gene Cards offered far more combat power than Skill Cards.

Cerulea only saw a large number of High Star Cards appear in a short time because of Perry Yates’s presence. In reality, the drop rate for cards was still very low, let alone for High Star Cards.

Take this world, for example. The Xenomorph invasion had been going on for three years, yet very few people had obtained special abilities.

Although incinerating a Xenomorph’s body had a high chance of yielding a card, merging with those cards would only turn a person into a monster.

There was no one here like Perry Yates, who could turn trash into treasure.

’That’s what I think, anyway. But if I actually said it out loud, these people probably wouldn’t believe me. They’d just think I had some ulterior motive.’

Perry Yates wasn’t sure about the others, but that ”pyramid scheme leader” definitely would.

After seeing them off, Perry Yates immediately had people start processing the Xenomorph corpses.

It wasn’t free, of course. The exchange rate was the same: ten Xenomorph corpses for one Alien Gene Card.

There were more than enough Xenomorph corpses this time, so there was no need to scramble for them like before.

「The thirteenth day of the game.」

At noon that day, Perry Yates welcomed another large group of players, about fifty or so. Counting the players who had trickled in over the past few days, nearly a hundred people were now gathered inside the shield.

It had been mentioned in the game forums before that a single game instance would have a maximum of around one hundred and fifty players.

In other words, not accounting for any losses, close to two-thirds of the players had now found their way here.

「The fourteenth day of the game.」

Only three or four players followed the directions and arrived today.

After them, Perry Yates was met with a large crowd of locals who had come to trade for cards.

Fortunately, she hadn’t been idle. After incinerating all the Xenomorph corpses, she had successfully obtained several hundred Alien Cards. She then spent a little more time performing Ascension on all the Alien Cards, turning them into Alien Gene Cards.

Otherwise, with so many people showing up at once, she really might not have been able to handle it.

The main issue was that Perry Yates was truly out of Alien Cards. All she had left were two-star and even three-star cards.

She wasn’t willing to let the locals buy two-star cards at the price of Alien Cards.

As for the few from before, she’d just have to chalk it up to a moment of temporary insanity.

Fortunately, although these people had heard about Skill Cards, they quickly adjusted their expectations in the face of Perry Yates’s firm attitude.

They would take whatever Perry Yates gave them.

After all, being able to trade a pile of useless Xenomorph corpses for an Alien Gene Card that would mutate their bodies was a gain in their eyes.

As for the fact that a person could only merge with three Alien Gene Cards, opinions were divided.

Some felt that three was far from enough, while others were thankful for the three-card limit.

If the merging was unlimited, all the Alien Gene Cards would likely be monopolized, and ordinary people would never even get a chance to touch them.

After sending everyone away, the fifteenth day of the game arrived.

Today was a critical moment in the game.

At eight in the morning, a familiar mechanical voice echoed in the ears of every player.

[Fifteen days of game time have passed. Congratulations on surviving this far. You now have one opportunity to quit. Do you wish to quit?]

[Friendly Reminder: If a player quits mid-game, all gains from this game will be forfeit to the game system. Please choose carefully.]

”I’m not quitting!”

Every player inside the shield chose to refuse.

’The bar owner was carrying all of them; this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Only a fool would quit now.’

Around ten o’clock, a few more figures appeared in the distance. They looked like players.

Over the past few days, the group had nearly finished clearing out the trash inside the shield.

They didn’t just dump the cleared trash randomly; they piled it up at the edge of the shield to act as a wall. They had also arranged for people to stand guard and patrol in shifts, 24/7.

As soon as any trace of a Xenomorph was spotted, they would sound the alarm. The players who heard it would then quickly gather and work together to eliminate the creature.

This time, the player on patrol quickly spotted the two players heading their way. Before he could react, he realized something was wrong.

The two players seemed to be running for their lives. Behind them trailed a dozen or so elephant-sized ants.

Without any hesitation, the player, named Charles Chase, grabbed the identification item at his side—courtesy of Perry Yates—and began the Identification on the ant Xenomorphs while simultaneously sounding the alarm.

At the same time, all the players who heard the alarm began converging on their location.

Their faces showed not terror or anger, but excitement.

Yes, that’s right. Excitement.

They were all rubbing their hands together, eager for a fight. One could even faintly hear some players telling those next to them, ”These Xenomorphs are mine. Don’t any of you try to steal them.”

”Why should I let you have them? I didn’t even get a chance to fight the Xenomorph yesterday. It should be my turn.”

And other similar remarks could be heard.

By the time everyone had arrived, Charles Chase’s Identification results were just about ready.

Looking at the gathered players, he announced to the crowd:

”Xenomorph Titan-Ants. They have hard shells and huge mandibles. Their mandibular strength is immense—they can easily slice through diamond. They can also spit a highly corrosive formic acid from their mouths. Extremely dangerous.”

”Their weakness is water.”

When they heard the Xenomorph’s weakness was water, some people in the crowd cheered, while the rest looked disappointed.

At that moment, a middle-aged man stepped out from the crowd and addressed everyone. ”Alright, those with Water Attribute Skills, prepare for battle. The rest of you, don’t just stand there. There are more Xenomorphs this time than ever before.”
