Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game

In the office, Emma White walked in holding some documents. She had been thinking about how to talk to Avery Jane without making it seem sudden since she stepped out of the elevator, so she had already asked someone to cover for her. The moment the department manager heard that someone was willing to take this hot potato, he almost knelt in front of Emma White.

She had greeted the HR manager and then returned to the office, unable to help but sigh inwardly. Joshua Hughes had indeed put all his effort into Avery Jane.

”Avery, I just took the documents to the boss. Did he say you submitted your resignation?” Emma White asked Avery with a surprised look as she sat in her chair, leaning her head over.

”Yeah.” Avery replied with her eyes downcast.

”Avery, that’s not very sisterly of you. I nearly got fired by President Hughes for your trip to Sydney. Because we can talk to each other, if you leave this office, I’ll be so upset. Is it because you don’t like me always dragging you out to have fun?” Even people who have only interacted with her like me for a short while can tell that she has a soft heart, so saying this will definitely make Avery feel embarrassed.

”No, of course not. I’ve just been feeling a bit tired lately.” Avery hurriedly lifted her head, explaining to Emma. She didn’t expect her resignation to make Emma think this way. She never knew how many friends she really had in the past, but now she cherishes Emma very much. Despite sometimes making inappropriate jokes, being with her is always a joy, and she doesn’t want to lose such a friend.

”Feeling tired is no problem, lately I’ll do half of your work, so you’ll have half a day’s rest every day.” Emma patted her chest, looking completely confident, making Avery lower her head in embarrassment. She never knew how to refuse people, especially those who cared about her.

”No need, really, Emma.” Avery’s eyes brimmed with a thin mist, full of emotion. The Hughes Clan offered great benefits and high salaries, but the workload was equally heavy. And she was going to help her bear half of it.

”Then don’t leave. I just retrieved your resignation letter from the boss. Avery, think it over carefully. Yesterday everything was fine, but today you suddenly want to go. Decisions made in a moment of impulse are seldom wise and correct.” Emma spoke earnestly to Avery, and this was indeed her heartfelt opinion. Although she wasn’t sure what exactly happened between Joshua Hughes and Avery, it was clear that Joshua cared greatly for Avery. When he mentioned her, there was a tender sorrow and helplessness in his eyes that resonated like ripples in water, endlessly spreading. What was Avery still troubled about?

”Avery, did you have a fight with President Hughes?” Emma asked cautiously, knowing it was a bit sensitive to ask this now, but couldn’t help her curiosity about the two of them.

Outside, the sky carried the damp mist unique to spring. Avery sighed lightly. A fight? No, he was the kind of nearly flawless husband, but at the thought of the word ’husband,’ she instantly negated it. He wasn’t her husband at all. How great it would be if he were, then she wouldn’t be so troubled now. She was contemplating what identity she was living with him under; it was laughable — she couldn’t figure it out.

:”We didn’t fight, it’s just...” Such things are impossible to speak of, and she didn’t even know how to describe them because to others, it certainly would seem absurd.

:”Just what? Tell me quickly.” Emma’s eyes sparkled with excitement, urging Avery on.

:”I feel like I’m not very suited for this identity.” Avery said softly, unsure whether she was saying it for Emma to hear or for herself.

Joshua Hughes’s real concern wasn’t about Avery resigning, but did she happen to run into Nora Thompson in Sydney?

Did Avery and Nora actually meet? If they did meet, what would Nora say to her? Although he’s been reassuring himself that it wouldn’t be such a coincidence, the bad feeling still surged uncontrollably from the depths of his heart, like a boiling pot of water that couldn’t be stopped.
