Chapter 487: Chapter 148: The True Mastermind Behind the Scenes

”Sorry, I can’t tell you what’s inside, but you can touch it yourself...” the attendant said with a smile.

Her face split open.

Wen Xishu knew that Deceit Tower would create some terrifying elements, but it wouldn’t create them randomly.

Most likely, this female attendant had been caught in the crossfire in a carriage full of strange people. She died a gruesome death.

Wen Xishu was puzzled:

”You don’t know what’s inside the carriage either?”

The female attendant smiled:

”There might be something inside that interests you. It can help you through specific carriages, but exactly what it is, you’ll have to find out yourself~”

”Some things are very dangerous and will cause you some harm, but in certain hopeless situations, they are the only solution.”

”However, you’ll have to figure out which items are appropriate for which scenarios by yourself.”

Wen Xishu seemed to understand a bit.

Puzzles.

You could think of the upcoming carriages as each being a puzzle with a missing piece.

All these puzzle pieces were piled up in this small cart covered with a white cloth.

You could, like a blind man feeling an elephant, choose certain items from the small cart...

But what these items are for, and which level they belong to, you’d have to guess by yourself.

Some items are quite sinister and carrying them is inherently dangerous.

But overall, the female attendant is very crucial, she’s the kind of NPC that provides items.

Such an NPC is usually not a villain. This made Wen Xishu certain that there were no other twists with the female attendant.

Wen Xishu said:

”What’s the price?”

The smile on the female attendant’s face gradually faded:

”If you survive... or if you have the chance to go to that world, I hope you... can save me.”

”But if you die~ you’ll become one of the passengers.”

Wen Xishu said:

”So, are there other people like me who have become passengers?”

The female attendant shook her head:

”They haven’t even seen me.”

Wen Xishu understood.

The vortex had swallowed many people, causing the scale of the vortex to grow larger.

But most of these people were like the sealed phones in Carriage 03.5...

Being sealed meant they were unable to communicate.

Only those in Row Seventeen, like Xiaojin who remained in Carriage 01, could still communicate.

Unfortunately, those people had recklessly gone to Carriage 02 and were likely devoured by other eerie entities.

They never even encountered the attendant.

Wen Xishu guessed that the attendant probably wouldn’t appear in the front carriages.

For example, Carriages 02 and 03. Players had to pass through two carriages without items and obtain the Good and Evil Cards before they could interact with the female attendant.

Wen Xishu said:

”Alright, thank you very much for your help. If I can leave alive, or... if I can get the invitation, I will find a way to change everything.”

”I guess you can’t tell me who the mastermind is, can you?”

The female attendant’s face turned fearful. She immediately shook her head:

”Please... please don’t ask that question.”

Wen Xishu sighed lightly.

She was just an ordinary girl who didn’t want to get married, didn’t want to have kids, she simply wanted to make money and be self-sufficient.

Probably the most normal person in the whole carriage. Maybe that’s why she was arranged to play the role of assisting the players.

Because she didn’t have many perverted thoughts, it was hard to turn her into something bizarre.

Or maybe her obsession was simply to survive. Though she was dead, she desired for someone to leave with her help...

However, even so, this carriage wasn’t completely without danger.

Wen Xishu could smell the stench of decay and could sense that there were many dangerous items in the small cart.

”How many items can I take?”

”You can only take one item.” The female attendant’s smile returned.

Wen Xishu confirmed again:

”I can’t uncover this white cloth?”

The female attendant nodded:

”Yes.”

Wen Xishu understood everything. He could only uncover a bit and let his hand reach into the small cart.

Whatever he grabbed was whatever he got...

Some of the items might even be alive because the white cloth covering the small cart was clearly moving.

Wen Xishu thought of an ancient punishment.

It was making someone put their hand into a jar full of poisonous creatures.

The jar was filled with scorpions, centipedes, poisonous toads, and various poisonous insects.

Whether you’d be bitten and by what, all depended on luck. It wasn’t particularly cruel... but the fear of the unknown could easily break a criminal’s psychological defense.

Wen Xishu felt very conflicted at this moment.

His hand was already inside. His expression was serious because he was thinking.

”I’m guessing the questions with the answer in hand. I have two chances. I can tag the female attendant with a Good card in Carriage 08... so I can meet her again.”

”Now, knowing the upcoming carriages will have various eerie scenarios...”

”And the item I grab can respond to these scenarios. So I can deduce the rules of these scenarios based on the item I grab...”

Wen Xishu thought, at worst, he would feel all the items...

But quickly, the female attendant said:

”You have one minute left.”

Wen Xishu had a feeling. It seemed he couldn’t touch all the items in one go.

He quickly felt a stack of paper, somewhat soft and moist because it had been soaked in blood. The blood came from other objects.

Wen Xishu thought of talismans.

Could it be that besides drinking tea, there is another way to deal with the old man... by using other talismans?
