Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1811: Chapter 1811: Si Yihuan Brings News

Bai Ruozhu noticed that Gai Yalai had calmed down for a few days and started leaving the Residence again, as if she couldn’t stay still.

Moreover, Gai Yalai’s health had improved considerably, and the red rash on her face had faded by nearly half. She no longer needed to wear a gauze cap when going out, only covering her eyes with a thin veil.

Bai Ruozhu had people monitoring her every move and quickly figured out what she was up to.

She went to meet with some Noblewomen she was friendly with in the Capital, acting as if she was catching up with old friends, but she was subtly implying that her daughter-in-law was unfilial, particularly harsh to her, and that her daughter-in-law’s family even hit her.

At the Prime Minister’s Residence, Gai Yalai was speaking with the Prime Minister’s daughter-in-law, Wei Shi, who was also Si Yihuan’s mother.

”Alas, my daughter-in-law is very tough; she resorts to hitting if there’s any disagreement. The Bai Family hails from the countryside, very vulgar, with no Family Law or rules, acting out whenever they’re displeased. Tell me, in noble families like ours, who would personally lay hands on someone?”

Gai Yalai spoke while wiping the corners of her eyes with a handkerchief, continuing, ”It’s a pity my son went out of town, or these people wouldn’t have bullied me. I wanted to move out to live, but my daughter-in-law has some involvement with that Chengshui Sixth Prince. I was nearly killed by that Zhou Jue. I have no choice but to continue living at the Bai Residence.”

Wei Shi initially didn’t want to see Gai Yalai. They weren’t close before, merely nodding in greeting when they met. But when the maid came to announce her visit, she considered that her daughter would marry into the Bai Family in the future, and since Gai Yalai was Jiang Yichun’s biological mother, she should show some respect. Who would have thought she came to badmouth the Bai Family, making it awkward for her to respond or not respond.

”Sister, I understand your difficulties too. You still have to worry about your daughter’s future. I shouldn’t be saying these things to you, but as women, we understand the challenges a woman faces after marriage, so I can’t help but want to remind you.” Gai Yalai spoke sincerely, and the phrase ”challenges a woman faces after marriage” indeed moved Wei Shi.

Wei Shi frowned slightly, feeling a bit worried. She had considered that the Bai Family wasn’t truly noble like those in the Capital, and they didn’t follow the strict rules of high family gates. But her father-in-law said the Bai Family was newly wealthy and that many aristocrats don’t stay rich for long. One should look far ahead.

Since her father-in-law was the Prime Minister, his vision couldn’t be wrong. Besides, she had also asked her daughter Si Yihuan, and her daughter was willing. Moreover, the Bai Family had a simple household without the scheming common in large mansions. She thought it should suit her somewhat scatterbrained daughter.

However...

”Look at my face; it’s still swollen. The Bai Family had two Jianghu people pop up out of nowhere. The woman claimed to be my daughter-in-law’s brother. One disagreement and she hit me, saying she’d kill me. It’s simply too rude.” Gai Yalai cried as she spoke, ”After all, I am Bai Ruozhu’s mother-in-law. Can’t we talk things out? I just went out to visit old friends, and they weren’t happy. Isn’t this like putting me under house arrest?”

Gai Yalai didn’t mention cursing the relatives of the Bai Family’s in-laws. Given that she had indeed left the Bai Family to visit friends a few days before, it made it seem like Bai Ruozhu was causing trouble for her over that.

”Jianghu people?” Wei Shi was shocked. ”Getting involved with Jianghu people doesn’t sound good.”

Gai Yalai immediately said, ”Exactly, the man with her aunt is even more frightening. I heard they’re not even married but living together, it’s utterly chaotic.”

This time Wei Shi frowned even deeper but wouldn’t say a single bad word given her status and nature.

A slim figure outside the window flashed by, quickly leaving the Main Courtyard and returning to Third Miss Si Yihuan’s yard.

”Miss, you have no idea how that Lady Xue really knows how to stir up trouble.” The little maid mimicked Gai Yalai’s words word for word; she had a good memory and spoke clearly, almost identical to how Gai Yalai had said it.

Si Yihuan sighed, ”My mother loses her head when concerned, how can she listen to such a woman’s words? Alright, alright, Yingge accompany me for a walk.”

Shortly afterward, a young attendant from Yingkelai came to the Bai Family, saying they had an honored guest requesting to see Bai Ruozhu and handed up a card. When Bai Ruozhu saw it was from Si Yihuan, she quickly tidied herself and went to Yingkelai.

”Why not come directly to my house to see me?” Bai Ruozhu asked as she entered the private room and saw Si Yihuan savoring her food. ”Are you trying to avoid seeing me before the wedding?”

Si Yihuan leisurely put down her chopsticks, pouting, ”I’m here to pass on a message to you, of course not wanting to be too conspicuous. After all, I sent a maid to eavesdrop on my mom talking to a guest; it doesn’t sound good if it gets out.”

Bai Ruozhu raised an eyebrow, ”Guest? You mean Gai Yalai?”

Si Yihuan propped her cheek with her hand, ”Seems you don’t like your mother-in-law at all.”

”Even my husband doesn’t call her mom. How could I take the initiative to call her mother-in-law without making my husband feel uncomfortable?” Bai Ruozhu said as she casually found a seat, poured herself a cup of tea, and took a small sip. ”Plus, she schemed against me and my son as soon as she arrived, blocked the Main Gate, and cursed my sister-in-law’s family. Do you think I can like her?”

Si Yihuan’s eyes widened, ”I said she’s not an easy one; I didn’t expect her to be so arrogant. No wonder your aunt hit her.”

Bai Ruozhu briefly explained why her aunt lost her temper and hit Gai Yalai. After listening to Si Yihuan recounting what Gai Yalai said at the Prime Minister’s Residence, they both sighed together.

”Good hit, your aunt is truly a heroine. I would also want to hit her, but unfortunately, I lack the strength and can only call on the maids to exert their force.” Si Yihuan leaned her chin on her hand, looking lazy.

Bai Ruozhu looked her up and down, then suddenly pinched her thin waist and said mockingly, ”Your body is too weak; after you marry over, practice some boxing with me. At least it will keep you healthy for childbearing.”

Si Yihuan felt a bit embarrassed by her words, ”I’m not trying to be a heroine.”

”With your body, you’ll know the risks when you have children,” Bai Ruozhu looked her up and down again.

”Hey, no going off-topic like that. You should think about how to deal with your mother-in-law. She’s not only been to my house but looks like she’ll go to other houses too.” Si Yihuan pouted. ”While my mom isn’t easily fooled, she has always been wary of Jianghu people. I don’t want my mom to have any misunderstandings about your family as I want to marry smoothly.”

Bai Ruozhu chuckled, this Si Yihuan was indeed amusing. At this time, most women would blush at the mention of marriage, unlike her, who spoke so directly about marrying over. Was she thinking of the second brother, or the second brother’s family’s meals?
