Wen Ran was lucky.

Although the cliff was not hundreds or thousands of feet high, the bottom of it was filled with rocks. If she really jumped off, it would certainly claim her life.

Fortunately, she did not fall to the bottom, but was caught by a tree only a few meters down. The tree, bent by the winding vines, had luckily broke her fall.

She had been scratched on the left cheek and arm by the tree branches. Peering at the tree and vines that caught her in the dim moonlight, Wen Ran dared not move, fearing the not-so-large tree could not support her weight.

Ignoring the pain on her face and arm, she held onto the vine with one hand and hugged the tree with another. After the fear of death subsided, a sense of indescribable restlessness crept into her heart.

As her hand touched her collar, the sound of a car’s horn brought back some of her lost sanity. Holding onto the neck of her skirt, she squinted at the top of the cliff, bearing the discomfort.

Then, she saw a light!

A thought suddenly popped into her head – MO Xiuchen had arrived!

For some reason, upon seeing the light, she felt sure it was MO Xiuchen who had come. He came to F City for her. Perhaps, Xiaoxiao would find her lost phone in the corridor outside the restaurant washroom.

Even if she didn’t find it, they would know something had happened to her when they didn’t see her return.

“Wen Ran, you must endure, no matter how unbearable it is, you must endure.” She told herself, biting her lips tightly.

Every minute and second of waiting was torture. To keep herself sane, she bit through her lip and reminded herself again and again that MO Xiuchen would come soon.

A few minutes later, Wen Ran heard vague voices. The distance was too far, she couldn’t make out what they were saying. After another two minutes, she seemed to hear MO Xiuchen’s voice.

The familiar voice drove away all the fear and despair in her heart. Since marrying MO Xiuchen, there had never been a moment when she was as thrilled at his arrival as she was now.

The flashlight at the top of the cliff was getting closer, and the voices clearer. She was sure, it was not only MO Xiuchen but also Luo Haofeng.

“MO Xiuchen, I am here!”

She lifted her small face and shouted towards the top of the cliff.

Perhaps she was too excited. When she shouted, the tree under her swayed violently. It seemed that a vine had separated from the trunk. She was so scared that she held her breath, she hugged the tree trunk tightly, trembling slightly.

“Haofeng, I think it’s Wen Ran’s voice.”

MO Xiuchen and Luo Haofeng were downwind. Their voices easily drifted up, while Wen Ran’s voice from below was relatively weak and not so easy to hear.

“I also heard it, it seems to be her!”

There was joy on Luo Haofeng’s face as he looked at the cliff. Upon hearing Luo Haofeng’s confirmation, MO Xiuchen’s eyes gleamed, and he sprinted towards the edge of the cliff.

“Xiuchen, slow down, watch your step.”

There was a flash of worry in Luo Haofeng’s eyes. He was afraid that if he was too anxious and couldn’t see the road at the edge of the cliff, he would stumble down, causing more trouble.

“Wen Ran, if it’s really you, give me a response. Let me know where you are.” Having run a few steps, MO Xiuchen called out.

The crisp voice riddled with the night wind reached Wen Ran, clearly echoing into her ears. She tightly pressed herself against the tree trunk, and the hot discomfort in her body surged back even more intensely after a brief respite.

She was trembling badly due to the discomfort, and her arms, wrapped tightly around the tree, were getting weaker.

“I’m here!”

Her voice was trembling as well, her head becoming more and more painful and dizzy. She didn’t think she could hold on much longer.

MO Xiuchen reached the edge of the cliff, and shone his flashlight down. He soon saw Wen Ran, hanging on the tree a few meters below. A considerable height lay beneath her, and at the foot of the cliff, were rocks!

His heart clenched fiercely. He didn’t dare to imagine what would happen if she fell to the bottom of the cliff. In the next moment, a sense of relief and joy swelled up in him. Thank goodness, she was caught by the tree.

But she didn’t look okay. Her body was constantly shaking, and her gaze, which was full of joy upon seeing him, quickly turned blurry.

“Wen Ran, don’t be afraid. I’ll get you up.”

MO Xiuchen took a deep breath secretly, trying to calm himself down. His voice as soothing as usual.

