Beauty and Might: Heavenly Flames

A scream shattered the silence. ”Help!” The voice was sharp with fear.

Li Yan’s body froze.

He slowly turned his head toward a narrow side street between two buildings. A girl stood there, struggling desperately.

She appeared to be around his age, perhaps another college student. Her clothes were disheveled, and panic filled her eyes as three men surrounded her.

One held her wrist tightly. Another blocked the alley exit. The third leaned casually against the wall, smiling with predatory confidence.

”No need to scream,” one of them said with a low laugh. ”No one’s coming.”

The girl struggled harder. ”Let me go!”

Li Yan’s heart began to beat faster. He remembered now.

This moment. The one that had haunted him for years.

Back then, he had been standing exactly where he was now—at the mouth of the street, hidden in the lengthening shadows.

And he had hesitated. Three men. Each was larger and stronger than he is.

At that time, his body was thin and exhausted from work, and he had no real fighting experience. He had assessed the situation instantly.

If he intervened, he would lose. He might even die. So he had turned away. He had chosen survival.

Li Yan’s jaw tightened slightly as another memory surfaced.

Days later, he had stood before a small convenience store, staring at a newspaper headline pinned to the glass window.

His chest had tightened as he read the words. A college student had been found dead after days of captivity.

The article described the brutal details. The same girl. She had been tortured for several days before being killed.

Li Yan had remained frozen before the newspaper while a heavy silence had settled in his chest.

And a single thought had surfaced in his mind—the same one that had followed him for years. ”If I had stepped forward that night… Would things have been different?”

Regret.

For years afterward, the regret lingered like a scar that refused to fade.

Now he stood in the same place again, watching the same scene unfold. But this time, Li Yan did not turn away.

His gaze steadied as the memory played out before him. ”That decision…” he murmured. ”…was wrong.”

The girl screamed again as one of the men forced her against the wall. The sound cut through the narrow alley like a blade.

Li Yan stepped forward.

Slowly. Calmly.

His body in this illusion remained the same thin frame from his college years. There was no cultivation, no enhanced strength, no Qi flowing through his veins.

But his mind was no longer the same. He had lived through countless struggles.

In his previous life, after becoming a business tycoon, he had been forced to defend himself more than once with lethal resolve. In this new life, he had fought beasts and faced difficulties in the wild.

His fists tightened slightly. ”Three men,” Li Yan murmured to himself. ”…not impossible.”

Without another word, he walked into the alley. The three men noticed him immediately.

One frowned. ”Hey,” he said sharply. ”This doesn’t concern you.”

Li Yan did not stop walking. His gaze remained calm. ”You’re right,” he replied quietly.

Then his eyes hardened slightly. ”But I’m not walking away this time.”

For a brief moment, the alley fell silent after his words. The three men looked at him with annoyance, then amusement.

One of them scoffed. ”Look at this idiot,” he muttered. ”You got a death wish?”

Another cracked his knuckles and stepped closer, towering over Li Yan’s thinner frame. ”You should’ve kept walking,” he said coldly.

Behind them, the girl’s frightened eyes shifted toward Li Yan. For a moment, hope flickered within them, though fear still clung to her expression.

Li Yan remained calm. He did not respond to their taunts. Instead, he quietly observed their movements. This body was still weak—slower, lighter, lacking the strength he now possessed in the cultivation world.

But weakness did not mean helplessness.

Not anymore.

The first man suddenly lunged forward, grabbing for Li Yan’s collar.

Li Yan moved instantly. His body shifted sharply to the side, slipping past the man’s grasp. At the same moment, his fist shot forward and struck the attacker’s throat with precise force.

The man staggered back immediately, choking. The other two froze for a split second, stunned by the sudden counterattack.

Li Yan did not give them time to react. He stepped forward again, his movements controlled and efficient—less like a frightened college student and more like someone who had fought for survival.

The second man swung wildly.

Li Yan ducked beneath the punch and drove his elbow into the man’s ribs. A dull crack echoed through the alley as the attacker collapsed with a groan.

The third man cursed and rushed forward, rage flashing in his eyes. Li Yan sidestepped the charge and grabbed the man’s arm, twisting sharply.

A painful shout erupted as the man was thrown violently onto the pavement.

Within moments, the alley fell silent. The three men lay groaning on the ground, their earlier confidence completely shattered.

Li Yan stood over them, breathing steadily. ”Leave,” he said coldly.

None of them argued. Scrambling clumsily to their feet, the three men fled down the street without looking back.

Silence returned.

For several seconds, neither Li Yan nor the girl spoke.

Then she slowly approached him, her hands trembling slightly. ”T-thank you,” she said, her voice unsteady but sincere. ”If you hadn’t…”

Her words trailed off.

Li Yan gave a faint nod. ”It’s over,” he replied quietly.

The girl bowed her head gratefully before hurrying away down the street, her figure soon disappearing into the evening shadows.

Li Yan watched her go. A strange calm settled over him. Deep within his chest, something shifted. A gentle yet firm aura began to spread through his body. It was not warm like fire, nor sharp like steel.

It felt… righteous.

A quiet strength that carried both resolve and judgment.

Defiance.

Justice.

The two forces flowed together like converging rivers.

Li Yan lowered his head slightly, sensing the unfamiliar power surrounding him.

”This is…”

Before the thought could finish—

The world shattered.

The alley dissolved like smoke in the wind.

When Li Yan opened his eyes again, he was no longer standing on a dim street.

Instead, he sat inside a spacious office.

