She Came to Heal, Stayed to Conquer

The Princess Consort is right—loyalty should be given only to those who deserve it.

Therefore, when that person mentioned ”His Majesty,” Mr. Meng’s face suddenly darkened, and he pulled the trigger.

”Bang!” A gunshot rang out, and the Imperial Army soldier who mentioned ”His Majesty” cried out miserably before falling to the ground.

He fell instantly, the speed was astonishing.

The scene was immediately plunged into a deathly silence.

They really dared to strike against the Imperial Army; the soldiers were terrified, shrunk backward, not daring to utter another word.

With the M16 suppressing them, the dozens of aggressive Imperial Army soldiers who came to demand justice ceased their actions in less than three minutes.

Zhao Zun yanked Cao Xiong from the ground, cast a cold glance at them, and said indifferently, ”Take them away, imprison them.”

Having had enough of Cao Xiong and the Imperial Army’s demeanor, Wan Congfei immediately responded, enthusiastically leading the soldiers forward to bind and escort the Imperial Army soldiers for imprisonment.

After completing all this, Wan Congfei curiously examined the M16 in the hands of the trusted aides and couldn’t help but admire.

”Mr. Zhao, your methods are truly impressive! Enough for a monkey like me to study for a lifetime.”

Zhao Zun smiled slightly, his eyes kind.

”The safety of Beiguan is paramount. Cao Xiong and these Imperial Army soldiers are nothing more than clowns.”

Wan Congfei nodded and said seriously, ”Marshal, we brothers swear to follow you to the death!”

Zhao Zun patted his shoulder, his gaze sweeping over the gathered soldiers, his voice loud and clear.

”Brothers, Beiguan is our home, we shall not allow anyone to destroy it! From today onward, we will regroup, and swear to defend Beiguan to the death!”

The soldiers shouted in unison: ”Swear to defend Beiguan to the death! Swear to follow Marshal Zhao to the death!”

Their voices shook the skies, their morale soaring.

Zhao Zun curled his lips in satisfaction. As he had hoped, the Beiguan garrison was smoothly handed over, and he finally had his own army.

He had seriously weighed his options; he had led the Beiguan garrison for many years, held some prestige in the military, and shared deep bonds with his brothers.

All were brothers fighting for the protection of the Da Jing Dynasty with their lives; if Emperor Jing suspected him, he was also suspecting the brothers at Beiguan, many of whom had already turned cold in their hearts.

If he wanted to gather the army, he was fairly confident he could persuade the Beiguan garrison. The problem was how to capture Cao Xiong and Li Gang smoothly without alerting the court?

If he brought Han Lei’s advanced weapons and directly stormed Beiguan to capture Cao Xiong and Li Gang, he would definitely face resistance from Cao Xiong and Li Gang. With so many people in the barracks, the innocent would surely be harmed.

Moreover, even if he could forcibly capture Cao Xiong and Li Gang, without a legitimate cause, it would instead bring him many obstacles in taking command of the garrison.

Furthermore, the news from Canzhou sent to the Capital City had already been blocked by Luo Hai.

He believed even if Cao Xiong and Li Gang were incompetent, after the enemy retreated, they would certainly notify the court to temporarily halt troop movements as a priority.

After all, it is a basic operation for those who take command.

But he also believed Luo Hai would certainly prevent the reports from reaching the court.

So when the Xuzhou Army appeared, he predicted that the long-distance assault by Song Yuanqing would definitely demand justice from Li Gang and Cao Xiong.

As long as they followed Song Yuanqing, they could approach Cao Xiong and Li Gang openly and catch their flaws, allowing his plan to proceed relatively smoothly.

Originally, he thought it would take some effort, but what he did not expect was the response from his brothers far exceeded his imagination.

When the excited emotions gradually calmed down, Zhao Zun slowly turned his head and said to Wan Congfei standing by his side, ”Go and release those two brothers!”

Wan Congfei paused slightly, then understood whom Zhao Zun was referring to as ”brothers.”

Zhao Zun was referring to the two trusted aides who had betrayed his movements last time, having been threatened because their families were kidnapped.

After Xiao Zhengfei investigated, their situation was indeed as reported. After the Turkic forces withdrew for the first time, he had sent trusted aides to rescue their families.

Due to the urgent departure without recovering command, these two trusted aides hadn’t been dealt with and were still imprisoned.

One is named Zhang Huazi, a young man not yet thirty.

The other is named Qian Dafu, a skinny middle-aged man around forty.

Wan Congfei nodded and turned to leave.

Zhao Zun dismissed the other soldiers, turned, and entered the central command tent with the trusted aides.

Mr. Meng and others rummaged through the tent and finally found the court’s Commander’s Seal on the bookshelf, handing it to Zhao Zun.

Soon, Wan Congfei entered with the two men in tow.
