After hitting the road, Wen Ran instructed the driver, “Drive a bit slower!”

As Gu Kai had said, the ambulance carrying Cheng Jia arrived quickly. At the first set of traffic lights, Wen Ran spotted the oncoming ambulance.

The two vehicles passed by each other.

Although the speed made it hard to see the people inside clearly, she still recognized MO Xiuchen.

After a moment’s hesitation, she asked the driver to turn back. He answered “Alright”, turned the car around, and headed towards the hospital.

Two minutes later, the ambulance stopped at the hospital entrance. The rear door opened and the medical staff Gu Kai had brought immediately stepped forward to receive Cheng Jia, who was put onto a stretcher. MO Xiuchen also got out of the ambulance, a large, glaring bloodstain on the white shirt tied around his waist.

The car Wen Ran was in didn’t follow to the hospital, but stopped several meters away on the roadside. From this distance, she could clearly see MO Xiuchen’s grave expression.

He was the only one who had come to the hospital; even his special assistant, Qin Mu, hadn’t accompanied him.

From getting out of the car to entering the hospital, it all happened in a short span of time. Soon his tall, determined figure disappeared at the entrance of the hospital.

Wen Ran pursed her lips and let her gaze fall away.

“Miss Wen, where to now?”

The driver, seeing her deep in thought in her seat, asked politely.

Managing her emotions, Wen Ran said indifferently, “Let’s go back to the company. There’s still some paperwork to look at, I’ll have to work late to finish it.

“But your arm hasn’t healed yet.”

The driver looked worryingly at her arm, primarily because Young Master Wen had instructed him to let Miss Wen rest until her injury had healed.

Wen Ran glanced at the gauze wrapped around her arm and said carelessly, “It’s alright, it’s much better these past two days. Compared to my brother, my wound is nothing.”

From the day he woke up, her brother had taken over running the company in order to lessen her burden. She could hardly use a minor wound as an excuse to rest all day.

The driver was about to start the vehicle when he heard her phone ringing. He stopped again and watched through the rearview mirror as she retrieved her phone to answer the call.

Slightly surprised, Wen Ran answered, “Hello!”

“Ranran, I hope I’m not disturbing you with this call?”

Her words had barely fallen when Xiao Wenqing’s voice came through the other end. The insincerity in her voice was hidden beneath her intentional warmth, as if she were quite familiar with Wen Ran. (In truth, even during Wen Ran’s relationship with MO Zixuan, Xiao Wenqing had never been close to her.)

Wen Ran hesitated, then asked her politely but distantly, “What can I help you with, Mrs. MO?”

“Ranran, you are the daughter-in-law of the MO family after all. If Xiuchen can call me Auntie, can’t you do so too? Don’t be so distant. There’s something I need your help with. Do you have time right now? I’m at the Yi Pin Xuan Pavilion. Come over, we can eat and chat.”

Xiao Wenqing didn’t bother with formalities, treating it as a given that Wen Ran would come if she invited her.

However, Wen Ran didn’t want to have anything to do with her. Before, she knew nothing about the MO family. Now, having learned some things, especially from Nanny Zhang about how MO Xiuchen’s mother had committed suicide by jumping off a building years ago, she didn’t have a good impression of Xiao Wenqing anymore.

She knew that MO Xiuchen also bore a grudge against Xiao Wenqing. Now that he wasn’t here, she was even less inclined to accept her invitation.

After some thought, Wen Ran refused her offer. “I can’t get away right now,

Aunt Xiao. If there’s something you need, just tell me over the phone.”

She agreed to the form of address she’d suggested, showing respect in doing so. But Wen Ran hadn’t forgotten the way Xiao Wenqing had looked at her with open mockery on the morning that MO Zixuan and Zhou Lin had gotten together.

At that time, she must have been thrilled that her son was with Zhou Lin and no longer had to worry about this girl dragging him down.

“Ranran, this isn’t something that can be explained over the phone. If you’re busy, I’ll wait here. But as soon as you’re done, you must come by. Now, you go on with your work!”

Xiao Wenqing didn’t give her a chance to refuse before she promptly ended the

cctll.

Listening to the beeping from the other end, Wen Ran furrowed her brows slightly.

Wen Ran wanted to call MO Xiuchen to tell him that Xiao Wenqing was looking for her. But considering Cheng Jia’s situation, she was afraid he would feel annoyed, so in the end, she dropped the idea of calling him.

After some hesitation, she decided to go to the Yi Pin Xuan Pavilion to see what Xiao Wenqing wanted.

More than twenty minutes later, her car arrived at the Yi Pin Xuan Pavilion.

As she approached the entrance, Bai Xiaoxiao was exiting the place with two clients. Seeing her, Bai Xiaoxiao told the clients to go ahead without her and asked Wen Ran why she was alone.

“Xiao Wenqing said she had something to discuss with me.”

Wen Ran glanced at the hall inside and spoke in a calm tone.

Bai Xiaoxiao frowned, “What does Xiao Wenqing want from you? Ranran, it’s not about MO Zixuan, is it? I heard that he’s been drowning his sorrows in alcohol at the bar for the past two nights. Has he been bothering you again?”

Wen Ran looked slightly confused, “The day we came back from F City, he stopped me at the hospital, said a few things, and left. He hasn’t looked for me in these two days.”

As for whether Xiao Wenqing’s reasons had anything to do with MO Zixuan, she genuinely had no clue.

That night, after she had dinner with her brother and left the hospital with Auntie Li, she didn’t know that MO Zixuan had been waiting for her outside. He had seen the love bite on her neck and asked her if she had gotten involved with MO Xiuchen…

He didn’t pester her, but he did say a few things. His whole demeanor was off.

“Ranran, let me accompany you. So, if Xiao Wenqing gives you a hard time, you won’t be alone.”

Bai Xiaoxiao said uneasily, the previous time in F City, she hadn’t been with Wen Ran, and as a result, Wen Ran had been kidnapped. Now, she was prone to worry.

Xia Wenqing was in the upstairs hall.

Wen Ran and Bai Xiaoxiao saw her as soon as they went upstairs. She was sitting by the window. As she turned to look at them, a fleeting shadow of coldness swept across her eyes, before her face broke out into a warm and kind smile.

“Ranran, Miss Bai, please have a seat.”

As they approached the table, Xiao Wenqing stood up and excitedly invited them to sit. She didn’t ask why Bai Xiaoxiao had come along with Wen Ran.

“I happened to run into Ranran downstairs, so I came up with her. I hope I won’t be disturbing your conversation with Ranran, Mrs. MO?”

Bai Xiaoxiao offered an explanation proactively, a professional smile on her delicate face.

“Of course not.”

Xiao Wenqing smiled as well, showing no signs of displeasure. She beckoned a server and asked the two women what they’d like to eat, as her treat.

“Aunt Xiao, if there’s something you want to discuss you can do so now. I have to return to the company to handle some issues soon, so I won’t be staying for a meal.’

Wen Ran didn’t take the menu from the server. She spoke indifferently, emphasizing that her purpose for coming here was not to have a meal. If Xiao Wenqing hadn’t insisted on waiting for her here, she wouldn’t have come in the first place.

The smile on Xiao Wenqing’s face faltered slightly, but she quickly regained her composure. Taking the menu from the server’s hand, she said, “Food keeps us going and working requires energy. Even if you’re working, you must eat well. If you won’t order, then I’ll do it. I’ll just order a few dishes and we can chat while eating. If Old MO learned I asked you to come all the way here, and didn’t even treat you to a meal, he’d be mad at me.”

By bringing up Old MO, she merely wanted to remind Wen Ran that no matter what, she was Wen Ran’s elder..
