Helping Beautiful Women Become Stronger, I Have a Love System

131: Chapter 131 Fox SpiritXiao Baihe lived in Room 101, Unit 1, Building 3 of Xiangxiao Residential Area.

It was a single room that never saw the sun all year round.

Her neighbors to the left and right were the couple Li Qiang and Zhang Cuihua in Room 102, and the couple Wang Dahai and Liu Hong in Room 103.

Both couples were in their early thirties, struggling to survive in the big city of Zhongzhou.

Li Qiang was a rebar worker on a construction site, while Zhang Cuihua was a spinning machine operator in a textile factory.

Wang Dahai drove an electric tricycle to haul goods, and Liu Hong was a Supermarket stocker.

Their lives were filled with the trivialities of daily existence, living paycheck to paycheck, and the couples often argued over small matters.

Until the day Xiao Baihe moved in.

It was an afternoon in late November.

Xiao Baihe carried her simple luggage.

A faded woven bag and a cloth bag stuffed with missing person notices, as she stood in front of the door to Room 101.

She wore a washed-out blue cotton coat, her hair tied simply behind her head, her face bare, but her natural beauty was like moonlight in the dark night, impossible to hide.

Li Qiang happened to come back from work and passed her in the hallway.

At that moment, he was stunned, his gaze glued to Xiao Baihe’s face, unable to look away.

Until Zhang Cuihua opened the door and came out: ”What are you standing here for? Get inside!”

Li Qiang then snapped out of it and hurried into the room.

Wang Dahai came back later that day, but he saw the back of Xiao Baihe bending over to unlock her door in the hallway.

Her full waist and the plump curve of her hips made him unable to resist taking a few more glances.

Liu Hong keenly caught her husband’s gaze, and her expression immediately darkened.

”New neighbor?” At dinner, Wang Dahai asked his wife Liu Hong seemingly casually.

”Yeah, I heard she’s from out of town, alone, a widow.”

Liu Hong picked at the cabbage in her bowl, ”She looks decent enough, but I don’t know what she does for a living.”

”A widow?” Wang Dahai’s eyes lit up, ”That’s not easy! As neighbors, we should help her out more.”

Liu Hong slammed her chopsticks down: ”Help her? With what? We can barely put food on our own table!”

The same conversation was playing out in Room 102.

The first few days were relatively peaceful.

Xiao Baihe left early and returned late, either working at the Supermarket or going around asking with her daughter’s photo.

She was polite but distant, nodding and smiling when she saw neighbors, but not saying much.

But her mere existence had become a thorn in Liu Hong and Zhang Cuihua’s hearts.

After all, Xiao Baihe was too beautiful.

Although she always went without makeup and wore ordinary clothes.

It still couldn’t hide her beauty.

She had their husbands completely infatuated, which had already seriously affected their married lives.

The two felt they had to get rid of Xiao Baihe, otherwise their lives would probably be ruined.

The first conflict occurred a week after Xiao Baihe moved in.

At six o’clock that morning, Xiao Baihe got up early as usual, planning to go around the neighborhood before work.

Opening the door, a sour, foul stench hit her.

A bag of household trash was piled at the door, liquid leaking from the bottom and forming a puddle on the floor.

She was stunned for a moment and looked left and right.

The hallway was quiet, and the doors to 102 and 103 were both closed.

”Excuse me...” She gently knocked on the door of 102, ”Is this trash yours? It seems to be in the wrong place.”

The door swung open, and Zhang Cuihua, in her pajamas, stood at the door with her hands on her hips: ”What do you mean ours? You clearly threw it out yourself! What, trying to blame us?”

Xiao Baihe frowned: ”I saw it as soon as I opened the door. I didn’t throw it.”

”If not you, then who?” The door to 103 also opened, and Liu Hong stuck her head out, saying sarcastically.

”Both our families are hygienic people and never put trash outside. Some people look decent, but their character isn’t up to par.”

Xiao Baihe wanted to argue but looked at the time.

She still had to find her daughter and didn’t have time to get entangled.

”Sorry, maybe I misunderstood,” she said softly, bending down to pick up the stinking bag of trash, ”I’ll go throw it away.”

Watching Xiao Baihe carry the trash downstairs, Zhang Cuihua and Liu Hong exchanged a smug look.

This time they had encountered a real pushover.

They were going to give her a hard time.

This was just the beginning.

...

The next day.

When Xiao Baihe returned from work and grabbed the doorknob, she felt a stickiness.

Lifting her hand, her palm was covered in transparent glue, reflecting the dim light.

She tried it; the doorknob was stuck with glue and difficult to turn.

Liu Hong and Zhang Cuihua came out of their rented rooms.

They laughed loudly at Xiao Baihe.

They mocked her as they laughed.

Calling Xiao Baihe stupid.

Xiao Baihe silently took out a tissue from her bag and wiped away the glue bit by bit.

The glue was very sticky and pulled painfully on her skin. She wiped for a long time until her fingers were red before she finally managed to open the door.

After entering, she leaned against the door and took a few deep breaths.

She couldn’t get angry or cause trouble; she still had to live here and find Xiao Jing.

Xiao Baihe thought she could just endure it and it would pass.

But malice doesn’t stop because of patience.

Instead, it intensifies.

Xiao Baihe was used to leaving a pair of old cloth shoes outside the door for easy changing when coming and going.

One morning, she found the shoes filled with dirty water, soaked through and smelling of urine.

She picked up the shoes, her hands trembling.

The door to 103 opened a crack, and Liu Hong showed half her face: ”Oh, why are the shoes wet? Is it some kid being naughty? But you should also be careful; putting smelly shoes outside affects the hallway environment.”

Xiao Baihe looked at Liu Hong, feeling anger boiling in her chest for the first time.

She wanted to ask: Was it you?

She wanted to demand: Why are you doing this to me?

But in the end, she said nothing.

She threw the shoes in the trash and went out wearing her only pair of sneakers.

It rained that day, and her sneakers were soaked; she stood in the Supermarket for eight hours, her feet becoming white and wrinkled from being soaked.

Returning in the evening, she met Li Qiang and Wang Dahai in the hallway coming back from work.

”Sister Xiao, off work?” Li Qiang took the initiative to greet her, his eyes wandering over her.

Wang Dahai also leaned in: ”Are you used to living alone? If you need any help, just say the word.”

Their gazes made Xiao Baihe uncomfortable.

She nodded, wanting to hurry back to her room, but was stopped by Li Qiang.

”Don’t be in such a hurry to leave; let’s chat for a bit. I heard you’re looking for your daughter? What’s the story?”

Xiao Baihe didn’t want to say much, but thinking that one more person knowing meant one more chance of finding her daughter, she briefly explained the situation.

”How pitiful,” Li Qiang clicked his tongue, ”Tell you what, I know many people at the construction site; I’ll ask around for you.”

”I travel to many places hauling goods; I’ll keep an eye out too,” Wang Dahai said.

A glimmer of hope rose in Xiao Baihe’s heart: ”Really? Thank you both so much!”

”Don’t mention it, we’re neighbors.” Li Qiang smiled, his eyes squinting into slits.

This scene was witnessed by Zhang Cuihua and Liu Hong, who were returning from buying groceries. The two women’s faces were ashen, and the plastic bags in their hands crunched as they clenched them.

”vixen!” Zhang Cuihua cursed under her breath.

”Shameless!” Liu Hong echoed.
