Rebirth: General, Don't Mess Around!

Xia Jinyuan put away his phone, and even the tenderness at the corners of his eyes completely dissipated. He glanced indifferently at Xia Yunyin, who became visibly uneasy, ”What... what kind of expression is that? Don’t tell me, you had a fight? No, that’s not right; the way you were just now, like you’re on an aphrodisiac, it didn’t seem like a fight at all.”

”Little Six, today I was severely lectured by grandma, so don’t you scare me. I’m faint-hearted and can’t take fright!”

This concerned Little Six’s lifelong happiness and the pressure on him as an elder brother was immense. He was terrified of inadvertently ruining Little Six’s chance at a happy marriage.

After a long while, Xia Jinyuan finally let out a cold ”Hmph,” ”Fifth brother, keep those ideas to yourself and your girlfriend. Who tries, who knows.”

”How are things at the horse ranch? Are we still going tomorrow?”

His Little Fox liked horse riding and shooting; as for shopping, she really had no interest in it.

Upon hearing that nothing was amiss, Xia Yunyin instantly felt a sense of relief, as if he had eaten a heart-calming pill, ”The day after tomorrow, let’s go the day after tomorrow. Tomorrow I will have someone tidy up the horse ranch well and straighten out the shooting range thoroughly, and we will go over again the day after.”

”I’ll also invite some friends, all from the social circles of the capital city. It’s good for you and your sister-in-law to meet and get to know them.”

Just as Xia Jinyuan was about to agree, he suddenly became vigilant, ”Is there a reason for this?”

A family outing wouldn’t cause the fifth brother to invite friends from his circle in the capital city for no reason. The friends from the capital city weren’t ordinary friends; each one was either rich or noble.

”This afternoon, I had two friends call me, saying their mothers had just been inquiring about the Xia family, especially mentioning Little Six. My friends were alert and probed further, and, lo and behold, they found out that my former aunt has been out playing the victim again.”

”Now, most of the ladies in the circle know Little Six as the scoundrel who disowns his biological mother. I tell you, Little Six, that mother of yours really can’t stay out of trouble. She schemed against me a few years back, and when that failed, she kept quiet for a while only to stir up trouble again. Your days, I’m afraid, won’t be too peaceful.”

With a mother holding you back, how can your days be peaceful?

On hearing this, a fierce rage filled Xia Jinyuan’s eyes, darker than the night itself, but soon he regained his composure, ”There’s more to this. Madam Xiao is now trying to recognize me; she wouldn’t do anything that would put her at a disadvantage.”

”Are you saying someone is taking this opportunity to make trouble?” A chill came over Xia Yunyin’s handsome face, and the once cheerful man suddenly revealed a ruthless side only seen in the business world, ”I’ll investigate. Once I find out, I’ll take good care of them.”

”Fifth brother, there’s no need to investigate. I’ll meet with your friends tomorrow and see, oh, and do any of your friends happen to be married? If so, please invite their wives over as well.”

Xia Jinyuan didn’t want to drag Xia Yunyin into the mess. He already had an idea of who was behind the trouble.

”You have a lead? Can you handle it yourself?” Xia Yunyin sensed what was left unsaid, feeling somewhat reassured.

”Mm, one who is not very easy to deal with, but also poses no significant threat. The waters are somewhat deep, and as a businessman, you are not suited to get involved.”

Xia Jinyuan hinted just enough.

”Alright, as long as you’re confident.” The hint was enough for Xia Yunyin to understand that the matter was beyond his means to solve. He was capable, but it wasn’t appropriate for him to step in.

As for what Xia Jinyuan requested, Xia Yunyin could guarantee with assurance. In the capital city, what he had the most was friends: those related to business, mere acquaintances, a few genuine ones, and several who had grown up together and were now successful in their own right. Xia Jinyuan could bring as many friends as he wished to the gathering; Xia Yunyin could arrange that many friends to attend.
