Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2829: Chapter 3830: Fire Attack

”What are your plans next?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

Bai Ruomei bit her lip, ”Donghai’s condition is mainly about control. Once they’re not pampered, he’ll recover quickly. I’m planning to go back to our hometown and settle in Fengye Village.”

”You’re not planning to stay with your father and them?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

Bai Ruomei shook her head vigorously, ”No, I’m not. I’ve secretly saved up some personal money. In Fengye Village, I can buy about an acre and a half of land. It’ll be enough for my son and me to have a basic living, and I’ll do some embroidery work. The clan chief and Grandpa are good people. If the Lu family causes trouble later, they’ll help me. But in Mountain Village, can I rely on my father?”

She showed a look of disdain, ”He probably could even take the money meant for raising my child.”

Bai Ruozhu nodded, ”It’s good that you understand. When are you planning to leave? I’ll arrange someone to escort you since the times are chaotic.”

”Thank you, Ruozhu,” Bai Ruomei said gratefully.

Bai Ruozhu quietly observed her expression. She didn’t have any intention of relying on the Bai family, nor was she disappointed about being sent away. It seemed she truly wanted to live a steady life now.

Bai Ruozhu was willing to help someone like that.

The two discussed it a bit more. Bai Ruozhu was busy and might be called to the front lines at any time. If the Lu family caused trouble, she wouldn’t be able to take care of Bai Ruomei.

Thus, Bai Ruomei planned to leave the next day, not wanting to have any ties with the Lu family.

Early the next morning, Bai Ruozhu hired a horse carriage to send Bai Ruomei and her son out of the city, secretly slipping her fifty liang of silver.

Aiding in emergencies but not poverty; if managed well, this fifty liang of silver could buy farmland and start small trades, ensuring a secure life for her and her son.

But if she doesn’t work hard and waits for relatives’ support, even five hundred liang wouldn’t be enough.

”Mom, I’m hungry. I want some dimsum!” Lu Donghai immediately demanded as soon as they got on the carriage.

Bai Ruozhu stayed silent, curious about how Bai Ruomei would handle it.

”There are no dimsum. You can’t eat them all the time from now on,” Bai Ruomei said sternly.

Lu Donghai was a bit shaken by yesterday’s incident, but a personality doesn’t change overnight.

So, he started rolling around inside the carriage, shouting, ”I want dimsum. You’re mistreating me. I’m going to find my dad!”

Bai Ruomei gave him a swat on the backside, ”Sit up straight, or else I’ll really spank you!”

Apparently, Bai Ruomei had never hit Lu Donghai before, so he was startled and forgot to act up.

Bai Ruomei pulled him up and said with a stern face, ”If you behave, you can have a little dimsum when we get home. But if you can’t control your temper, you’ll never get any dimsum. Also, your dad can’t control you. You can leave when you grow up and go wherever you want then!”

Bai Ruozhu gave a few instructions to the dark guard escorting them, then had the carriage set off. She watched the carriage fade into the distance before turning back to Liuri City.

This was all she could do to help; how Bai Ruomei would manage the future was up to her.

”Master, the Government Office punished that concubine with twenty lashes and banished her to the frontier,” Jianqi said.

Bai Ruozhu nodded, ”Not bad. What about Lu Ming?”

”He doesn’t dare do anything. The family is planning to take the child back once you leave,” Jianqi replied.

Bai Ruozhu sneered, ”My cousin knows them well. She returned immediately. With the clan chief and Grandpa’s help in the future, the Lu family won’t be able to act up.”

”Should we deal with them a bit?” Jianqi suggested.

”Just inform the Medical Alliance that for the Lu family, the consultation fees should be doubled,” Bai Ruozhu laughed. The Lu family didn’t have much money, and if the medical expenses increased, they’d have no energy left to cause trouble.

”Understood.”

...

The army on the battlefield beat the gongs to signal a retreat. The Turkic soldiers were numerous, and the Commerce Association, ultimately not a formally trained army, couldn’t achieve an overwhelming victory.

However, they had some advantages. Lin Zhenghui suspected a ruse and often chose not to pursue a desperate enemy.

The Turkic soldiers fought valiantly and moved quickly, making them hard to completely defeat.

”Can’t you be more careful? You got yourself injured just to kill a small leader. Ruozhu will definitely give me an earful later,” Lin Zhenghui said to Jiang Yichun, who had just come off the battlefield.

Jiang Yichun had a cut on his left arm, but fortunately, it wasn’t deep.

He smiled and said, ”What’s a little injury? It’ll be fine after the war.”

”Heh, heh. Ruozhu will definitely come over with the supplies, and you’ll be in for a scolding then,” Lin Zhenghui said with a schadenfreude grin.

Sure enough, the next day Bai Ruozhu sent people with supplies and also brought along doctors for the shift change.

”Achun!” she walked over joyfully, ”Guess who I ran into in Liuri City?”

Jiang Yichun felt a bit nervous, worried she’d notice his injury, ”Who did you run into?”

”My eldest cousin Bai Ruomei.” She briefly recounted Bai Ruomei’s situation and asked about his conditions on the battlefield.

”The opponent moves fast, making it hard to completely eliminate them. It’ll take a few more days,” Jiang Yichun said.

Suddenly, the sound of a horn blared, an enemy attack!

A cavalry unit was charging rapidly towards them, clearly a suicide squad.

Are the Turkic people crazy?

They quickly saw the Turkic soldiers pulling bows on their galloping horses, igniting arrows, and aiming them at the camp.

”Archers ready!” Jiang Yichun commanded loudly, ”Fire!”

Arrows flew out, but the Turkic soldiers were too fast, hitting only two, and one of them still managed to shoot a flaming arrow.

Bai Ruozhu squinted her eyes. What were they trying to do? Burn the camp?

Suddenly, a flaming arrow landed near her, and she instantly understood. The Turkic soldiers had somehow discovered they were transporting supplies and wanted to burn their provision!

But their Main Camp was just behind them, even if the supplies were burned, they would only go without for a day or two until reinforcements arrived. Why sacrifice such good horses and riders for a suicide mission?

Her eyes suddenly lit up; this must be it!

Flaming arrows continued to shoot over, and Jiang Yichun hurried to urge her to take cover.

She looked at a burning cart and shouted, ”Quickly move the provisions into the storage, don’t let them burn.”

Then she whispered to Jiang Yichun, ”Follow my lead later on.”

Jiang Yichun hesitated, with so many around, it wasn’t convenient to ask why, so he nodded in agreement.

Things turned out as Bai Ruozhu had suspected. Once the provisions were moved into storage, they quickly caught fire inside as well.

Sparks outside could easily be brought in, and under these circumstances, it seemed suspiciously normal to have a spy.

”Everyone, evacuate and avoid getting hurt!” Bai Ruozhu shouted.

Jiang Yichun was about to condense water vapor to extinguish the fire, but Bai Ruozhu stopped him by holding his hand.
