She Came to Heal, Stayed to Conquer

Wei Dabao, along with Zhang San and others, returned to the Wei household, causing a commotion inside.

The steward knew that Zhang San and the others were sent out wave after wave to handle matters, so when Wei Dabao went missing, he thought he was also out on business.

But after half a month without seeing Wei Dabao return, and having left without explaining to the family, the people in the household finally couldn’t sit still.

The madam ordered the steward and servants to search almost the entirety of Qingshui County, and all places related to the Wei Family, but they found no clues.

They even went to the county government to report the case. The officials said they would try their best to find him and let them go back and wait.

Unexpectedly, this wait lasted almost two months.

The steward was contemplating whether to ask the madam’s permission to send a letter to the Wei Family in the Capital City to enlist their help in the search.

In the end, Wei Dabao returned again with Zhang San and the others.

The steward and the servants working in the yard quickly gathered around.

”Master, Master, you’ve finally returned.” The steward was delighted.

”Master has returned, greetings to Master.”

”Master, why have you grown thin? Where have you all been?”

”Master, how did you end up in this state?”

For a moment, the servants were talking over one another as they greeted and asked with concern about their whereabouts.

Wei Dabao, however, brushed them off with a few perfunctory words, a hint of impatience on his face, and led Zhang San and the others straight into the study, closing the door with a bang, shutting out the noise outside.

Meanwhile, Wei Dabao’s wife received the servants’ report that Wei Dabao, who had been missing for days, had returned, and she hurried out to see her husband.

To her surprise, she didn’t even catch a glimpse of Wei Dabao’s back. She let out a dissatisfied hum and turned back to her own courtyard.

Inside the study.

As soon as the door closed, Wei Dabao’s expression turned grim, his eyes gleaming with greed.

Eagerly, he asked, ”Quick, tell me, exactly how much treasure is there? Did you get a clear look?”

Zhang San stepped forward, lowering his voice.

”Master, although we couldn’t get a detailed look inside, the place is heavily guarded, with Luminous Pearls hanging on the walls, shining brightly, clearly not an ordinary place.”

Wei Dabao squinted. That night, he personally saw those Luminous Pearls hanging on the wall.

Recalling the scene he spied on from afar, he became more certain that a treasure was hidden there.

Wei Dabao nodded, gesturing for Zhang San to continue.

Li also joined in, his tone tinged with excitement.

”Master, not only is that place heavily guarded, but there are also several fierce dogs kept there. Moreover, Mr. Luo leads hundreds of farmers in every day, and takes them back to Tongfu Building at night. I suspect those farmers are helping him dig for treasure!”

Wei Dabao’s brows furrowed, a hint of malice in his eyes.

He sneered, ”Luo Hai, that bastard, is indeed up to something behind the scenes! Those farmers, he must be using them as laborers to dig up treasure.”

Zhang San echoed, ”Master, we also saw a gray-blue house near the gate. I guess that’s where they must be storing the treasure they excavated.”

Wei Dabao clenched his fists tightly, his knuckles turning a bit white.

He suddenly recalled the scene of New Year’s Eve when Luo Hai was feasting and drinking with those farmers at Tongfu Building.

If those bumpkins were helping Luo Hai dig up treasure, it made sense for Luo Hai to treat them to a good meal.

”Master, the walls around there are built high and long; there must be a lot of treasure!”

”Right, Mr. Luo has been digging for over three months; who knows if there’s any treasure left inside?”

Two other servants also chimed in, their eyes gleaming with greed.

The words of these two reminded Wei Dabao of how they had been imprisoned by Luo Hai for so long and mistreated, while Luo Hai was out digging treasure, feasting, and enjoying himself.

Upon recalling this, anger surged within him.

”Bastard!” Wei Dabao cursed through gritted teeth, ”If this vengeance goes unaddressed, I, Wei Dabao, swear I am not human!”

Zhang San and the others, seeing this, echoed, ”Master, we must get revenge! Luo Hai, that corrupt official, must not have it easy!”

Li fawningly approached, asking in a low voice, ”Master, what do you plan to do? We’ll follow your lead.”

Wei Dabao sneered, a hint of craftiness in his eyes.

”I’ll write a letter to my uncle right away, sending it by homing pigeon to the Capital City. I’ll ask uncle to strip Luo Hai of his position as County Magistrate. My uncle is the Prime Minister, highly placed and powerful; he won’t stomach me being bullied by Luo Hai. By then, Luo Hai won’t be able to hold onto his magistrate position.”
