Chapter 1810: Chapter 1810: Evil Spirit Ritual

”Poisonous insect?” Bai Ruozhu was truly startled, ”This is the City, how could there be wild poisonous insects? Could it have been released by someone? Aunt, you’re not talking about mine, are you?”

Jiao Ling shook her head, ”Yours is a good insect, very rare. I would remember it after seeing it once, I won’t mistake it.”

”So, the poisonous insect you sensed just now is harmful?” Bai Ruozhu felt his eyelid twitching, with such a thing in the house, how could the family be safe?

”Don’t be too nervous, Feng Jiu and I are Jiuli people, although neither of us specialize in raising insects, we do know ways to prevent and control them, we won’t let anything happen to you.” Jiao Ling said seriously.

As she spoke, she pulled Bai Ruozhu back. Bai Ruozhu hurriedly asked Jianqi to send someone to the Main Hall to report the news to the family, telling them not to go to the Garden recently.

After Bai Ruozhu was escorted back to the room by Jiao Ling, Jiao Ling found Feng Jiu and went to the Yard. Before she left, she said to Bai Ruozhu, ”We are going to sprinkle drug powder, since you are pregnant, it’s better not to get it on you.”

Bai Ruozhu nodded, understanding that all medicine has some poison, it might be fine for adults, but it’s most impactful on children and unborn children.

Thinking about this, he quickly went to find Dengdeng and Nanny Zhang, seriously telling Nanny Zhang, ”Aunt found poisonous insects in the Garden, she and Feng Jiu are figuring things out, don’t let Dengdeng go to the Garden recently.”

Nanny Zhang replied seriously upon hearing this, ”Yes, I will certainly keep a close eye on the young master.”

Bai Ruozhu clumsily squatted down to look at Little Dengdeng, and seriously said, ”Dengdeng, you must be obedient, these days you should stay inside and study the Mechanical Technique, okay? Don’t play in the Garden.”

Little Dengdeng, seeing his mother so stern, quickly nodded and said, ”I got it, I’ll just stay inside and fiddle with the mechanical box Auntie sent me, I won’t run outside to play.”

Bai Ruozhu patted her son’s little head. With such an obedient son, she could rest a bit easier.

About two hours later, even little Dengdeng had fallen asleep from drowsiness, Jiao Ling and Feng Jiu returned, both showing signs of fatigue on their faces.

”We checked the Garden several times, unfortunately, we didn’t catch that poisonous insect, but I’m sure my feeling is not wrong.” Jiao Ling said.

Feng Jiu added, ”If you can sense it, surely a poisonous insect has been here, it’s right to be cautious.”

”We sprinkled drug powder outside all the yards, in the Gardens, and on the small paths, unless it’s an extremely powerful evil insect, the normal poisonous insects can’t come near to harm us, within three days it has to leave the Bai Residence, otherwise it will perish as a puddle of dirty water.” Jiao Ling said, but there was little relief on her face.

She sighed and said, ”It’s all my fault for being scared of bugs since childhood, not raising insects properly, otherwise I could send my poisonous insects to kill it easily.”

Bai Ruozhu thought she could call on Furball, but upon communicating, Furball said it couldn’t find any other poisonous insects.

She guessed it’s possibly because Furball is a good insect, mainly protecting the owner, only sensing other poisonous insects approaching within a certain range. Or perhaps the other poisonous insect is very powerful, attracting it to want to devour it.

Of course, there’s the worst possibility, that the poisonous insect is stronger than Furball, so Furball cannot sense it.

”Don’t overthink it, if nothing works, wait for Ruozhu to give birth to the child, pass down Jiuli’s poisonous insect techniques to her, then there will be no fear of any poisonous insect,” Feng Jiu said.

Bai Ruozhu was a bit surprised, ”Can’t raise poison during pregnancy?”

”Good insects are fine, but many poisonous insects have the potential for backlash, most easily affecting unborn children in the owner’s body, so Jiuli women who raise poisonous insects let them roam free during pregnancy, and summon them back post-delivery, though some may die or refuse to return, it’s just how it is.” Jiao Ling explained.

”I see.” Bai Ruozhu thought and felt a bit scared, fortunately, Elder Shougu was trustworthy, as the Furball he gave was a good insect.

”Alright, you take a rest early, don’t stress too much.” Jiao Ling advised.

Bai Ruozhu saw Jiao Ling was about to leave and quickly said, ”Aunt, if you have time, consider visiting my cousin Bai Ruolan’s yard.”

Jiao Ling, knowing Bai Ruozhu to be a cautious person, was a bit puzzled and asked, ”Do you think there’s a problem with her?”

”She once suffered brain damage from hanging, regressing mentally to a child of a few years old, but recently some things have been odd, I feel uneasy, please discreetly check with Uncle, ensure she doesn’t notice anything.” Bai Ruozhu said.

”Alright, leave it to us.” Feng Jiu said, patting his chest.

The next morning, Jiao Ling came to Bai Ruozhu, saying they found no issues in Bai Ruolan’s yard.

”I’m not sure if she is truly foolish, but her yard has no poisonous insects, and she doesn’t seem like a person who raises them,” Jiao Ling said.

”Perhaps I’m overthinking,” Bai Ruozhu pondered for a moment but couldn’t figure out what was really going on with Bai Ruolan. Even the dark guard, watching Bai Ruolan closely over these days, found nothing suspicious.

Could it be that her repeated attempts to escape were just madness? That her repeated disappearances were sheer coincidental?

...

Jiang Yichun and his group had already infiltrated the Barbarian Clan, confirming where Yingtong and the others were held, and today they were going for the rescue.

Everything was set, Jiang Yichun led his men into the prison and soon found Bai Zebo, Yingtong, and the others.

”Brother-in-law, you finally made it.” Bai Zebo almost cried, he was after all just a sixteen, seventeen-year-old boy on his first trip far from home, nearly losing his life, how could he not be afraid?

”It’s alright, follow me, we save Yingtong and Chu Hai then leave,” Jiang Yichun whispered.

He continued deeper into the prison, the frail Yingtong opened her eyes upon hearing the commotion, her face immediately showing alarm when she saw him, ”Jiang Yichun, flee immediately, this is a trap, you don’t know the secrets of the barbarian tribe, if you don’t leave now, you’ll be trapped here forever!”

Jiang Yichun’s face dropped, ”We’ll save you all and leave together, no more talking!”

But as soon as he finished, drums resounded from outside, unlike the war drums of Zhongyuan, its rhythm was peculiar, akin to an ancient war song, carrying an unspeakable eeriness.

A sense of dread surged within Jiang Yichun, he worried about Tang Feng, stationed outside for backup, whether he was already discovered by the Barbarian Tribe.

”Hurry!” he cried out, but everyone realized something was wrong, the ground beneath their feet seemed like a mire, making movement impossible, everyone quickly collapsing to the ground exhausted.

”This, this is the Barbarian Clan’s Evil Spirit Ritual, have they gone mad? Such a grand evil spirit ritual demands a sacrifice of thousands, and just to catch you, they would sacrifice a thousand lives for the ritual, that demon Sangdian, may he die a horrible death!” Yingtong shouted wrathfully, while the once-comatose Chu Hai finally opened his eyes, but when he saw Jiang Yichun’s group, the anxiety caused his Qi Blood to stir violently, leading him to faint once more.
