Beauty and Might: Heavenly Flames

Time passed slowly, stretching into indistinct moments as the process continued. Then, one of his dormant meridians ignited, a faint glow appearing before rapidly intensifying into a deep, earthen radiance.

The light spread steadily through his meridian network, reinforcing every pathway with stability and strength. It was not explosive, but absolute, like the quiet formation of a mountain over time.

The surrounding Earth Qi began to settle gradually, its pressure easing as the transformation completed. The air grew lighter, leaving behind a rich, fertile vitality that lingered throughout the treehouse.

Yao Fuhuo observed in silence before speaking. ”Good. The Earth element has awakened,” she said, her tone calm yet carrying clear approval. ”But continue. There is still residual energy—refine it.”

Li Yan nodded and returned to meditation, drawing in the remaining Earth Qi with controlled breaths. Each cycle strengthened his core further, compressing the energy into a stable, refined foundation.

As twilight deepened outside, the glow around him intensified. Then, a quiet surge rippled outward from his body, steady yet powerful, like a silent tremor passing through the earth itself.

The breakthrough followed naturally.

Complete.

When Li Yan opened his eyes, his aura had changed. It carried weight now—grounded, stable, unshakable—like a mountain that stood unmoved against time and force.

He had reached the peak of Qi Refining Realm (Stage-2), his foundation strengthened further by the integration of Earth Qi, solidifying his path with a depth that could not be easily shaken.

Li Yan rose slowly, his movements smooth yet carrying a subtle heaviness, as though each step was rooted in the earth itself. His body felt reinforced, every motion balanced between strength and control.

He stepped forward and bowed deeply. ”Thank you, Senior Yao,” he said, his voice sincere and steady. ”For your guidance and this opportunity.”

Yao Fuhuo’s gaze softened, a faint smile forming as she regarded him. ”This is only the beginning,” she said calmly. ”The path ahead remains long, filled with both opportunity and danger.”

She paused briefly, then added quietly, ”But I believe you will walk farther than most.”

The treehouse gradually returned to stillness as the remaining Earth Qi settled. Outside, the valley rested beneath the evening sky, the ancient world around them quiet, as if acknowledging the step he had just taken.

Yao Fuhuo raised her hand in a slow, fluid motion, graceful yet deliberate. A faint shimmer flickered in the air before a glint of silver appeared, hovering weightlessly between them.

The object turned slowly in place, as though observing its new owner, before drifting downward with quiet intent. It settled gently into Li Yan’s open palm, its presence calm yet unmistakably profound.

The ring appeared simple at first glance, smooth and unadorned, lacking any visible engraving or gem. Yet beneath that plain exterior, it carried a steady resonance that immediately drew Li Yan’s attention.

His senses extended instinctively, brushing against the structure within the ring. Complex internal engravings pulsed faintly, layered with dense Qi that hinted at craftsmanship far beyond ordinary artifacts.

”This is no ordinary storage ring,” Li Yan thought, his gaze sharpening slightly. ”Tier-5 at the very least… possibly higher.”

”Take it,” Yao Fuhuo said calmly, her voice gentle yet carrying a subtle authority beneath its warmth. ”I’ve prepared a few things inside that will be useful to you.”

Li Yan nodded and closed his fingers around the ring’s cool surface. Without hesitation, he channeled a thin stream of Qi into it, establishing a connection with practiced ease.

The ring responded instantly. Its internal space rippled outward like water disturbed by a falling stone, and the air before him shimmered as reality adjusted to the summoned contents.

A soft metallic hum followed as several items materialized in midair, descending slowly and arranging themselves upon the wooden floor with deliberate precision.

The collection was modest in number, yet each item carried a distinct presence. Nothing was excessive, yet nothing felt ordinary. Every piece had been selected with a clear purpose.

At the top of the arrangement rested two scrolls, bound with aged parchment and sealed using elegant silk ribbons, one crimson and the other muted grey, both radiating restrained power.