Tall windows stretched from floor to ceiling, overlooking a vast city skyline illuminated by countless lights. Glass walls reflected the glow of the night. At the same time, polished wooden furniture and modern decorations filled the room with quiet luxury.

Li Yan recognized it instantly.

His office. The headquarters of the company he had spent years building.

This had been the peak of his previous life—the moment when he had finally climbed out of poverty and stood at the top of the business world.

A soft knock sounded at the door.

”Come in,” Li Yan said instinctively.

The door opened, and a middle-aged man stepped inside. He wore an expensive suit, his expression carrying a mixture of respect and quiet calculation.

”Chairman Li,” the man said. ”There’s an opportunity I think you’ll find interesting.”

Li Yan leaned back slightly in his chair, watching him without speaking. The man walked forward and placed a document neatly on the desk.

”There’s a smaller company competing with us for the new infrastructure contract,” he explained. ”Their finances are fragile. If we release certain information at the right time, we can crush them before the bidding even begins.”

A faint smile appeared on the man’s face. ”No one will trace it back to us.”

Li Yan lowered his gaze to the document.

Numbers. Contracts. Legal loopholes.

With a single decision, he could destroy an entire company. Thousands of employees would lose their jobs. Families would suffer.

And yet—

It would strengthen his own empire.

The man spoke again, his tone calm but persuasive. ”In this world, Chairman Li, hesitation only benefits your enemies.”

Silence filled the office.

Li Yan slowly closed the file. Then he pushed it back across the desk.

”We’re not doing that,” he said calmly.

The man blinked in surprise. ”But Chairman Li—”

”If we win,” Li Yan continued evenly, ”we win by merit.”

His gaze sharpened slightly. ”Not by ruining people who can’t defend themselves.”

The room fell quiet. For a moment, the man said nothing.

Then he gathered the document slowly and gave a respectful nod. ”Understood.”

Without another word, he turned and left the office. When the door closed, Li Yan remained seated in silence.

A faint smile appeared on his lips. ”Power,” he murmured softly. ”It’s easy to abuse.”

The moment the words left his mouth—

The office dissolved.

The city lights vanished.

The illusion collapsed.

Li Yan opened his eyes once more. He was seated beneath the crimson sky of the Sword Realm. The endless field of swords surrounded him again.

But something had changed. The atmosphere within the realm had shifted. Thousands of blades began to tremble faintly.

A deep resonance spread across the battlefield like ripples moving across still water. Some swords radiated fierce approval. Others hummed with quiet respect. A few remained silent—but none rejected him.

Li Yan slowly sensed the sword realm’s aura gathering around him. He closed his eyes again.

Within his chest, a powerful presence had begun to take shape. It was no longer vague. No longer incomplete.

Defiance.

Judgment.

Two principles that had once existed separately now fused into a single, unwavering will. A new power stirred within him.

The air around him sharpened. Invisible pressure rolled outward across the sword realm.

The countless blades embedded in the earth vibrated in response, their ancient wills resonating with the transformation taking place before them.

The aura continued to gather around Li Yan’s body. It was neither violent nor oppressive. Instead, it carried a quiet authority—calm yet unyielding.

Like a blade that refused to bend.

Like a judge who refused to yield.

The aura expanded slowly, spreading outward from his body like a ripple across water. Nearby swords began to hum softly, their steel resonating with the awakening intent.

A few blades even trembled more violently, as though acknowledging the birth of something rare.

Li Yan exhaled slowly. His breathing remained steady, but within his consciousness the transformation had already completed.

Defiance.

Judgment.

Will.

These forces merged and crystallized within him, forming something sharper than any blade.

An Intent.

A Sword Intent.

When Li Yan finally opened his eyes, the crimson sky above seemed clearer than before.

The sword realm had fallen silent. Every blade stood still. But within that stillness, an unspoken recognition spread across the battlefield.

Li Yan’s lips curved slightly.

At that moment—

His Defiant Judgment Sword Intent awakened.

All around him, the swords began to stir.

At first, it was subtle—a faint tremor running through the countless blades embedded in the ground. Then, in the next moment, thousands of swords rose into the air.

They surged upward like a storm of steel.

Blades spun and swirled around Li Yan, forming a violent cyclone. The wind howled with killing intent, sharp and relentless. Edges flashed past him at terrifying speeds, some passing close enough to graze his skin.

Yet Li Yan did not move.

He closed his eyes.

Instead of resisting the storm, he listened.

Not with his ears—but with his spirit.

Each sword carried its own voice. Some burned with anger, others echoed with sorrow. There was vengeance, justice, discipline, pride… countless emotions colliding within the storm.

At first, it was overwhelming.

But gradually, something began to change.

Within the chaos, Li Yan found rhythm.

Patterns emerged where there had once been disorder. The clashing intents no longer felt random—they flowed, intertwined, forming something greater than the sum of their parts.

Harmony.

Li Yan’s Spiritual Sense extended outward.

This time, it neither probed nor resisted.

It moved with the storm.

It wove through the countless blades, not as an outsider—but as part of it.

The storm responded.

Its violent tempo began to slow. The chaotic movements of the swords grew more measured, more controlled. The once-unruly cyclone gradually shifted, aligning with Li Yan’s rhythm.

The blades began to orbit him.

Like disciples gathering around a master.

Then—

Silence.

All swords came to a halt. They hovered in the air, motionless.

Reverent.

Still.

Above him, the word Sword ignited in the sky.

It was not carved into stone nor written in ink. It was etched into the very fabric of the realm, blazing with a white-gold radiance that pulsed with boundless meaning.
