Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game

On many nights, she would dream of his face, and even his scent, sometimes even his heartbeat and breath rhythm, and even his kiss—delicate tenderness that provided her with the deepest comfort in her dream. So clear, every part of him, the touch of his fingers, the warmth of his chest, the intense love and hate that made her wake up each night with a pillow dampened by tears.

That night, he really just let her go, standing there like a statue carved from hard ice, dumbfounded, allowing her to disappear into the night.

Avery Jane sat up; this was the house she had lived in before she turned fifteen, where her alcoholic father always stayed. The shabby district was far from the bustling city center. Even the bathroom in the South Sky Apartments was bigger than this house. The year after her father left, Wenyard specifically had the place freshly painted. Apart from her father’s room, which remained unchanged, the furniture was replaced. He said this would be her maternal home from then on, and he would accompany her to pay respects to her father.

The Yates Family had already fallen, and after Arthur Yates died, Wenyard’s mother sought refuge with her sister abroad, making this old small house the only place Avery could find solace. When she left the Hughes Family, she took only her passport and ID card, with the card Joshua Hughes made for her and several large bills in her wallet.

That card could never be used, and if she didn’t find a job soon, she would soon have no money for food. Avery Jane, like a wandering ghost, walked to the small living room and drank a cup of hot water. It felt so cold; even as the weather warmed, she still felt a chilling cold from deep within her heart, perhaps because she really was like a weed. No matter how many trampled her, she still wanted to live strong; her life was exchanged by him, wasn’t it? If that night she jumped, Wenyard would definitely blame her; he wanted to entrust her his life, so she had to live more wonderfully.

Looking at herself in the mirror, she resembled a ghost, pale and thin, even her lips seemed dry and about to crack. ”Wenyard, tell me, how can I live better, how can you be at ease?” That man, like a brother and a father, was no longer around; no one could help her but herself.

Tomorrow, she had to find a job tomorrow. Avery Jane took a deep breath, opened instant noodles, put them in a bowl, poured in hot water, and covered them with a lid. A nauseating feeling welled up; she smiled bitterly—now there were instant noodles to eat, but after a few days, perhaps not even noodles could be afforded. Opening the bowl lid, the noodles felt somewhat soggy and mushy; she swallowed large mouthfuls, only after finishing it would she have the strength to live on...

Unable to tell whether it’s day or night, the curtains in the study were tightly closed. The whole room reeked with a poignant smell of alcohol, as soon as stepping inside, one would be overwhelmed as if intoxicated by the scent of alcohol.

”Cannot appear in my life, cannot use any means to interfere with my life, cannot stalk me, cannot monitor me. You must abide; Joshua Hughes, if you dare violate your oath, may I die a terrible death.” Her departing words still echoed; how could she swear an oath like that? He considered himself a tough guy, always did, but now he discovered the truly tough one was Avery Jane; she left him no retreat, he dared not take any risk. He knew Avery’s nature too well; if he did dare to entangle, even if the oath didn’t come true, she would make herself die; she was that stubborn a woman.

What to do, just a few days, he felt as though he was dead, sinking into an endless dark world, with biting cold everywhere, so cold that he didn’t even want to open his eyes, because whenever he opens his eyes, all he saw was gray, a hazy smear.

A spring morning with a slight veil of mist, she got up early. The old lady downstairs selling soy milk and fried dough sticks still remembered her, especially adding half a spoon of sugar when she drank the soy milk.

”Young lady, have you been working out of town? You haven’t returned for so many years.” The old lady smiled kindly, this young lady was still as beautiful as though she stepped out from a painting.
