Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 2539: Chapter 2534: Classic Request

Look, professionalism is so important.

Even in a space-time that’s clearly erroneous and misaligned, it can still carry through with the work content.

And everything stems from not forgetting one’s initial intent.

As for the guidance on the other side of the walkie-talkie, Fu Qian had no hesitation and indeed chose the left path.

Of course, the person on the other side may not necessarily be benevolent, but at a time of extreme lack of judgment basis, there’s no need to expend energy distinguishing between good and evil; at least this path bears more of a memetic load.

The atmosphere is even more solemn.

It’s hard to say how it compares to the other side, but at least from where he started, the high-tier academic institution’s temperament quickly elevated.

Overly tall doors, decorations lacking in practical meaning.

Intricate silver lines adorned more and more, sparkling at the sides and even beneath the feet in the reflection of the exquisite lighting, offering a wondrous sense of time-space flow as one walks.

Moreover, there are no side paths, requiring only a straightforward direction.

At first, there are rooms lined on either side, resembling both an auditorium and a laboratory, but unfortunately, each door is tightly shut.

Considering the receptionist’s advice, Fu Qian truly didn’t attempt to open any doors to explore.

After ascending another long stairway, he found his view suddenly widen.

Under a sky full of stars, to one side of his hand appeared an infinite expanse of water.

The building beneath his feet floated in it like an iceberg, with not a breeze stirring from the water surface.

No wonder there was skepticism toward his words; it indeed seemed quite far.

Fu Qian made sure to confirm his position, concluding he was in the middle-upper part of the entire structure.

For someone whose main battlefield should be the lake surface, this location was indeed somewhat high.

”Over here.”

Fortunately, there was no need to go higher; as Fu Qian admired the view along the way, new guidance emerged not far off.

...

Oh?

For Fu Qian, tracking the source of a sound was not difficult; his gaze quickly locked onto a room to his left.

Regrettably, though clearly calling someone over, the door remained closed, resembling a curtain drawn tight.

Knock, knock!

Even under such circumstances, Fu Qian didn’t expect the other party to open the door for him, but he politely knocked.

”You did very well.”

As expected, politeness pays off. The door didn’t open, but the other party chose to compensate with praise, immediately expressing satisfaction with Fu Qian’s attitude.

”Moreover, you were right; they’re all too obtuse, the crisis has long arrived quietly.

”If we let this be, we may never have the chance to find the answers to the problem.”

Before Fu Qian could offer any modesty, the person inside continued, even expressing strong agreement with his earlier statement.

”What problem’s answer?”

But as an academic worker, compared to the other party’s acknowledgment, Fu Qian was clearly more concerned with the latter sentence.

”Heh... has the assessment of current peripheral members become so lax? Not even requiring them to know this?”

Unfortunately, his immediate response was a slightly mocking laugh.

...

So, the cleaners aren’t directly recruited from society, but screened from amongst the organization’s peripheral members.

Fu Qian wouldn’t care about the tone or the like, merely nodding slightly, indicating he had gained more information.

The final mockery clarified a previous confusion: why such a classified place would allow non-academic personnel to be on rotation.

As it turns out, even if not engaged in research, the cleaners still belong to the same organization, indicating the secrecy of the work remains high.

”The cosmic beginning, the transcendent’s end... is there anything more fascinating than this? It’s a pity you cannot appreciate this.”

Seemingly able to visualize Fu Qian’s actions, and finding his reaction unimpressive, the person inside the door put away the mockery and answered him sincerely.

Compared to before, the tone now was subtly different, imbued with a solemnity of great persuasion, making it difficult to doubt the sincerity therein.

The content though...

The emotions were indeed on point, yet at that moment, Professor Fu still frowned.

Honestly, for a teacher speaking in such a manner, shouldn’t any slightly intelligent student be running away?

Cosmic origin, transcendent’s end?

Isn’t the subject a bit too grandiose? Likely even difficult to secure funding.

Originally thinking the Academy folks were already exaggerated enough, now it seems the ability to elevate in academia is indeed necessary.

”So what do you need me to do?”

Venting aside, it didn’t stop Fu Qian from continuing to inquire.

The other party wasn’t contacting him to complain about academic difficulties.

Praise at first, then underscore the difficulties, finally present the request—this pattern was nearly standard procedure.

”Very good... rest assured, I won’t forcefully demand that you accomplish impossible tasks, like directly resolving the crisis.

”I just need you to go into the back room and help me find something.”

The response from the person inside was almost immediate, seemingly very satisfied with Fu Qian’s attitude.

... Isn’t it a bit too classic?

Speaking through the door, narrating a crisis, finally asking him for help to find something.

In that moment, Fu Qian could almost see himself navigating through numerous games.

Adding the mention of the back room, the sensation felt even more peculiar.

”What thing?”

So much so that he was truly cooperative at that moment, engaging in the dialogue as though accepting a task with a question mark.

”The notes I left there.”

The answer came with crisp clarity.

Hmm? That sounded somewhat familiar.

Fu Qian acknowledged that for a researcher, losing notes was indeed serious, deeply understanding the urgency of retrieving them.

Yet the magic lies in him realizing that it wasn’t the first time he received such a task.

Early on during his initial arrival here, a brain jellyfish had given him a similar request.

”So that’s it, but how could something so important get lost?”

Sighing, Fu Qian empathically inserted himself into the situation, without concealing his question.

...

”That certainly was a grave mistake!”

Fu Qian’s words seemed to stir considerable emotion, as the doorkeeper hesitated before speaking, clearly conveying a deep sense of lament.

”The key is, I can hardly remember the reason, clearly close to finding an answer... only to misplace it at such a crucial juncture.”

Interesting, even this is the same?

Admittedly devoid of much substance, yet at that moment for Fu Qian, the crucial content once again seemed hidden within the details.

Just like the brain jellyfish before, losing notes at a critical moment near conclusion?

It’s genuinely hard to believe this was sheer coincidence.

But if not coincidence, what reasoning could yield such consistency across different anomalies?

”Understood, so how do I get to that place?”

Carrying the curiosity of a professional, Fu Qian truly accepted this commission.