Though his words were calm, MO Xiuchen was extremely anxious deep down.

While Wen Ran was hanging on a tree, the tree wasn’t thick, and its roots were growing in the crevice of the cliff. At any moment, it could snap under her weight.

“Hmm!”

Wen Ran responded softly, closing her eyes to stop her mind from wandering.

“Young Master MO, we have a rope here. I’ll tie it around my waist and go down to save Miss Wen.” Uncle Ming’s assistant approached with a spare rope from their vehicle.

“Give it to me, I’ll go down.”

Without a second thought, MO Xiuchen reached out his hand. Surprised, the man instinctively shook his head: ‘Young Master MO, you can’t go. It’s too dangerous. I should be the one to go.”

This man was Uncle Ming’s capable assistant. Uncle Ming and Qin Mu were good friends, and Young Master MO was Qin Mu’s superior and brother. He couldn’t dare let him risk his life.

“No need, I will go!”

MO Xiuchen’s handsome eyebrows knitted together, his tone carrying an air of authority that didn’t permit any rebellion. Intimidated by the sudden aura that MO Xiuchen exuded, the man slackened his grip, allowing MO Xiuchen to take the rope.

“Wen Ran, hang in there for a few more minutes. I will quickly bring you up.”

MO Xiuchen handed the rope to Luo Haofeng, signaling him to tie it on him. His deep gaze fixed on Wen Ran at the base of the cliff, seeing her body trembling continuously, his heart raced in worry.

“Miss Wen seems very unwell.”

Luo Haofeng frowned, his brow furrowed as he tied the rope on MO Xiuchen and spoke.

“That Liu Mazi gave Miss Wen some medication.”

The man who had just offered to save Wen Ran hesitated before explaining.

After saying this, he quietly watched MO Xiuchen’s expressions, noticing his handsome face turning ice cold, he felt a chill run down his spine, freezing in place.

“Wen Ran, you must hold on. Tighten your grip on the tree.”

MO Xiuchen pressed his lips together tightly, a trace of bloodthirsty ruthlessness flashed in his eyes but was quickly replaced with deep worry.

“Hmm!”

Wen Ran’s face, which had been tilted upwards, now drooped downward; her voice was extremely weak.

Especially upon seeing MO Xiuchen, she couldn’t stop her mind from wandering.

“Ah Feng, hurry up!”

The steady composure of MO Xiuchen began to crumble bit by bit due to his worries that Wen Ran might not be able to hang on. His voice dripped with an almost imperceptible urgency.

“Done. MO Xiuchen, you need to be careful. We will all pull you up together.”

“The rope is long enough to go around this big tree.”

MO Xiuchen glanced at a thick tree nearby and instructed Luo Haofeng. Although there were four or five of them, once he was going to bring Wen Ran up, it would be safer to have the rope go around the tree, just in case.

“Alright!”

Luo Haofeng complied, and once everyone was ready, they lowered MO Xiuchen down. He held onto the bushes at the edge of the cliff, his tall frame slowly sliding down. All the while, he cooed comforting words to Wen Ran: “Wen Ran, just hold on for two more minutes.”

“Wen Ran, hold on to the tree and don’t let go.”

“Think about your brother and Bai Xiaoxiao- they are all so worried about you!” The color in MO Xiuchen’s eyes shifted, he tilted his head upwards to shout commands at the people on the cliff: “Faster!”

“MO Xiuchen! ”

She tremblingly called out, as if she had endured it to her limit; the hand that was clenched tight around the vine suddenly relaxed and stretched towards him.

Because she was in such a hurry, the arm that had been holding onto the tree trunk loosened its grip. She lost her balance as her body detached itself from the branch and vine, ready to fall down…

“Wen Ran!”

In the nick of time, MO Xiuchen’s eyes widened in shock. He gripped her wrist firmly, pulling her towards him. Twisting his body a bit, he wrapped his other arm around her waist, pulling her into his embrace. Due to the sudden increase in weight, they both plummeted down about a meter.

Wen Ran’s body shook violently, while MO Xiuchen tightened his hold around her waist. He softly reassured her, “Don’t be afraid, I’m here..”
