She Came to Heal, Stayed to Conquer

Han Lei pointed at the small circles drawn on each side of the bastion in the diagram, and began to explain to them.

”These circles are called machine gun ports, with one set up every twenty meters. Machine guns can replace bows and crossbows for continuous shooting. Moreover, their range is greater than that of bows and crossbows.”

Everyone gathered around her, their gazes following her finger as it moved over the blueprint, faces full of puzzlement.

Li Erniu scratched his head and couldn’t help asking, ”Machine gun ports? What are those? Are they more powerful than the guns Mr. Xiao and the others have?”

A couple of days ago, when Xiao Zhengfei and the others dealt with Li Gang, without seeing them draw bows and shoot arrows, they managed to injure all of Li Gang’s personal soldiers. The scene was deeply imprinted in their minds.

Such a scene of the enemy being defeated without a fight was already terrifying in their understanding. Now, hearing Han Lei say there were even more powerful weapons, they all immediately gaped in astonishment.

Han Lei smiled slightly, ”Of course, they are powerful! Mr. Xiao and the others’ pistols and rifles can only shoot one bullet at a time, but machine guns can fire bullets continuously; the firing speed is fast, the power is great, and the range far exceeds that of bows and arrows. For instance, the maximum effective range of the Type 80 general-purpose machine gun is fifteen hundred meters, which is equivalent to hitting a target at over ten times the range of a hundred-paces.”

”Hiss!”

Hearing this range, everyone gasped in astonishment.

Han Lei paused, seeing that everyone was still in a state of amazed bewilderment. She realized that explaining it this way might not make them understand, so she took out her phone from her pocket.

”I have a video here on machine guns firing; once you watch it, you’ll understand.”

She quickly tapped on her phone a few times, and a demonstration video began to play on the screen.

In the video, the machine gun spat fire, bullets poured out like raindrops, and distant targets were instantly riddled with holes.

Everyone was stunned and speechless for a long while, with their mouths hanging open.

Li Erniu swallowed and murmured, ”This...this is too powerful! In comparison, a bow and arrow is like a child’s toy!”

”Yes, if this is used on the battlefield, wouldn’t the enemy be riddled like a sieve?” A Deputy General couldn’t help but exclaim.

At this moment, Xiao Zhengfei looked at his M16 automatic rifle with a disdainful expression.

”Princess Consort, since there are such powerful weapons as machine guns, why don’t you equip us with them? Or are you reluctant?”

”Hehehe...” Xiao Zhengfei’s words amused Han Lei.

”Hahaha...”

Everyone else laughed along. They felt that Xiao Zhengfei was like a child asking his parents for things, complaining that his parents were being stingy.

Han Lei held back her laughter and patiently explained, ”A squeeze of the trigger on a machine gun uses up an entire magazine of bullets. It can be used for defending against large numbers of enemies, but you wouldn’t normally need it.”

”Hehe.” Xiao Zhengfei chuckled awkwardly and scratched his head, ”I was just saying. Princess Consort, don’t take it to heart! Hehe.”

Seeing that he meant no harm, Han Lei wouldn’t hold it against him. She put away her phone and looked at everyone’s reactions with satisfaction.

”Now you understand, right? The power of a machine gun is incomparable to that of a bow and arrow. With it, our defensive capability can be greatly enhanced.”

Everyone nodded in agreement, their faces showing excited expressions.

”Master, you truly are knowledgeable! If not for you today, we wouldn’t have known there are such powerful things in the world!” Mr. He took a sip of wine and couldn’t resist flattering her.

Han Lei smiled sweetly and waved her hand modestly.

”Not at all, I just happened to come across it. However, since everyone finds it useful, let’s build according to the bastion’s blueprint.”

”Alright!”

Everyone responded in unison.

The next day, Xiao Zhengfei and his trusted aides continued to test and select soldiers.

Meanwhile, Han Lei, accompanied by Li Erniu, took Yang Qi Quan and other craftsmen to survey the terrain, mark lines, and prepare for construction.

The site selection for the bastion was crucial. It had to control key surrounding passages and be based on a star shape with multiple sharp angles to form crossfire that maximizes coverage of the defensive area.

Although Zhang Dongzi had arrived in Yong’an City, the recruited craftsmen were not yet in place. There were plenty of soldiers in the military camp, so Li Erniu brought over several battalions of soldiers to help out.

Standing on the open ground, Han Lei pondered quietly for a moment.

This was Zhao Zun’s territory, and since emergency vehicles and motorcycles had already appeared, there was no point in avoiding it any further.

So, she decisively purchased a large number of shovels and pickaxes from the system.
