Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1187: Chapter 1189: It’s the Second Brother Who is Useless_1

Indeed, two days later, Jiang Yichun caught up with them. When he appeared, he was dressed in black, wearing a black cloak with a hood that covered most of his face, almost leading everyone to mistake him for an assassin coming to attack.

”Master Jiang, are you alright?” Muyu asked, slightly excited by his side.

Unfortunately, Jiang Yichun had eyes only for one person, as if the only person in the world was the woman he had longed for. He dashed over and wrapped his arms around Bai Ruozhu.

Xiu Cuicui was sitting next to Bai Ruozhu, eating. The audacious move by the unfamiliar man who suddenly appeared startled her, and she covered her mouth with her hand. But soon, she realized this was her mistress’s husband and couldn’t help but feel envious.

The man’s gaze was fervent, urgent, like a fire that could burn someone to ashes, yet it only reflected the image of Bai Ruozhu. This must be what it looks like to truly love someone, right?

She never saw such a look in Weng An’s eyes when he looked at her. How had she not realized that before?

”Ruozhu, I’ve worried you,” Jiang Yichun said softly, his chin resting on the top of Bai Ruozhu’s head.

Bai Ruozhu’s body trembled slightly. Even though they had just met two days ago, her worry and longing for him had only intensified; she feared something might happen to him on his journey, worried about his internal injuries not being fully healed, and feared he might fall into another ambush. It wasn’t until this moment that her heart finally settled down.

”It’s good that you’re unharmed,” Bai Ruozhu managed to say, every other thought converging into that single sentence.

Muyu gaped in astonishment and soon, his expression turned to one of hurt. He muttered softly, ”Is my master angry with me?”

Chen Feng gave him a dismissive glance, ”Could you be any less tactful?”

Muyu suddenly realized his mistake, covered his mouth, and stepped back. Unfortunately, their conversation still reached Bai Ruozhu’s ears. She then remembered there were so many people around. Her face flushed with embarrassment, she pushed Jiang Yichun gently and glared at him reproachfully, ”There are people watching, stop fooling around.”

Jiang Yichun chuckled softly; his wife was shy.

He finally let go of Bai Ruozhu, greeted everyone, and seeing that he and his wife had much to talk about, everyone found an excuse to leave. Jiang Yichun pulled Bai Ruozhu upstairs, and as soon as they entered the guest room, he pinned her against the wall and kissed her...

After the storm, both lay on the bed exhausted, with him playing with a strand of her hair, ”Tell me about your journey.”

He already had a fair amount of information from Elder Jiang Ge, but he still wanted to hear her tell it in her own words. It wasn’t the first time she had risked danger to save him.

Bai Ruozhu recounted what Tang Feng had reminded her of and added, ”I promised Tang Feng I wouldn’t expose him, so when I went to the palace for an audience, I said I dreamt of you in danger calling out for me to save you. The Emperor initially didn’t believe me, so I had to claim that my medical skills were taught to me by a fairy in my dreams. Only then did he send someone to check again and find out that your troop was nearly annihilated.”

Jiang Yichun’s face darkened, ”We were indeed careless this time.”

Bai Ruozhu’s heart tightened, ”Will the Emperor punish you? After all, Jiao Bingqin was also found by you, won’t the Emperor suspect you?”

He saw the worried look in her eyes and tenderly reached out to smooth the lines of her forehead, saying with a smile, ”Probably not. Jiao Bingqin wasn’t discovered by me, but by the Emperor’s confidant. It was also the Emperor’s wish to arrange her return with me to the Capital. I was simply following orders.”

Bai Ruozhu sighed with relief. Although Jiang Yichun thought the Emperor was a good person, valuing loyalty, she always felt the Emperor was cunning and quite ruthless. There’s a saying that serving a monarch is like living with a tiger, and she thought it best to remain cautious.

Afterward, Bai Ruozhu recounted the various events that had occurred, including her kidnapping en route, subsequent escape, receipt of the Imperial Decree to return to the Capital City, and then coming back again, et cetera.

When the matter of Guoguo came up, Jiang Yichun hugged her tightly and said with heartfelt concern, ”I know you appear resolute on the outside, but inside your heart is the softest. However, this is not your fault. If we trace the source, it’s only that those people were too malicious, and the doctor should not have saved that assassin.”

”I have already decided to take Guoguo as my apprentice; he has been temporarily arranged to recuperate in a manor in the Suburb of the Capital. Once this matter is over, I will bring him back to the Bai Residence,” Bai Ruozhu said.

”Good, whatever you want to do, I will support you,” he said as he touched her head.

However, she lifted her hand and gave him a knock on the forehead, ”I don’t dare to support whatever you do indiscriminately. The same words as before, you can’t keep things from me in the future.”

Jiang Yichun rubbed his forehead and bore a doting smile, ”Alright, but you have to pretend not to know many things even if you do because it’s not good for you and your family.”

Bai Ruozhu nodded, knowing the weight of his words, even if Jiang Yichun did not say them.

With no further words that night, the next day, everyone continued their journey. Jiang Yichun had the audacity to find another horse carriage and sent Xiu Cuicui, who was in the same carriage as Bai Ruozhu, over to it while he rode back to the Capital City with Bai Ruozhu in the carriage.

Upon reaching the suburbs, Bai Ruozhu had people take Xiu Cuicui to the manor outside the city, saying she would come to see her in a couple of days and also asked her to help look after Guoguo in the meantime.

Xiu Cuicui, having lost all her inner strength, had become much calmer, and no longer resembled a Jianghu woman, instead looking like a common civilian girl.

Jiang Yichun then took Bai Ruozhu back to the Bai Residence and immediately proceeded to the Palace to report to the Emperor. He had not returned even after the lamps were lit.

Because of the safe return of the two, the Bai Family was especially happy. Originally Lin Ping’er was arranging a festive meal for the family, but with Jiang Yichun’s continued absence, a shadow was cast over the Bai Family again.

”Could Xiaojiang have been punished by the Emperor?” Bai Yihong anxiously paced the room. If he could enter the Palace, he would likely have gone to find Jiang Yichun by now.

Bai Ruozhu was also anxious inside, but she did not want her family to worry more. She forced a small smile and said, ”No, Achun has been familiar with the Emperor since childhood, how could he be easily punished by him? Maybe because he encountered danger this time, the Emperor is concerned about him and has kept him for a meal. Let’s not wait, let’s eat first.”

Lin Ping’er felt uneasy, ”Let’s wait another quarter of an hour.”

So the Bai Family waited another quarter of an hour, but Jiang Yichun still had not returned, and they proceeded to eat their dinner.

After the meal, Bai Ruozhu, carrying Little Dengdeng, intended to return to the Yard. Bai Zepei followed and said, ”Little sister, let your second brother accompany you for a walk.”

Bai Ruozhu nodded, ”What has happened at home these past few days? Parents are afraid of worrying me, and they surely only share good news and withhold the bad. You should tell me instead.”

Bai Zepei shook his head and said, ”Nothing major happened, it’s just that the Virtuous King has been hounding about Elder Jiang Ge, accusing both you and Achun of being unfilial for leaving the Capital City. He even had the Imperial Censors impeach you several times, but fortunately, all were suppressed by the Emperor.”

”The Virtuous King really is idle and meddling,” Bai Ruozhu huffed discontentedly.

”Little sister, it’s because your second brother is useless, all the household burdens have fallen on your shoulders...” Bai Zepei suddenly stopped walking, his expression turning somewhat despondent as he spoke.
