MO Xiuchen pushed open the door to the sickroom, and MO Jingteng immediately looked over from the bed.

The father and son’s eyes met in the air filled with the smell of disinfectant. One was deep and complicated, the other was cold as ice.

MO Jingteng’s face changed a few times before he spoke first, “Xiuchen, you finally came to see me. Sit here, I have something to say to you.”

He knew that if he called, MO Xiuchen would not come. So, he asked Gu Kai’s father, Director Gu, to call, and to act as a go-between before MO Xiuchen agreed to visit his sick room.

MO Xiuchen did not speak. His thin lips formed a cold and resolute straight line. He strode over and stopped a few steps from the bed. He said coldly, “What do you want to say? Say it fast. I have to return to the company shortly.”

A flash of pain crossed MO Jingteng’s eyes. The younger MO Xiuchen was not this unfeeling. He was lively and lovable, a delight to all.

Ever since his mother’s suicide, his gaze towards MO Jingteng had been filled with hatred.

When he was eleven years old, he was kidnapped. After a brush with death, he finally survived. However, due to the physical abuse, the doctors said it would be impossible for him to become a normal man when he grew up. It seemed that from then onwards, even the hatred in his gaze was gone.

What was left was a coldness sharper than a knife blade.

MO Jingteng tried to make up for his mistakes and tried to get closer to MO Xiuchen, just like how they used to be. But no matter how he tried, MO Xiuchen had completely shut him out from his world.

The only good thing he did that MO Xiuchen had not rejected was getting him into the corporation and training him. MO Xiuchen was intelligent. After surviving his ordeal at eleven, he learned a crucial truth – it was imperative to make himself powerful.

Only by being powerful could he protect himself from being bullied and do what he wanted to do.

He no longer had a mother, and his father had been taken away from him. As a helpless child, the only person he could rely on was himself.

He joined the corporation not through connections, but through his own strength. It was as if he was born for business. Moreover, he was diligent in studying. In high school, he began taking university-level courses. While other peers were still focusing on being exemplary students without any practical experience, several companies had already offered him opportunities.

MO Jingteng looked at his son’s firm and resolute features, reminiscing about the lively and lovable boy he once was. For a moment, his heart was filled with boundless bitterness. His voice wavered slightly as he called out, “Xiuchen!”

MO Xiuchen’s face was covered with a thin layer of frost, unperturbed by the complexity in MO Jingteng’s eyes.

Having long ago grown accustomed to his son’s cold demeanour, MO Jingteng decided to speak for himself, “I never intended to make Wen Ran infertile forever. I was just worried that she might have been drugged that night.. “Even if Wen Ran was taken advantage of, it’s not your place to intervene.”

Before his words could fully leave his lips , he was harshly interrupted by MO Xiuchen. The coldness in his eyes was like a sharpened knife, pointing straight at him. His fists were clenched tightly, and the visible veins on his forehead revealed his fury.

Killing his mother wasn’t enough, he wanted to harm his child now.

Back then, he was too young to protect his mother. But now, as a grown man, if he couldn’t protect the woman he loved, what was he even good for?

MO Jingteng’s face paled white, as MO Xiuchen reproached him, “Xiao Wenqing is your woman. Are you telling me her actions were not your orders? Back then, you didn’t manage to kill me, or incapacitate me. Now, you’re trying to harm my woman and child. I won’t let her off the hook.”

“Xiuchen, I had no idea Xiao Wenqing would do such a thing.”

The surprise in MO Xiuchen’s eyes deepened when he heard MO Jingteng actually use Xiao Wenqing’s full name, making his sardonic smile even more pronounced.

“I won’t listen to any explanations. I will remember what happened.”

MO Xiuchen said, word by word, promising to make Xiao Wenqing pay the price.

“Xiuchen, I can apologize to Wen Ran.”

MO Jingteng looked at MO Xiuchen earnestly. How could he have believed Xiao Wenqing’s words back then? How could he have agreed to her manipulative suggestions?

MO Xiuchen smirked coldly, ‘Wen Ran doesn’t need your apology.”

“Xiuchen, I know you hate me. I was wrong in this matter. No matter what I say now, you won’t believe it, but I sincerely want to apologize to Wen Ran…”

Under the stress, a layer of sweat formed on MO Jingteng’s forehead. He clutched at his chest and his words were cut off.

Meanwhile, in the living room of the Zhou family’s home.

Zhou Lin and Zhou Mingfu sat on separate sofas, the atmosphere was tense.

After Zhou Lin returned from F City, she moved directly into the MO mansion. She did not return home for several days, and did not even make a phone call to Zhou Mingfu.

This morning, Zhou Mingfu couldn’t sit still and called her home. He asked her about her investigation into Wen Ran’s background in F City. However, Zhou Lin told him that she had previously been mistaken.

Wen Ran’s background wasn’t suspicious at all. She was indeed the biological daughter of Wen Hongrui.

Having slogged it out in the business world for decades, Zhou Mingfu was shrewd and knew his daughter very well. There was no way he would believe her so easily. His sharp gaze made Zhou Lin’s scalp tingle. After an uncomfortable silence, Zhou Lin suddenly retched and ran to the bathroom, her hand covering her mouth.

Once in the bathroom, she took a deep breath and quickly took out her phone to send MO Zixuan a text, telling him that her father did not believe her and asking him to come to the rescue.

After a few minutes of vomiting, Zhou Lin came out of the bathroom looking pale. She slowly made her way back to the sofa and sat down.

Zhou Mingfu narrowed his eyes and asked calmly, “Ah Lin, are you hiding something from me?”

Zhou Lin shook her head in confusion. Having notified MO Zixuan, she was no longer nervously scared when she met Zhou Mingfu’s gaze. She calmly looked back at him and lightly said, “Dad, I hope more than anybody that Wen Ran is not Wen Hongrui’s biological daughter. If she is not from the Wen family, she would have no right to compete with me. However, the results of my investigation are contrary to my hopes.”

By the end of her sentence, Zhou Lin’s eyes were filled with regret and disappointment. Just as Zhou Mingfu was about to say something, her phone rang.

She pulled out her phone, and her face lit up when she saw the caller ID. She laughed and said, “Dad, it’s a call from Zixuan. He hardly ever calls me.”

Zhou Mingfu’s sharp gaze softened and he said kindly, “Answer it. The better Zixuan treats you, the higher your chances of marrying into the MO family.”

The MO family was a wealthy family that Zhou Mingfu could not compare to. Once his daughter became Mrs. MO, his standing in society would naturally rise.

“Hello, Zixuan!”

Zhou Lin pressed the answer button, her voice soft and sweet as she answered.

“Where are you now?”

On the other end of the phone, MO Zixuan asked as if he was unaware..
