Flash Marriage: He is a Wife-pampering Addict

Chapter 958: 957 unmarried mothers Chapter 958: 957 unmarried mothers Wen Ran looked at Gu Kai with amusement, his face full of surprise and still somewhat disbelief.

With a ‘ding,’ the elevator doors opened, and she stepped out alongside Gu Kai before responding, “Of course it’s true, Brother. Mo Xiuchen has a social engagement tonight, and I’m not accompanying him, so I’m going to have dinner with you and Dad. That is, of course, assuming neither you nor Dad has to work overtime.”

“I won’t work overtime. If Ranran is coming home for dinner, how could I?” Gu Kai raised his handsome eyebrows lightly, agreeing without a second thought, even if working overtime meant having to reschedule it.

Wen Ran felt a surge of warmth in her heart as she looked at his happy expression.

When she had said that she came to the hospital to find Gu Yan, Gu Kai had pressed the button for the top floor without hesitation.

Now, the siblings walked side by side toward the director’s office, with Gu Kai adding, “Let’s call Ah Jin later to see if he’s available tonight.”

“Sure!”

Wen Ran agreed cheerfully. She had been somewhat neglectful of her two brothers recently. There was no helping it; Mo Xiuchen was just too domineering.

Especially since Gu Kai and Wen Jin always provoked Mo Xiuchen with their words, which made him even less willing to let them spend time alone with Ranran.

“Ranran, did you come to see Dad because there’s something you need?” It wasn’t until they reached the office door that Gu Kai finally had a chance to ask the crucial question. Wen Ran’s eyes flickered slightly as she nodded softly, “Yes, there’s something.”

Gu Kai pushed open the door, and inside the office, Gu Yan was conducting an international long-distance call, his fluent English pleasant to the ear.

On seeing Gu Kai and Wen Ran enter together, Gu Yan showed a gentle and kind smile, waved to Wen Ran, signaling them to take a seat, and he wrapped up the call as quickly as possible.

Gu Kai had already poured water for himself and Wen Ran and sat down beside her, his handsome features wearing a warm and charming smile.

“Ranran, tell me first, what do you need to see Dad about?”

Gu Kai whispered to Wen Ran, lowering his voice, as soon as Gu Yan ended the call.

Wen Ran blinked, looked at him, and said softly, “Fu Jingyi is dead.”

“Fu Jingyi is dead?” Gu Kai was startled; the news caught him by surprise. As for Fu Jingyi, he had stopped paying attention to him a long time ago.

“Ranran, I’ve heard about the rumor incident today. I also saw Jiang Liu’s press conference; he has already clarified the misunderstanding.”

Gu Yan came around from the back of his desk, sat down in front of the sofa, and looked at Wen Ran with a gentle gaze.

Wen Ran pulled up a small smile and said, “Dad, Mo Xiuchen has already told me about it, you don’t have to worry.”

“You didn’t come straight from the company, did you?” Gu Yan caught the essence, smiling faintly.

Wen Ran nodded and said softly, “I went to see Fu Jingyi for the last time. I came from the prison hospital.”

Hearing this, Gu Yan’s smile faded, his brow furrowed slightly, and his eyes revealed a complex emotion, “Ranran, you’re saying Fu Jingyi is dead?”

“Yes, he was in the late stages of liver cancer. I found out only today.” Wen Ran paused, then added, “Dad, Fu Jingyi asked me to pass on a message. He said he has been wanting to apologize to you these past days. But he didn’t have the courage to tell you in person. He said that when he sees Mom, he’ll definitely apologize to her personally.”

Gu Yan’s expression changed, and he stayed silent, not responding to her remark.

Fu Jingyi had hated Gu Yan for many years, and Gu Yan had harbored the same hatred for Fu Jingyi. The long days spent searching for his daughter and the sleepless nights of longing after his wife, Yu Han, passed away—he had wished he could drink Fu Jingyi’s blood.

Yet, strangely enough, since Fu Jingyi had switched the bomb on Ranran’s body, saving her life, Gu Yan hadn’t hated Fu Jingyi as much.

Humans are such odd creatures.

On that day in court, when Fu Jingyi was taken away, the look he gave Gu Yan was filled with remorse. Gu Yan knew, of course, but he simply no longer wished to dwell on the grievances of the past.

“His death is probably for the best,”

Gu Yan finally uttered slowly after a long pause.

No emotion could be heard, not for lack of feeling, but rather the opposite; myriad complex emotions were intertwined. Once friends, later enemies, and now, with death, everything had lost its meaning.

“Ranran, with Fu Jingyi gone, they won’t leave his funeral arrangements to you, will they?” Gu Kai interjected, his gaze fixed steadily on Wen Ran.

Wen Ran shook her head, “He has a daughter, and even though she’s in confinement after childbirth, his students have already rushed to the prison hospital to help with his funeral.”

At this, Wen Ran turned to look at Gu Kai, “Brother, do you know? Fu Jingyi’s daughter is that young girl we ran into at the mall. We thought she was that man’s wife, but she wasn’t.”

“Is that so?”

Gu Kai’s eyes flickered, asking nonchalantly.

Wen Ran frowned, “Brother, why aren’t you surprised at all? Did you already know she was Fu Jingyi’s daughter?”

“You think I’m a god, that I would’ve known beforehand,” Gu Kai glanced at her, surprised inwardly, he asked as if it didn’t interest him, “That man seemed to treat her very well; if he’s not her husband, then what is he?”

Gu Kai gracefully picked up the water cup and took a sip.

“That man is Fu Jingyi’s student. According to Fu Jingyi, his daughter is now an unwed mother. He’s having that man investigate the person responsible for his daughter’s pregnancy and said he’d make them pay.”

“Cough…”

Gu Kai choked on the water, coughing uncomfortably.

Wen Ran raised her hand to pat Gu Kai’s back, teasing, “Brother, what’s got you so agitated? If I didn’t know any better, I’d think you knew Fu Jingyi’s daughter, or had some relation to her.”

“Nonsense, cough!”

Gu Kai glared at her, continuing to cough.

Wen Ran pouted, chuckling, “I’m not speaking nonsense; it’s just that your reaction is too odd, right, Dad?”

Gu Yan only watched his children with a smile, not joining in the conversation.

“Alright, stop patting me,” Gu Kai moved Wen Ran’s hand away and shifted aside, keeping his distance from her.

Wen Ran pursed her lips, “Fu Jingyi initially said that he’d ensure that man paid a price. Later, after I spoke to him, he asked me to call the man named Li En, instructing him to inform me once he found out the person’s identity.”

“Why did he tell you?”

Gu Kai frowned, remembering the evening from a long time ago when the next morning, he woke up to find himself in bed with a woman who had also berated him.

The voice of Wen Ran interrupted his thoughts: “I don’t know.”

“Ranran, did you just say Fu Jingyi’s daughter was bullied into pregnancy? Doesn’t she have a boyfriend or wasn’t she in a relationship?”

Gu Kai thought for a moment and then asked.

Wen Ran shook her head, “Probably not, otherwise, there’d be no need for Li En to investigate.”

“Ranran, since Fu Jingyi’s funeral is being handled by his student, will you still go when it’s time for his send-off?” Gu Kai changed the subject and asked.
