Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game

”Mr. Hughes, I’ve come to ask for a favor, I hope you can help me one last time.” Joshua Hughes’s tone made her feel uneasy, very uneasy. He seemed angry, but having come this far, she had to muster the courage to try. It was precisely because of her boldness that she was now a manager at M.C and was now able to stand alongside Beckett Wright as equals, so she wanted to seize this opportunity.

Joshua Hughes didn’t respond; he merely smoked and exhaled a ring of smoke, his every move carrying a cold aura. He didn’t even bother to give her another glance.

”I promise never to see Avery Jane again, but in exchange, I hope Mr. Hughes can arrange a position at Hughes Clan for my brother. He’s very talented,” Angela Scott said through gritted teeth.

Nowadays, university graduates are as numerous as cattle, and with her brother’s qualifications, he likely wouldn’t even get an interview opportunity. But she only had this one brother, and she was determined to secure a good future for him. A position at Hughes Clan was naturally a dream for many young people—great benefits, high salary, and significant promotion opportunities.

Joshua Hughes pressed the half-smoked cigarette into the ashtray, leaned back in his swivel chair, and the indifference in his brow instantly turned into rage. The deep, cold eyes exuded a chilling aura, lowering the room’s temperature by several degrees, making Angela Scott shudder involuntarily.

Under the warm and charming white shirt, he couldn’t conceal the cold aura emanating from deep within. His inherently savage and arrogant nature permeated from every pore, and the powerful, icy presence overwhelmed her, leaving Angela Scott speechless, merely staring at him in a daze.

”Did I misunderstand? Miss Scott, you’ve sold your friend again?” The words from his thin lips were like the most hurtful knives, unabashedly slicing through Angela Scott’s self-esteem.

Why must it be like this?

She merely wanted to secure a better life for herself and her family, yet she was met with mockery and blows from this man?

Angela Scott suppressed the fury in her heart and hastily spoke: ”Mr. Hughes, I just want to find a job for my brother. If you don’t agree, I’ll personally go ask Avery Jane.” Using her last trump card, she hoped to persuade Joshua Hughes; this was her last hope.

Joshua Hughes remained seated, staring back at Angela Scott. But his gaze was ruthless, devoid of humanity, as if there were thousands of the fiercest, hungry wolves in his eyes, ready to pounce and tear her apart, devour her, leaving nothing behind. Such a gaze made Angela Scott’s legs go weak, her whole body tremble slightly.

”You’d better behave, or I’ll make you disappear from this world without a trace, along with your brother. People might think you’ve immigrated or something, but in reality, you might have immigrated underground. Miss Scott, do you understand my words? If you appear in front of me and Avery Jane again, can you bear the consequences?” His voice was light and gentle, his posture unchanged, still lazily reclining against the chair, engulfed in the strongest midday sun, but the chill and violent aura he emitted had long made the warm sunlight icy cold.

Self-humiliation, Angela Scott held back her tears about to fall, was this self-humiliation?

Avery Jane followed him to the best life, and he got Avery Jane, wasn’t it a happy ending?

She only wanted to claim a small portion of victory from this perfect conclusion for her brother. Hughes Clan had so many employees, she was merely vying for a chance for her brother, but the man before her seemed like the stingiest person in the world, looking at her pain without giving any charity. Remembering that her brother was at home excitedly waiting for her good news, thinking of her parents finally able to stand tall among relatives boasting about how excellent their daughter was, how she could find a good job for her brother, thinking of those relatives’ envy mixed with skepticism.

How should she respond? She thought this matter was straightforward, yet she never imagined Joshua Hughes would reject her.
