Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2173: Chapter 2171: You’ll Die

The steward realized he misspoke and hurriedly lowered his head, clearly very afraid of Zhou Shibin.

Zhou Shibin glanced at Bai Ruozhu and the others, noticed the ”middle-aged merchant” seemed completely unconcerned with them, paid the money and left, after which he withdrew his gaze.

”Go, have someone investigate that merchant. Deal with him directly if there’s a problem,” Zhou Shibin instructed a subordinate in a low voice.

Bai Ruozhu hadn’t gone far, so naturally, she heard his words. She maintained a steady pace and left slowly with Feng Cheng.

Young Master? Bai Ruozhu pondered, where exactly is this Young Master from? The Commerce Association isn’t owned by a single family.

After walking a substantial distance, Feng Cheng spoke in a low voice, ”Did you hear what he said? Should I deal with them first?”

”Don’t act rashly, we still haven’t figured things out,” Bai Ruozhu replied quietly.

”Do you know that person?” Feng Cheng asked again.

”We crossed paths briefly at the Commerce Association in Danliang. He didn’t seem like this at first, it’s not simple,” Bai Ruozhu remarked with some emotion.

”Don’t worry, in the face of absolute strength, all schemes and plots are mere paper tigers,” Feng Cheng said earnestly.

Bai Ruozhu looked at him, ”Paper tiger? Who did you learn that from?”

Feng Cheng paused and said, ”My former sister-in-law.”

Bai Ruozhu thought of the predecessor who transmigrated and brought a man back, and she understood.

Quickly, the two returned to the Inn. Bai Ruozhu told Jianqi about Zhou Shibin and arranged for Jianqi to discreetly investigate.

”Don’t force it, if you can’t find anything, let it go, and make sure not to expose yourself,” Bai Ruozhu instructed again.

”Yes, Master,” Jianqi quickly left the Inn, and Feng Cheng also disappeared from sight.

Bai Ruozhu suddenly recalled something Fen Jiu had said, that members of the Fen Family were all passionate, once they fell in love, it would last a lifetime.

Feng Cheng had lived for so long, surely he had someone he loved?

Later, Zhou Shibin’s people came to observe them secretly. Bai Ruozhu pretended not to notice, adopting the demeanor of a busy merchant boss as a pair of children approached him. He dismissed them with a smile, saying he was busy with business and told them to go back to their room to rest.

Only then did the hidden individual quietly leave.

By noon, Jianqi hadn’t returned, but Feng Cheng appeared once more.

”I found out,” he said lightly.

Bai Ruozhu was taken aback, ”So fast? Zhou Shibin’s identity?”

”With my skills, is it hard to investigate a little matter?” Feng Cheng said with a tinge of pride in his tone, ”He’s the second son of King Ying of Chengshui Country, King Ying was the brother of their former emperor. That Zhou Shibin and the heir of King Ying, his elder brother, are in fierce contention, so he risked infiltrating the Commerce Association of Chengshui Country, hoping to win the favor of the old prince by collecting intelligence.”

Bai Ruozhu didn’t expect his investigation to be so thorough, surprised she asked, ”Did you expose yourself? You didn’t threaten or coerce anyone, did you?”

”No, I overheard it secretly, they absolutely couldn’t detect my presence,” Feng Cheng said.

Bai Ruozhu felt reassured, pondering carefully. Indeed, Zhou Shibin was also surnamed Zhou, and being called Young Master, perhaps the steward of the Commerce Association here was one of King Ying’s men?

”Thank you, but there’s no need to do this next time,” Bai Ruozhu said softly.

”Anyway, idle hands are the devil’s workshop,” Feng Cheng said, turning back to his room. As soon as he entered, he coughed up blood, his face turning a few shades paler.

He hurriedly retrieved a small bottle, took out a red pill and put it into his mouth – it was the very medicine Bai Ruozhu had given him to replenish Qi Blood.

Soon he sat cross-legged on the bed, regulating his energy.

Bai Ruozhu shook her head with helplessness in the corridor, preparing to return to the Room, suddenly smelling a stench of blood. She understood instantly and rushed to Feng Cheng’s room.

Upon entering, she saw a pool of blood on the ground and Feng Cheng’s chest stained with little spots of blood.

”You’re hurt?” Bai Ruozhu asked angrily, ”Why don’t you say something if you’re injured? Why pretend?”

As she spoke, she rushed forward to grab his wrist to take his pulse, but Feng Cheng retracted his hand, ”It’s nothing.”

Bai Ruozhu quickly calmed down, with Feng Cheng’s strength, no one could hurt him unless faced with a large number of people, a network of attacks. But within this city, it’s not big, everyone acts low-key, no one would bring such military forces.

”You’re not injured! Is the Curse worsening?” Bai Ruozhu’s expression changed drastically, ”Is it that you can’t use too much of your power, or else the Curse will worsen?”

”That’s not the case,” Feng Cheng said with a bitter smile. She was too smart; trying to keep this from her quietly was hard enough.

Bai Ruozhu took advantage of his distraction and caught his wrist again. This time she used some clever strength, making it not so easy for him to break free.

”The Curse is indeed worsening? What’s going on? Can those people affect you?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

Unfortunately, Feng Cheng wore an expression of refusal to answer.

Bai Ruozhu withdrew her hand, angry but instead coldly smiled, ”If you don’t speak, do you think I can’t guess?”

She paced in the Room before suddenly saying, ”It’s not using inner strength that worsens the Curse, otherwise it would have worsened in the Jiuli Clan. It’s worsened because you left the Jiuli Clan, which means something in the Jiuli Clan suppresses your Curse, but when you leave, the Curse naturally worsens!”

”Is it that Peach Forest, is there an Array there?” Bai Ruozhu asked urgently. She too had started having nightmares for the past few days, though she hadn’t mentioned it to those around her.

Previously in the Jiuli Clan, after discovering she was cursed, she had been taking medicine to calm the mind, and continuing to use it on this journey, the nightmares had resumed.

That is to say, the medicine she was taking was more effective when combined with what was in the Jiuli Clan; only that Peach Forest seemed likely. Though she didn’t live in the Peach Forest, being close to it, she benefitted.

Feng Cheng still didn’t speak, but Bai Ruozhu could see the answer from his clenched fists.

He was nervous, in pain; he didn’t want her to know these things.

”Feng Cheng, why do you put yourself through this, you’ll die!” Bai Ruozhu sighed.

”Everyone dies, if not interesting, might as well be in a blaze of glory...” He didn’t say the last three words, it’s him loving, the other person doesn’t love him back.

”Don’t do anything foolish, hurry back to the Peach Forest, I’ll surely come to see you after some time,” Bai Ruozhu softened her tone, as if coaxing a child.

Feng Cheng got up from the bed, wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, and said, ”I’m not going back! See, I’m already okay, it’s just a momentary flare-up, it’s not going to be fatal immediately? I can at least last a few more years, if I can’t hold out, I’ll return to the Peach Forest. Maybe by then, I’ve found a way to lift the curse.”

Seeing Bai Ruozhu still hesitant, he continued, ”Do you want to be trapped in one place all the time? So even if I die searching for a way to lift the curse, it’s better than being stuck in the Peach Forest, enduring torment.”
