Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 1160: Chapter 1162: The Imperial Decree Cannot Be Defied_1

”Is there a way for the young master to restore his sanity and then interrogate him for information?” As a group of people, along with the senseless patient, left the village, Lü seemed to see hope and asked.

Bai Ruozhu shook his head and said, ”If I had a way, there would be no need to rush those seven men back to Capital City. Part of the reason for doing this is to take the person back for a thorough investigation, and it might also create the illusion that we have already rescued Achun; we can even wait for the enemy to come to us.”

A look of admiration flashed in Lü’s eyes, ”The young master is indeed thorough in his thinking.”

...

In a run-down yard, a girl dressed like a farmer’s daughter was staring blankly at the patient lying on the bed. She propped her chin with both hands, her head tilted slightly, making her look exceptionally cute.

”Who do you think you are? How did you get so badly injured? You can’t be a notorious criminal wanted by the Imperial Court, can you?” The girl spoke to the unconscious man, but got no response, leaving her to answer her questions herself.

”Impossible, how can there be a criminal who looks so handsome? Someone nasty must have harmed you.” The girl laughed, her expression filled with certainty.

A middle-aged man in the yard glanced into the room, a smile on his face as he muttered, ”A girl grown is a girl gone.”

Before long, the man cooked a bowl of medicine soup and brought it into the room, only to see the girl still staring at the patient. He couldn’t help but clear his throat to get her attention back.

”Dad, why did you suddenly scare me like that? I almost yelled out loud. If I disturbed the patient, how bad would that be?” The girl complained discontentedly.

The man glared at her and said, ”Even if you shouted into his ears, he wouldn’t wake up. Besides, what difference would it make if you woke him up? If it weren’t you who saved him from the river, he’d already have become a water ghost by now.”

The girl, at a loss for words, puffed up with annoyance and glare at the man, ”I can’t win against you, I don’t feel like arguing.”

The man wasn’t annoyed; he smiled again, his eyes gleaming mischievously as he asked, ”Dad sees you quite fond of him. Why don’t we make him our son-in-law?”

”What are you talking about, Dad? I won’t marry him!” The girl’s face turned bright red.

The man chuckled, ”Don’t play coy with dad. If it wasn’t for unlucky circumstances, who could have saved him? It’s boring for us to live in seclusion here; finding you a brought-in son-in-law would be rather good.”

”That would still require his willingness,” she said softly.

”I saved his life; he should be willing even if he’s not,” the man exclaimed.

After saying that, he helped the patient sit up and then forcefully poured the medicine soup down his throat.

That night, the patient began to run a fever, which greatly upset the girl.

”Ruozhu, Ruozhu...” The patient kept calling out a name, and the girl leaned in close to listen and finally understood.

”Dad!” the girl screamed, ”He keeps calling out a woman’s name; could it be that he’s already married?”

The man glanced at the girl irritably, ”So what? I, the Ghost Doctor, saved his life, and he must agree to one thing. When the time comes, let him divorce his wife and marry you.”

The girl was conflicted, ”Isn’t that a bit wrong?”

The man ignored the girl, and after a while, she seemed to come to terms with it.

...

A Shadow Guard approached rapidly and appeared before Lü, handing him a sealed letter.

”Sir, an urgent encrypted letter from the Capital.”

The solemn expression on his face grew heavier as he opened the letter and quickly read through it, but he suddenly handed the letter to Bai Ruozhu beside him.

Bai Ruozhu glanced at the letter, her face turned extremely unsightly in an instant.

”Young master, the imperial command cannot be defied,” reminded Lu by his side.

Jianqi and the other two came over for a look, and finally saw the content written on it:

The Concubine Le has fallen unconscious, order Bai Ruozhu to return immediately.

Muyu became instantly anxious, ”There are imperial doctors in the palace, how can we go back now? What about my master?”

Chenfeng, on the other hand, was relatively calm. He pulled Muyu aside, ”Shut your mouth, don’t make it difficult for the lady.”

Bai Ruozhu bit her lips tightly, feeling extremely irritated at the moment. Her man was missing, possibly gravely wounded, from serving the emperor, and yet she was now required to return to the Capital to treat the emperor’s woman, so much for the ’imperial command cannot be defied’!

”Are there no doctors left in the Capital? Isn’t there the Medical Saint, or Master Yao? Even if they can’t determine the cause, there are the National Master and his disciples. Why must I be the one to go back?” Bai Ruozhu asked angrily.

Lu looked troubled, as he was also on Wucang Mountain; how would he know why?

”I don’t care, give me three more days. If there’s still no way after three days, I’ll rush back to the Capital day and night,” Bai Ruozhu said, although also worried about Concubine Le’s safety. However, everyone has their own closeness and priorities; what she cared about most at this moment was Jiang Yichun.

Unexpectedly, just as she finished speaking, she felt a pain in her neck and her consciousness began to fade away.

Before she passed out, she remembered a particular pattern drawn at the bottom of the secret edict. At first, she thought it was just the emblem of the secret order, but at that moment, she understood that the pattern was a signal to Lu that if she resisted the decree, they were to forcibly take her back.

Unfortunately, she had been careless, not guarding against Lu.

Jianqi reacted the fastest, catching Bai Ruozhu as she fainted while his other hand lashed out at Lu, ”What are you trying to do?”

Chenfeng and Muyu quickly surrounded Lu, and for a moment, both sides were on the verge of pulling their weapons on each other, about to start a civil conflict.

”The emperor has instructed that if she doesn’t return, she is to be brought back by force. You are her guards, but you can’t watch your master defy the decree, can you?” Lu retreated quickly, avoiding Jianqi’s attack.

Jianqi paused upon hearing this, considering from his master’s perspective; perhaps being forcefully taken back would be easier for her to bear, sparing her the painful choice.

”What about our master then? Does nobody care about our master’s safety?” Muyu exclaimed.

”Jianqi and I will escort Lady Jiang back to the Capital; the rest of you continue searching for Lord Jiang,” Lu replied.

Muyu was still dissatisfied, but Chenfeng held him back and whispered, ”If the lord knew, he would not want the lady to defy the command for his sake, nor would he want her to incur the death penalty.”

”The death penalty? Even the emperor can’t be unreasonable!” Muyu shouted indignantly.

Chenfeng glared at him, ”Mind your words and actions; things are chaotic enough as it is.”

The atmosphere among the troops was extremely tense. Lu glanced at Jianqi and said, ”We must set off immediately. Take your master with you. If you truly care for her, persuade her to hurry back to the palace.”

Jianqi said nothing, but the look he gave Lu was filled with murderous intent, as if to say that one day he would certainly repay the blow Lu had struck on their master.

Lu scoffed, ”You are indeed very loyal.”

Jianqi helped Bai Ruozhu onto the horse carriage and said flatly, ”I cannot compare to Team Leader Lu.”