Though their surfaces appeared worn, a faint aura lingered around them, the kind only formed by long-sealed techniques that had endured the passage of time without losing their essence.

Beside them lay a set of weapons and gear, arranged with careful balance. A fitted suit of armor reflected ambient Qi softly, its structure lightweight yet reinforced with subtle enchantments.

Next to it rested a slender sword, its blade smooth and cold, carrying a faint silver edge that suggested precision rather than brute force. Its presence was quiet, yet undeniably sharp.

A bow followed, crafted from reinforced spiritwood, its limbs curved with perfect symmetry. The string appeared almost invisible, yet the tension it held could be felt even without touch.

A spear lay beside it, its shaft polished to a flawless sheen, dark as obsidian. Its obsidian tip carried quiet lethality, as though it existed solely for decisive, fatal strikes.

Nearby, a pair of gauntlets rested side by side, their surfaces etched with intricate runes. Faint pulses of energy flowed through them, subtle yet alive, like veins beneath metal skin.

Two daggers completed the set, compact yet vicious, their curved edges honed to unnatural sharpness. Even resting still, they seemed capable of slicing through air itself.

Li Yan’s gaze moved across the collection, his expression composed, though a flicker of surprise surfaced within his eyes. The quality of each piece was unmistakable.

”These are not ordinary weapons,” he thought. ”Tier-6… or close to it. She prepared all of this for me?”

Lined neatly beside the weapons were twenty-four rings, arranged in precise order. Their colors varied across hues, from white, green, brown, blue, purple, and black.

Each ring emitted a faint glow, layered with suppression runes and elemental resonance. Their presence carried weight, pressing subtly against Li Yan’s senses like controlled pressure.

Floating slightly above the arrangement was a single thick book, bound in aged leather. Its cover bore no title, yet it radiated a dense, ancient presence that felt immeasurable.

Li Yan’s brow lifted slightly as he took in the full collection. His gaze lingered for a moment before shifting back toward Yao Fuhuo, curiosity surfacing within his calm demeanor.

”This many?” he asked, his voice steady, though a trace of disbelief slipped through.

Yao Fuhuo smiled faintly, folding her arms as she regarded him. ”This is only the beginning,” she replied, her tone smooth and unwavering.

”Your path will not be easy,” she continued. ”Talent alone is never enough. Preparation decides whether that talent survives long enough to matter.”

She stepped forward slightly, gesturing toward the scrolls. ”The grey one contains a neutral technique. It will be suitable for you regardless of elemental alignment.”

Her hand shifted toward the crimson scroll. ”This one is fire-based. You have already awakened that affinity, so you will need a proper technique to utilize it effectively.”

Her gaze moved across the weapons. ”The armor is for protection. The rest are for practice. I brought multiple types because your path will not be limited to a single weapon.”

”You will need adaptability,” she added calmly. ”As your affinities grow, your combat style must evolve with them.”

She paused briefly before continuing, ”Until now, the sect has only provided you with darkness-aligned tools, correct?”

Li Yan gave a quiet nod, absorbing her words without interruption. He made no mention of his previous weapons, knowing they held little value compared to what lay before him. But still, those old weapons are the ones he earned by himself.

”Thank you, Senior Yao,” he said at last, his voice low and sincere, carrying both respect and acknowledgment of what had just been entrusted to him.

Li Yan allowed the significance of the gifts to settle before his attention shifted to the remaining artifacts—the neatly arranged rings, their varied hues faintly reflected in the ambient light. His eyes lingered on them for a moment before curiosity surfaced.

”Senior Yao, these twenty-four ring-like artifacts…” he began, voice calm yet inquisitive, ”what exactly are they used for?”

Yao Fuhuo’s expression softened, a trace of quiet amusement flickering within her eyes. ”Training rings,” she replied, her tone measured and composed, carrying both clarity and intent.

”They are designed for body tempering,” she continued, stepping closer to the arranged set. ”Each one is infused with gravity pressure, increasing in intensity from Tier-1 to Tier-6.”

