Wen Ran spoke softly, “Mo Xiuchen, let’s go for another health check in the next couple of days.”

Mo Xiuchen’s eyes flickered slightly as he pressed his thin lips against her forehead, his voice brimming with tender pity, “There’s no rush, let’s wait until after the Spring Festival to get the examination done.”

“Mo Xiuchen, I think my body has recovered quite well already.”

Wen Ran looked eagerly at Mo Xiuchen, desperately wanting a baby.

Every time she saw the children of Zhou Lin and Li Qian, watching those two little ones grow up day by day, becoming cuter and cuter, she yearned more to have a baby with Mo Xiuchen.

“Ranran, do you really want a child that much?”

Mo Xiuchen half-squinted his eyes, a smile curling at his lips.

Wen Ran lowered her head, her gaze settling on his chest, “I like children.”

“We’ll talk about this after the Spring Festival.”

The day Fu Jingyi was laid to rest, Wen Ran still attended the funeral.

Accompanying her was Gu Kai, who had actually been the one to suggest she attend the funeral.

Since Mo Xiuchen had to attend an important meeting in the city that morning and couldn’t accompany Wen Ran, he had instructed Gu Kai to ensure not a hair on his Ranran’s head was harmed.

At the funeral, Gu Kai saw Fu Jingyi’s daughter, Bai Yiyi, but didn’t engage in conversation. Bai Yiyi also saw him, but unlike their previous unusual encounters, she merely glanced at him indifferently before shifting her gaze away.

After the funeral, as others left one after another, Wen Ran and Gu Kai stayed until the end.

Bai Yiyi’s expressions remained blank at first, even while holding Fu Jingyi’s ashes, she hadn’t cried, not until everyone had left. Then she suddenly knelt before the newly erected tombstone and looked at the man in the photo with a smile and malice, as tears uncontrollably rolled down her cheeks.

By her side, Li En saw her sorrow and his brows tightened with compassion, as he pulled her into his embrace, “Yiyi, don’t be sad, it’s not a bad thing that the teacher passed away like this.”

“I’m not sad. I just hate that he died so early,” Bai Yiyi spoke with a cold tone, denying the fact that she could feel sad for a man who had never fulfilled his duties as a father.

Hadn’t she always hated him?

A few steps behind, Gu Kai’s handsome eyebrows knitted together, disdain flashing through his narrow eyes; this woman really was prone to hugging and embracing any man. Didn’t she know that men and women should not make physical contact in public?

Moreover, this was in front of her father’s tombstone.

“Ranran, don’t you have something to say to her? Let’s talk to her and leave.”

Gu Kai’s voice interrupted the conversation at the tombstone. Startled, Bai Yiyi turned her head, then noticed that Gu Kai and Wen Ran hadn’t left yet.

Despite Gu Kai’s disdainful gaze, Bai Yiyi paused, leaning on Li En as she stood up.

Li En, eyes coldly sweeping over Gu Kai and Wen Ran, asked, “Is there something else you need?”

Ignoring the hostility in his eyes, Wen Ran stepped forward, standing in front of Bai Yiyi and spoke gently, “Miss Bai, before your father passed away, he had a few words he wanted me to relay to you.”

Bai Yiyi pursed her lips, then raised her hand to wipe the tears from her eyes and calmed herself before asking softly, “What is it?”

“Perhaps, we should go back first and then talk about it. Your current physical condition doesn’t suit being sad and shedding tears. It would be better for you not to be too distressed, Miss Bai,” Wen Ran suggested gently as she observed the tearful look in Bai Yiyi’s eyes.

She had heard from Fu Jingyi that Bai Yiyi was observing her confinement period, though she wasn’t sure how many days it had been. Still, crying during confinement was generally not good, and in this cold weather, it also wasn’t suitable for her to stay outside too long.

When Li En heard Wen Ran say this, the hostility in his eyes lessened. He glanced down at Bai Yiyi and spoke gently, “Yiyi, Miss Wen is also not dressed warmly. How about we go home first and then talk. Is that alright?”

Bai Yiyi didn’t refuse. She had no reason to self-punish herself over someone she despised. She turned back for one last deep look at the photo on the tombstone and said stiffly, “Miss Wen, you’re welcome to come to my house if you’d like.”

“Okay.”

Wen Ran softly agreed, turning her gaze to Gu Kai.

Receiving Wen Ran’s inquiring look, Gu Kai expressed indifferently, “It’s fine by me as long as we can head back for work in the afternoon.”

Bai Yiyi lowered her gaze. When she looked up at Gu Kai again, she spoke faintly, “Doctor Gu, if you’re busy, you should go ahead. Li En can take Miss Wen home.”

She didn’t want him to come to her house, unwilling to let him see her daughter.

Gu Kai narrowed his eyes, his lips curving into a cool, thin smile, “I don’t feel secure with someone else escorting Ranran. Let’s go. Staying out in the cold wind for too long isn’t good; if Ranran catches a cold, I wouldn’t be able to explain myself.”

With that, he took a few steps forward, took Wen Ran’s hand, and they headed toward their car parked nearby, not looking back to see if Li En and Bai Yiyi were following.

“Yiyi, let’s go,” Li En said. Seeing Bai Yiyi staring at Gu Kai’s retreating form, a hint of curiosity flickered in his gentle voice.

Bai Yiyi turned around, kneeling towards the tombstone and paying three deep bows before standing up and saying softly, “Let’s go!”
