The Female CEO's Personal Bodyguard

”Only a ghost would want to be his daughter-in-law.”

Kaelithra Nixon stood up quickly, as if pricked by a hedgehog: ”I’m here to represent Grand Void Mountain to pay respects, not to participate in a matchmaking!”

Carson Flores chuckled maliciously: ”Well, it’s not up to you if they like you. As parents, when they see someone outstanding, of course they want to bring them into their family. Speaking of which, Othric Whitmore is also a son of a wealthy family. You are the Disciple of True Sage, which means you’re a perfect match...”

”Shut up!”

Kaelithra Nixon punched Carson Flores’s arm, exasperated: ”Aren’t we friends? I’m already like this, and you’re still gloating here. You’re so heartless!”

Carson Flores laughed: ”I’m just stating the facts. The man hasn’t married, the woman hasn’t wed, there’s no harm in knowing each other. Who knows, maybe he’s the right one. Unless you plan to remain single forever, it’s not such a bad thing.”

Kaelithra Nixon glared at Carson Flores: ”If you want to marry, you marry!”

Carson Flores shrugged, laughed: ”You better go out now, they’re waiting for you.”

Kaelithra Nixon reluctantly took a few steps, then turned back: ”Come with me.”

Carson Flores shook his head like a drum: ”No, don’t drag me into this. If things go wrong, they’ll probably think I’m up to mischief, and then they’re going to hate me too. It’s just asking for trouble.”

Kaelithra Nixon pouted: ”I already introduced you as a promising talent admired by my master. Who dares to give you trouble?”

Carson Flores waved his hand decisively: ”Kaelithra, spare me. I’ve played the decoy plenty of times before, and it never ends well, so it’s not that I don’t want to help, but I’m really not suitable to be involved in this matter.”

”True Sage and Sect Leader are on good terms, so the Sect Leader is well-intentioned. It’s no bad thing. You meet him. If you don’t like him, just say so. It won’t hurt the feelings. But if I get involved, things could easily go awry.”

Kaelithra Nixon listened to Carson Flores and didn’t insist, pouting as she walked out, then turned back after a few steps: ”Tell me about your decoy stories later.”

Carson Flores just hoped not to get involved, so he agreed without hesitation: ”Alright, as long as you don’t ask for my help in this, I’ll tell you.”

Kaelithra Nixon walked out and returned soon, looking distressed.

Carson Flores sat in the chair, smiling at her: ”Why the long face? Wasn’t he good-looking?”

Kaelithra Nixon shook her head: ”Speaking of looks, he’s quite handsome.”

Carson Flores laughed: ”Then what’s the deal? Your face says you’re resisting...”

Kaelithra Nixon thought for a moment: ”Something feels off. He’s too enthusiastic, enthusiastically fake. It doesn’t feel like genuine warmth, but rather courteous politeness.”

Carson Flores comforted her: ”You’re the guest, and he’s the host. At his father’s command, whether he wants to or not, he’d have to come over. How did your talk go?”

Kaelithra Nixon replied: ”Didn’t talk much. He just came to say hello, told me to rest well today, and tomorrow he’ll take me for a tour, saying there are fun places nearby. I couldn’t even refuse; it’s so annoying!”

Carson Flores blinked: ”Do you think he’s completing a task given by his father, or does he himself have thoughts about you?”

Kaelithra Nixon thought some more: ”We met too briefly; it’s hard to say. But, as I mentioned, his enthusiasm feels too excessive, making me feel uncomfortable.”

Carson Flores chuckled: ”I can’t help you with this. You’ve got to fend for yourself. Take a walk with him tomorrow. If you truly aren’t interested, find an excuse and decline, just don’t meet again.”

Kaelithra Nixon furrowed her brows, annoyed: ”These things are so frustrating.”

After pausing, Kaelithra Nixon looked up and asked Carson Flores: ”You have a Pathist couple, right?”

Carson Flores nodded: ”Yes.”

Kaelithra Nixon asked: ”How did you and your Pathist couple meet?”

Carson Flores assumed she referred to Shirley Miller, since Shirley was his legal wife, officially recognized.

”We got together through our parents’ arrangement. We were quite unfamiliar at first, but after going through a lot together, feelings developed over time. Yes, in that sense, we were lucky.”

Kaelithra Nixon blinked: ”Were you embarrassed at first?”

Carson Flores recalled how he and Shirley Miller started out, finding it amusing: ”Embarrassed? Of course, it was embarrassing. The elders directly put us together, forcing us to stay in the same room at night. But we had no emotional foundation, so one of us slept on the bed, and the other on the floor...”

”Just imagine, two unfamiliar people, only having met a couple of days prior, sleeping in the same room yet feeling quite strange; how could it not be awkward?”
