Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game

Alexander King’s heart skipped a beat, as expected, something happened.

This matter was his foolishness, he suddenly also understood why Nora Thompson didn’t stay at the Ritz Carlton despite booking it. Although she is a little bookworm, she still has some vigilance, she knew she couldn’t let Joshua Hughes encounter her there.

That’s why she changed her accommodation. But from this point, it can also be seen that Nora Thompson must have said something critical to the woman with Joshua Hughes, he suddenly felt a splitting headache.

On this matter, Nora Thompson went a bit too far, now that Joshua Hughes seemed to have settled down and was nice to Avery Jane, why was she so stubborn? She was only immersed in the various doctrines talked about in books, unaware that sometimes lies can be more beautiful than the truth.

He didn’t know how far Joshua Hughes had gone with Avery Jane, but this kind of affection for a woman, he had never shown before. This time, he was in big trouble because she was his wife, he couldn’t stand by and watch her and the business she protected suffer blows and harm. But now he had no way to persuade Joshua Hughes to back down, on one side was his brother, on the other his wife, what should he do?

”Joshua, give me a little time, Nora is very stubborn.” Alexander King’s tone was laden with helplessness as he spoke with difficulty. That little bookworm was really stubborn to the extreme. In her world view, there might only be right or wrong, just like black and white. He had to work hard to pry open Nora Thompson’s mouth, hoping she hadn’t said anything that would truly anger Joshua Hughes, otherwise, the consequences would be disastrous.

Joshua Hughes raised his deep ocean-like eyes to look at Alexander King, though it wasn’t extremely tense, the atmosphere was taut enough to nearly suffocate.

”I can’t give you too much time, after tonight, if you can’t get what I want from her mouth, in a month, I’ll make sure Nora Thompson’s business is backed into a corner. King, you should know this isn’t difficult for me.” Joshua Hughes’ brows were tightly furrowed.

Alexander King’s heart throbbed violently, bleeding incessantly.

If Nora Thompson stubbornly insisted to this irreversible point, then should he engage in war with Joshua Hughes to protect her? He didn’t even dare to imagine this day happening because his guilt towards Nora often made him yield to her, repeatedly backing down.

But now, it’s not as simple as just backing down; she had stirred up a great trouble yet was still oblivious.

The two men stared at each other, their gaze was like a taut string, about to snap.

”Joshua, please give me just a little more time, just a little more, and I promise I’ll give you a satisfactory explanation.” Alexander King stood with a tall and proud posture, compared to his usual unruly demeanor, today he seemed a bit anxious and uneasy.

Joshua Hughes carried enough of a sense of oppression to press down his counterpart; they weren’t opposites, but today he could clearly feel the overpowering imposing manner bearing down. Such a man had the ability to subdue others without a fight.

”Three days, King, just three days at most.” Joshua Hughes’ thick eyelashes drooped, and no one could guess his thoughts. But just that Avery Jane, even a fool could discern his intense, anxious, water-like affection.

”Don’t think of sending her away, King, she can’t run.” Joshua Hughes lifted his gaze, his cold stern eyes bearing a warning. Alexander King’s heart chilled; indeed as brothers, Joshua could predict his every thought.

”Three days, okay, then three days it is.” Alexander King gritted his teeth and strode out, disappearing like a gust of wind from the office.

Now time was the most precious thing to him, he had to pry open Nora Thompson’s mouth....

The café door was pushed open once again, Angela Scott didn’t look back to see who it was, but she already guessed. Beckett Wright’s eyes always remained as calm as a still heart but seeing the door open at that moment, ripples began to spread, gentle as the afternoon sun.

He stood up, pulled a chair out for Avery Jane, and sat down.

”Avery Jane, where have you been lately? Why couldn’t I reach you?” The jealousy in his heart was roiling intensely, looking at the woman seated across from him, she was more beautiful. The previous youthful taste was slowly fading, becoming elegant and charming.

”Avery Jane, this is Angela Scott, as I’ve mentioned to you before; it’s because of her that I got to know you.” Beckett Wright looked at Avery Jane; her complexion was a bit pale, her face lightly clouded with worry.

