The Female CEO's Personal Bodyguard

Chapter 979: Chapter 979: I’d Rather Die Than Bow Down!

Looking at the undead’s bones, already an eerie blood-red color, Carson Flores could roughly guess the terrifying level of this undead.

If it weren’t for the Death Imprint he now possessed to shield his life fluctuations, perhaps it wouldn’t have been perplexed, but would have charged over and torn him to pieces.

He had indeed gained the Death Imprint at just the right time!

Such a terrifyingly powerful Undead Guard in such a secluded passage, then surely the others must have them too?

Franklin Wyatt and the others had retreated into the mountain belly, ignited the Blood Light, causing the undead and demonic beasts’ agitation. Clearly, they intended to use the mountain belly’s guards, along with the outside undead and demonic beasts, to eliminate all attackers in one fell swoop!

The enormous undead glanced a few times in the direction of Carson Flores, eventually turned its head away, and lay down like a dog peacefully keeping watch.

Carson Flores secretly let out a sigh of relief, scared to death, even sweating on his forehead.

He tiptoed past this undead guard and continued forward.

He hadn’t walked far before he saw human skeletons, but the skeletons were all incomplete, apparently torn apart by the undead guards here.

With the Death Imprint protecting him, Carson Flores felt much more emboldened and continued onward.

Along the way, Carson Flores encountered another three or four undead guards, each different in kind, but similar in that their bones were all blood-red, all carrying an immensely fierce and formidable aura, and their bodies were massive, showcasing their power.

Some were stationary, while others wandered back and forth in the caves. If anyone intruded, they definitely couldn’t escape their perception.

Carson Flores was an exception.

The cave became increasingly wide, and Carson Flores suddenly stopped, his gaze questioning as he surveyed his surroundings.

Huge sword scars, massive craters...

Traces of a battle!

Carson Flores recalled the several guards he had just seen, only to find that they all bore various wounds, like the first one, whose wing had been half-chopped off.

Who were the intruders?

So strong!

To be able to injure these incredibly powerful Undead Guards, it seemed there truly were many strong beings who wanted to explore the secrets of the Valley of Death.

Carson Flores walked a distance further, then stopped again.

In the vast space, it was filled with solid Profound Ice, emitting a bone-chilling cold air.

Carson Flores scanned around and found no abnormalities, then prepared to continue forward.

”Wait...”

A low call suddenly entered Carson Flores’s ears, making him stop abruptly, his gaze warily looking around.

”Don’t be afraid, I’m in the Profound Ice...”

Carson Flores’s gaze, surprised, fell upon the thick Profound Ice, and vaguely, deep within the ice, there seemed to be a faint human figure.

Carson Flores quietly asked, ”Are you human?”

”I’m Erik Jackson. How did you come in here? Why aren’t those Undead Guards attacking you?”

Jackson?

Carson Flores was greatly shocked. This was one of the ancient surnames, an existence from ten thousand years ago, which had long since perished in the river of history, no longer existing.

Another powerful being from ten thousand years ago?

Carson Flores asked softly, ”The ancient Jackson Family?”

”Ancient?”

The old voice, weak and intermittent: ”I sealed myself within the Profound Ice, and my sense of time is not accurate, but it must have been a few thousand years... You said ancient... Does the Jackson Family no longer exist?”

He really was from the Jackson Family!

Carson Flores felt both excited and strange. Outside, he had encountered Malia Salinas of the Hail Family, Finlay Murphy of the Murphy Family, and now Erik Jackson of the Jackson Family. One by one, individuals from the ancient families were appearing, and it seemed there really was a great secret here.

”Not only the Jackson Family, but nearly all the Ancient Eight Great Families have disappeared. Perhaps there are still descendants in the world, but they are not widely known. It has been over ten thousand years since the Ancient Eight Great Families were in power...”

”Ah!”

The old voice sighed, filled with loss: ”Ten thousand years, I’ve actually sealed myself here for ten thousand years...”

Carson Flores tentatively asked, ”I’ve seen Malia Salinas of the ancient Hail Family serving as a guard here outside. It seems you’re not one of the guards, so why seal yourself here?”

Erik Jackson’s voice was weak, yet his words carried undiminished bravado: ”I, Erik Jackson, dominated my era, defying the world. Even if an Immortal ordered me to bow, I would rather die!”

Immortal!

Carson Flores, eager, asked: ”What about Malia Salinas, Franklin Wyatt, and the others?”

Erik Jackson’s voice carried undisguised contempt: ”To seek immortality, they gave up their selves, became Immortal Slaves, enslaved by Immortals. They completely disgraced their families!”

Immortal Slaves!

Carson Flores finally heard a new term and immediately asked curiously, ”So are they considered Immortals?”

”Yes, and no!”

Erik Jackson’s voice was indifferent: ”They are indeed considered Immortals, but they have not truly ascended to the Immortal Realm, and strictly speaking, they can only be considered Demi Immortals. They have the long lifespans of Immortals, but they lack the corresponding strength of Immortals. Otherwise, they would be Immortals themselves, so why would they be called Immortal Slaves, and why would their master let slaves be stronger than themselves?”
