I Became the Villain Alpha's Omega (BL)

The High Priest stood near the grand archway leading out of the temple, his golden-trimmed robes stirring in the afternoon breeze. He still looked mildly bewildered and concerned, but he kept his usual calm, polite expression as the three of them approached.

”Lord Cherion,” the High Priest greeted, inclining his head with quiet courtesy. ”I am most relieved to see that you have returned to us unharmed. When I learned that you had gone missing within the temple and that no one could determine where you had gone, I confess I was quite concerned.”

He offered Cherion a gentle smile. ”Still, I hope your time here has not left you with an unfavorable impression of our temple. Should you ever find yourself in need of a quiet place for prayer, reflection, or simply a moment away from the affairs of the court, you need only return. You shall always be received with courtesy, and you will always be welcome beneath this roof.”

”Thank you, Your Holiness,” Cherion replied, forcing a polite smile and dipping his head in return. ”I’ll... keep that in mind. And thank you for the journal.”

Beside him, Zarius didn’t say much. He offered the High Priest a stiff, formal nod of respect, the bare minimum required of a northern Duke, before guiding Cherion out into the bright courtyard. Marielle walked a step behind them, her hands tucked behind her back, throwing occasional amused glances at Cherion’s dusty clothes.

As they made their way toward the awaiting carriage, Zarius kept a firm, protective grip on Cherion’s waist. He could feel the slight tremor in Cherion’s frame, the way his fingers clutched the worn leather journal against his ribs like a lifeline. It was obvious Cherion had stumbled into something far bigger than a simple wrong turn, but Zarius didn’t press. He said nothing, letting Cherion have the silence he needed to calm his breathing.

The carriage ride back to the residence was unusually quiet. Marielle, sensing the heavy atmosphere between the two, refrained from making her usual teasing remarks and spent most of the trip staring out the window at the passing capital streets.

When the carriage finally pulled into the courtyard of their residence, Cherion was the first one out. He stepped onto the cobblestones, took a deep breath of the familiar air, and turned to Zarius.

”Zarius,” Cherion said, his voice dropping into a low, serious register. ”Can we talk? In private?”

Zarius looked down at him, taking in the intense, unwavering look in Cherion’s eyes. During the time they’d spent together, Zarius had seen Cherion flustered, annoyed, exhausted, and playful. But he had never seen him look like this. The usual lightness in his posture was entirely gone, replaced by a severe, heavy resolve.

”Of course,” Zarius said smoothly.

They walked up the grand staircase and headed straight for the private bedchamber. Marielle gave them a subtle wave before wandering off toward the side gardens, leaving them entirely to themselves.

The moment the thick bedroom door clicked shut behind them, the silence in the room felt heavy enough to bruise. Cherion walked over to the small tea table near the window, carefully setting the observation journal down on the wood. He unbuttoned his dust-stained coat, tossed it onto a nearby chair, and ran both hands through his messy hair, letting out a long, ragged exhale.

Zarius remained standing near the center of the room, his long arms resting casually at his sides, his eyes tracking Cherion’s every movement.

”You look remarkably serious,” Zarius noted, his voice low and grounded. ”I don’t think I’ve ever seen you quite this grave.”

Cherion turned around, leaning his lower back against the edge of the tea table. He looked up at Zarius, biting the inside of his cheek for a brief second before speaking.

”Because I need to talk to you about something extremely serious,” Cherion said flatly. ”If I act like my usual self, you’re going to think I’m making a bad joke or having a mental breakdown.”

Zarius’s brows twitched slightly, but his expression remained entirely calm. He took two slow steps forward, closing the distance between them until he was standing just a arm’s length away.

”Alright,” Zarius said, his tone softening with genuine warmth. ”I am listening. What is it?”

Cherion swallowed hard, his heart hammering against his ribs like a trapped bird. He stared at the dark fabric of Zarius’s tunic, struggling to find the right words. How was he supposed to say this? How could anyone say this without sounding completely insane?

”Actually, I...” Cherion started, his voice wavering just a fraction before he caught himself. ”God... do you actually trust me? Like, truly trust me? Because what I’m about to tell you sounds completely impossible. If you think I’ve lost my mind, I won’t even blame you.”

Zarius didn’t hesitate for a single second. He reached out, his large, warm palm resting gently over the side of Cherion’s neck, his thumb lightly stroking his jawline. The steady, grounded heat of his touch immediately cut through the cold panic swirling in Cherion’s gut.

”Cherion,” Zarius said, his eyes locking onto Cherion’s with absolute, unshakeable sincerity. ”There is no reason in this world for me to doubt you. Whatever it is, say it. I am listening.”

Cherion closed his eyes for a split second, taking a deep, steadying breath. He let the air out slowly, feeling the weight of the secret he had carried alone ever since waking up in this strange, unpredictable body. He had kept the truth to himself, dodged questions whenever they came up, and thought carefully before saying anything in a world that wasn’t his own.

He opened his eyes, looking straight into Zarius’s patient gaze.

”I’m not...” Cherion began, his voice quiet, clear, and steady. ”I’m not the Cherion you’re supposed to know. I’m not from here, Zarius. I came from a completely different place.”

The words hung in the quiet bedroom, heavy and absurd in the warm afternoon sunlight. Cherion braced himself for the inevitable, the sharp knit of Zarius’s brows, the look of profound confusion, or the gentle, pitying concern reserved for someone who had hit their head too hard during a fall through a temple wall.

Instead, Zarius just stared at him. His large hand remained warm and steady against Cherion’s neck, his expression completely unfazed, as if Cherion had simply stated that the sky was blue.

A faint smile tugged at the corner of Zarius’s lips.

”I know it, Cherion. I always know.”
