Helping Beautiful Women Become Stronger, I Have a Love System

6: Chapter 6 The Landlady’s Husband is GayAfter finishing the watermelon, Cao Kun looked at Bai Muyou with sincere eyes.

”Sister Bai, the clothes aren’t urgent. More importantly... are you feeling better now?”

”I saw you were in a very bad mood tonight. Did something happen?”

”If... it’s convenient, you can tell me.”

”Although we aren’t very close, I’ve always thought you were a really good person, Sister Bai. Seeing you like this, I don’t feel good either.”

Sure enough, Bai Muyou immediately put up her defenses.

She lowered her eyelids, her voice flat and distant: ”It’s nothing, just... some work troubles. I drank a bit alone to drown my sorrows. Sorry you had to see that. Thank you for bringing me back and for getting your clothes dirty.”

This was clearly not the truth.

Bai Muyou must have argued with her husband.

But since she didn’t want to tell him, there was nothing he could do.

After thinking for a moment, he decided to take a risk.

Directly poke at Bai Muyou’s sore spot, break through her defenses, and then comfort her properly in turn.

”Sister Bai,” he leaned forward slightly, his tone even more earnest, even carrying a hint of righteous indignation on behalf of a loved one.

”Logically speaking, we’re just landlady and tenant, but I know your character. In my heart, I’ve always seen you as an older sister.”

”Seeing you so sad, I really can’t help it... Is it... did you have a fight with your husband?”

”Let me tell you, sis, arguments between husband and wife are normal. Once the elders give a little verbal guidance and the younger siblings step in, the conflict gets resolved.”

”If that really doesn’t work, you can tell me, your younger brother. Although I don’t have any great abilities, I can act as your family, go reason with him for you, help you vent your anger!”

”Enough!”

Bai Muyou jolted as if pricked by a needle, sharply raising her head. Her voice suddenly rose, carrying suppressed anger.

”I said it’s nothing! My affairs are none of your business! And don’t mention him! Don’t mention him in front of me again!”

Her chest heaved, and the rims of her eyes visibly reddened again at a rapid pace.

”If you mention him again, then... then please leave now!”

As soon as the words left her mouth, seeing Cao Kun instantly freeze, his expression stunned and somewhat innocent, Bai Muyou immediately regretted it.

He meant well, he cared, yet she had vented her anger and resentment towards that person onto a young man who had helped her.

She slumped back against the sofa, pressing her fingers hard against the space between her eyebrows. Her voice dropped, filled with exhaustion and apology: ”I’m sorry... Xiao Cao, I wasn’t lashing out at you... I... I just... I’m sorry...”

Cao Kun did not awkwardly leave or get angry as she had anticipated.

Instead, he breathed a sigh of relief.

A reaction, even a fierce rejection, meant he had touched a real sore spot.

Not only did he not retreat, the concern and determination in his eyes became even more apparent.

He wanted Bai Muyou to deliberately vent her anger at him, making her feel guilty afterward.

That way, she would be less resistant to him later.

”Sister Bai, you don’t need to apologize. I was presumptuous, asking about something that hurts you.”

His voice was very soft, yet it carried a peculiar, compelling force that made one want to confide.

”But do you know? Sometimes, holding things inside is like poison; the longer you hold it, the more it hurts.”

”The more you avoid it like this, the more it proves how deeply it has wounded you.”

”It’s just the two of us here. Treat me as a tree hole, pour out the grievances in your heart. You’ll feel better.”

”I’ll be your strong support, pushing you forward from behind.”

He paused, his gaze unwavering as he looked into Bai Muyou’s tear-filled eyes, continuing slowly and clearly.

”The way you looked just now isn’t how someone merely troubled by work would look.”

”It’s how someone looks when their heart has been torn open.”

”Sister Bai, with your excellent conditions and such a kind heart, what kind of thing could hurt you so much that you’d go drinking alone?”

”Is it... did your husband betray you?”

These last few words, Cao Kun asked very lightly, yet they were like a key, violently prying open the door to Bai Muyou’s tightly locked heart.

Bai Muyou’s body trembled violently. The tears she had been holding back finally burst forth.

She abruptly stood up, staggering slightly as she walked towards the large double-door refrigerator. She took out two cans of cold beer, opened one with a ’pop’, tilted her head back, and took a large gulp. The cold liquid slid down her chin, mixing with her scalding tears.

Holding the other can of beer, she walked back and placed it heavily on the coffee table in front of Cao Kun. Then, she hugged her knees and curled up in the corner of the sofa, like a helpless child.

”You want to know? Fine... have a drink with me, and I’ll tell you...”

Her voice was hoarse, thick with nasal congestion and the despair of someone who had given up.

Cao Kun knew Bai Muyou was ready to confide in him. He immediately picked up the beer, opened it, and took a big swig.

”Sis, today I’ll risk my life to keep a beauty company!”

Bai Muyou took another gulp of beer, her eyes vacant as she stared ahead, as if looking at some painful phantom.

”You guessed right. It is my husband who cheated.”

”Do you know what’s most ridiculous? The damn person he cheated with... was actually a man.”

Cao Kun’s fingers tightened slightly around the beer can. Even with some psychological preparation, this answer made his heart skip a beat.

”Holy shit, is your husband fucking sick?”

”With such a great beauty right here, he goes and likes men? What a fucking idiot!”

Cao Kun’s few curses instantly made Bai Muyou feel a sense of agreement.

The floodgates of confession were completely opened.

She seemed to fall into a vortex of memory and self-analysis, her words coming faster and faster, her emotions growing more and more agitated:

”Am I not stupid? A classic case of lovesickness... My family’s conditions are good. We have over a dozen properties for rent alone, money comes in every month without lifting a finger.”

”Back then, my parents opposed it, saying he didn’t seem reliable, but I was like I was bewitched, insisting on marrying him and no one else.”

”After marriage, I was afraid he’d have a hard time working, and also afraid... afraid other women would seduce him, so I told him to stay home, I’d support him.”

”Clothing, food, housing, transportation—I gave him the best of everything, money to spend freely...”

”I thought this way I could firmly tie him to my side, let him know how much I loved him, and he would love me the same way...”

Her tears poured down, her voice choked: ”And the result?”

”Three years! We’ve been married for three years, and the number of times he’s touched me can be counted on one hand. Every time was like fulfilling a duty, even... very reluctant.”

”I always thought it was because he wasn’t in good health, or under stress. I even found ways to nourish him, tried to understand him...”

”I even wondered if I myself lacked charm... I never thought in another direction!”

”It wasn’t until today... that I found out, he’s gay! Hahaha... I’m really a fucking huge joke!”

”I didn’t lose to a woman, I fucking lost to a man.”

Bai Muyou cried and laughed.

Intense humiliation, feelings of betrayal, and self-doubt completely overwhelmed her.

”I gave him my heart, I gave him the best life, I loved him so much... yet he’d rather love a man!”

”What did he take me for? A decoration to hide the truth? A sucker providing money? What were these three years of mine? What was my marriage?”

She cried until her whole body shook. Her expensive silk loungewear was soaked with tears in patches, her meticulously styled hair fell loose, and she was enveloped in immense sorrow and collapse.

Cao Kun listened quietly. The shock in his heart was gradually replaced by a complex emotion.

Especially when he heard Bai Muyou ask, ’What were these three years of mine?’

Cao Kun’s defenses crumbled.

He started crying along with Bai Muyou.

Now, Bai Muyou was completely bewildered.