”Avery Jane, what’s wrong? Don’t you recognize me?” Angela Scott looked at Avery Jane with some surprise, although she had heard some rumors outside, it was not until Avery Jane sat in front of her that she seriously confronted this issue. Avery Jane really seemed not to recognize her.

”Sorry, I fell once and after waking up, I couldn’t remember things from before.” Avery Jane gazed at Angela Scott, trying hard to search in her memory, wanting to find a little bit of image about her, but truly, she couldn’t find it, her mind was a blank.

”Oh gosh, like a scene from a movie; how did that happen to you? Unbelievable, did you really forget me?” In Angela Scott’s heart, thoughts were surging, maybe a bit of sympathy, but only she knew, schadenfreude dominated a bit more.

This girl, who attracted countless boys’ attention since childhood, finally one day, didn’t even remember who she was. Beauty with such fate, that’s what she represented. A slight cold laugh brushed her heart, then she pondered what she ought to say to her. If her man wasn’t Joshua Hughes, she wouldn’t even worry about possibly saying something wrong. But the man behind her wasn’t someone she could provoke, so tonight she had to be on high alert and handle carefully.

”We’ve known each other for quite a long time, right?” Avery Jane eyed Angela Scott; her acquaintance with Nora Thompson and Beckett Wright wasn’t long, but this woman was her longest acquaintance, hoping she could find the answers she wanted from her.

”Almost ten years, I guess.” Angela Scott’s eyes flickered with a hint of brightness, her glances swept past Beckett Wright. Her elaborate peachy outfit today seemed hardly noticed by Beckett, who didn’t cast her a glance. Because of her short haircut, her favorite jewelry was earrings, and today she wore a pair launched by Grant this year, yet he apparently didn’t give them a second look.

”Then can you tell me, what was I like before?” Avery Jane’s gaze became a bit eager, like a lost child finding her way home.

”In the past, you were really beautiful, and now even more beautiful.” Angela Scott responded with a smile, as she began calculating in her mind.

”Oh, I mean my previous life?” Avery Jane’s face flushed slightly; being described like this made her uncomfortable.

”Before? At school, many people pursued you, and I was the one who passed on love letters for you.” Angela Scott knew what she wanted to ask, but those matters she couldn’t disclose, because indeed what extent had she and Joshua Hughes reached? Everything said tonight had to be cautious, otherwise, it would lay down a hidden threat, one that could blow someone to pieces at any moment.

”My family, my relatives, romances I’ve had? Angela, Beckett said you’re my best and longest-known friend, can you help me, please?” Avery Jane lifted her clear as water eyes, almost transparent. Such a woman always evoked jealousy, the chaotic world had long tarnished other people’s pure hearts, yet after all these years, Avery Jane remained the same, like a completely pristine crystal.

”Your mother died during your birth, she was very beautiful, very gentle. I never met her, this is what your neighbors said, your father fell seriously ill when you were fifteen, due to excessive drinking, he developed liver cancer. That year, you went through a tough time...” it’s during that she met Lucas Yates, but should she really tell her this? How much memory did she still retain? Was it all forgotten, or did she retain a sliver of an impression?

”Did I get married? Is my husband named Lucas Yates?” Avery Jane’s heart ached; when Joshua Hughes told her he met her, she was alone. Given his ability, he should have been able to find out about her past, yet he told her nothing. Was he sparing her grief, or was he purposely withholding all this, just to prevent her from remembering something?

”I attended your wedding......” Angela Scott bit her lower lip, unsure what consequence this sentence would bring her. But in front of Beckett Wright, she dared not lie; she didn’t want Beckett to think of her as someone who deceived her best friend. She didn’t want him to have any bad impression of her.

For a split second, Avery Jane seemed unable to breathe, was it that wedding she dreamt about? Long-tailed white gown and the man dressed in white, his elegant silhouette, suddenly, her large watery eyes were fixed on Angela Scott, filled with a hint of light mist.......

Did she actually find someone who attended her wedding? She and Joshua Hughes didn’t hold a wedding, so if her dream were true, the man she had the wedding with would definitely be Lucas Yates.

At the thought of this name, her heart felt a bit lost and saddened, something seemingly familiar yet unrecallable, too torturous to bear.
