But now, the smile that lingered on MO Xiuchen’s lips and the gentleness overflowing between his brows were not feigned, but a genuine feeling of happiness from his heart.

Remembering how he had stepped in to defend Wen Ran, guilt welled up in his heart again. He really was a poor excuse for a father.

If he couldn’t Drovide his son with happiness, how could he brutallv prevent another woman from doing so?

MO Xiuchen and Wen Ran had been chatting for nearly ten minutes. They only spoke of serious matters for a few sentences, the rest of their conversation was filled with insignificant words. Yet, even if they were just chit-chatting, he didn’t want to hang up that quickly.

The atmosphere in the ward had also greatly relaxed due to the phone call.

MO Jingteng had been watching MO Xiuchen the whole time. Seeing him hang up the phone, MO Jingteng seemed to want to say something, but the door to the ward was inconveniently pushed open at that moment.

MO Zixuan appeared at the door with Zhou Lin. Seeing MO Xiuchen in the ward, he seemed a touch taken aback.

His gaze swept over him and settled on MO Jingteng lying on the sickbed. He warmly said, “Dad, I’ve brought you lunch!”

The words MO Jingteng wanted to say earlier were swallowed back due to his arrival.

With a subtle frown, the soft, tender intimacy in MO Xiuchen’s expression dispersed almost instantly, retreating back into his usual proud indifference.

When MO Zixuan and Zhou Lin entered the ward, he spoke indifferently, “If there’s nothing else, I’ll be leaving first.”

“Xiuchen, about what I said to you, please consider it carefully.”

MO Jingteng’s words were somewhat urgent, MO Xiuchen’s lips pressed into a straight, firm line.

Ignoring him, he turned and quickly strode away.

Leaving the ward, MO Xiuchen did not leave the hospital immediately but went to Gu Kai’s office instead.

Gu Kai was on the phone. Seeing him come in, he waved for him to sit down.

MO Xiuchen didn’t stand on ceremony, sat down on the sofa next to him, crossed his legs, and waited for him to finish his call.

“Xiuchen, who owes you money?”

After hanging up, Gu Kai walked over to the sofa, sat down next to MO Xiuchen, and glanced at him with a slant.

MO Xiuchen shot him a cold glance, not uttering a word.

Gu Kai shrugged indifferently, the corners of his mouth quirking up in a grin. He changed his tone and said pleasantly, “I’ll tell you some good news to cheer you up.”

MO Xiuchen narrowed his eyes sharply, his tone chilled as he asked, “Is Yuting coming back?”

Gu Kai nodded with a smile, “She has a flight tomorrow. After she gets back, she’ll be doing a nationwide speaking tour. You can rest assured; she wouldn’t have time to be around you.”

A month ago, when Shen Yuting learned that MO Xiuchen was getting married, she wanted to return, but because of her research project, she ultimately couldn’t.

MO Xiuchen remained quiet. Whether Shen Yuting came back to China or not had nothing to do with him. He had never been attracted to her, nor had he made any promises or hints to her.

Gu Kai saw his expression and sighed softly, “Xiuchen, Yuting is a bit stubborn.

If she asks you about your illness, don’t admit that you faked it before.” MO Xiuchen cast him a glance and countered, “What have I faked?”

Gu Kai choked at his words, paused for a moment before laughing off, “Alright, don’t be mad, I was just giving you a heads up. Even though Yuting has deep feelings for you, I can assure you she won’t be like Cheng Jia. You don’t need to hurt her too much. Let’s not talk about that. What did you and your father talk about for so long in the ward?”

Talking about this, MO Xiuchen’s eyes narrowed, his gaze fixing sharply on Gu Kai, “Does he have any other health issues?”

Gu Kai expressed surprise on his face, shaking his head, “What problems could there be? You clearly know about Uncle MO’s illness. My dad just told you everything.”

A flicker of thought crossed MO Xiuchen’s eyes, he calmly said, “His behavior today was a bit unusual.”

Even though he and the old man didn’t get along well and rarely spoke, MO Xiuchen still knew him fairly well after spending so many years in the company. He wasn’t the type to casually apologize to anyone.

Regarding the incident with Wen Ran, since he had made his move, he wouldn’t readily admit his mistake.

But today, he actually apologized to him and said he was willing to apologize to Wen Ran. The apologies and self-reproach in his words didn’t seem to be feigned.

Most importantly, the rush to hand over the company to him was not in line with his usual style.

He knew that if he took over the company, MO Zixuan’s position would be threatened. He even had the capacity to completely drive him out of the company.

He loved Xiao Wenqing so much, how could he not consider her feelings?

The more MO Xiuchen thought about it, the more he felt there was a problem. Therefore, he didn’t leave the hospital immediately but came to find Gu Kai.

Gu Kai stared at the pondering look on MO Xiuchen’s face and his slightly furrowed brows, asking confusedly, “What did Uncle MO say to you?”

“He wants me to take over the group now.”

MO Xiuchen answered indifferently. There was nothing to be pleased about it. The group was his, sooner or later.

However, Gu Kai looked excited. He heavily patted MO Xiuchen’s shoulder and said, “That’s a good thing. Congratulations, President Mo. Once you take up the position, the real power is in your hands. Dealing with Xiao Wenqing would be a matter of minutes.”

Xiao Wenqing had repeatedly harmed MO Xiuchen over the years, all for the sake of wealth. Now that Xiuchen was about to become president, dealing with Xiao Wenqing would undoubtedly easier.

MO Xiuchen’s lips were tightly pressed, not engaging in the conversation, not showing the slightest bit of joy on his face.

Gu Kai blinked in surprise. After a few moments of thought, he ventured, “Xiuchen, don’t be foolish. Even if you don’t care about money and power, these things could pose a great threat to you if they ended up in Xiao Wenqing’s hands.”

“Even if it’s for Wen Ran, for your future child, you can’t refuse what belongs to you.”

Unable to figure out what MO Xiuchen was thinking, Gu Kai was getting a little anxious.

Feeling the cold air radiating off of him and the stern look on his handsome face, Gu Kai considered for a moment before tentatively asking, “Did you tell your dad about Xiao Wenqing’s attempt to harm Wen Ran? Did he intend to protect Xiao Wenqing and use this as a condition to settle the matter?”

Otherwise, Gu Kai really couldn’t figure out why MO Xiuchen would have such an expression.

MO Xiuchen looked at him, meeting Gu Kai’s probing eyes. The tension in his thin lips increased a notch. He glanced at his wristwatch, stood up and said, “I have to go pick up Wen Ran from work.”

“Are you going to have lunch? Count me in.”

Gu Kai squinted his eyes, not dwelling on the previous topic, and laughed as he got up. As he spoke, he started to remove his white lab coat.

MO Xiuchen’s handsome eyebrows knit together, he said in a displeased tone, “It’s broad daylight; we don’t need a third wheel. If you are really lonely, you can find any nurse to accompany you for lunch.”

Gu Kai shot him a glare. He walked a few steps to the hanger, and hung his lab coat, then put on his casual suit. With a smug look, “That’s why I’m being a third wheel during the day. It’s not glaring.. If it’s bright at night, won’t you kill me?”