She reached down and lifted a white ring, its surface unremarkable at first glance. Held between her fingers, however, it emitted a faint, grounded pressure that subtly weighed on the surrounding air.

”This is the lightest,” she said, offering it toward him. ”You will begin here. Wear them daily, on your limbs, increasing the number as your strength improves.”

”They will slow you down at first,” she added, her gaze steady, ”but over time, they will reshape your body, strengthening endurance, reflexes, and control beyond what ordinary cultivation achieves.”

Li Yan accepted the ring, his fingers closing around its surface. The weight surprised him immediately, far heavier than its size suggested, pressing faintly even against his tempered physique.

Even so, he did not recoil. Instead, he measured it silently, sensing the controlled resistance embedded within. It was not overwhelming, but it demanded acknowledgment.

”This… will be useful,” he said quietly, more to himself than to her, a subtle note of appreciation threading through his otherwise composed tone.

Yao Fuhuo inclined her head slightly. ”The strength of Qi alone is insufficient,” she said. ”Your body must be able to endure what your cultivation invites.”

”The stronger your foundation,” she continued, ”the more you will be capable of withstanding in the future.”

Li Yan gave a small nod, absorbing her words without resistance. His attention then shifted toward the floating book resting above the collection, its presence quiet yet undeniably heavy.

He reached out and took it carefully, feeling the worn leather beneath his fingers. The cover bore no decoration, yet its aged texture carried the weight of time and forgotten knowledge.

Opening it slowly, his eyes fell upon the first page, where bold, archaic script had been etched with deliberate force.

”The Body Cultivation.”

His brow lifted slightly as he read the words, then glanced back toward Yao Fuhuo. ”Body cultivation?” he asked, his tone calm, though curiosity had deepened.

Yao Fuhuo nodded, her expression settling into quiet seriousness. ”It is not merely a supplement to Qi cultivation,” she said. ”It is an entirely separate path, complete and profound.”

”It focuses on refining the physical vessel itself,” she continued, her voice steady. ”Not through Qi alone, but through direct tempering of flesh, bone, and endurance.”

She paused briefly, allowing the weight of her words to settle before continuing.

”Years ago, in certain regions of other continents,” she added, ”there are practitioners who walk this path exclusively. Though it is harder than Qi cultivation, its raw power is undeniable.”

”They can shatter mountains with their fists,” she said, her tone calm yet firm, ”and withstand forces that would destroy ordinary cultivators.”

Her gaze shifted briefly toward the book, her expression softening slightly with memory.

”I found this tome years ago, within the ruins of an ancient battlefield,” she said. ”Whether this path still thrives today, I cannot say. But its value remains unquestionable.”

Li Yan’s eyes lowered toward the pages once more, his thoughts sharpening as he considered her words. What rested in his hands was not simply knowledge, but a path few understood.

”Though it’s not complete knowledge, this book contains foundational principles, techniques, and cultivation methods,” Yao Fuhuo continued. ”You may study it at your own pace and decide how far you wish to pursue it.”

Li Yan closed the book slowly, his movements controlled, his gaze thoughtful. The implications were clear, yet he showed no outward haste in his decision.

”Understood,” he said quietly.

With a subtle wave of his hand, he guided the items back into the storage ring, each one dissolving into space as the ring responded to his Qi.

Once finished, he offered a respectful bow, his posture precise, his expression calm yet sincere.

”Thank you, Senior Yao,” he said. ”These are not ordinary resources. I will make full use of them.”

Yao Fuhuo smiled faintly, her gaze warm yet knowing. ”Do not treat them as gifts,” she replied. ”Consider them an investment.”

”In your future.”

The words settled quietly between them.

For a brief moment, neither spoke. The treehouse creaked softly with the movement of ancient wood, while distant winds brushed through the vast canopy beyond.

The silence was not empty.

It was deliberate.

After a brief moment of quiet thought, Li Yan lifted his head, his expression composed yet intent. ”Senior Yao,” he said, ”I hope you don’t mind. There are a few things I wish to ask.”
