Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 2531: Chapter 2526: Fulfilling One’s Duty

It’s even designed with two barrels.

That’s right, the only long-range weapon Fu Qian chose stood out.

Although the overall design was as classical as the surroundings, it felt like it packed quite a punch.

”Are you sure?”

Noticing his move, the receptionist looked somewhat incredulous.

”Is there a problem?”

Fu Qian curiously asked back, making no attempt to hide his choice, as he stepped forward to pick it up and examine it closely.

It was indeed weighty, much heavier than his Mercy.

”Perhaps a bit... This thing is quite powerful, but it can only load a maximum of four rounds at a time.”

The receptionist did not stop Fu Qian’s actions, merely explaining coldly.

”Then you just reload several times.”

Fu Qian didn’t see it as a problem.

”There are also only four bullets.”

The receptionist added without blinking an eye.

The value of this ”masterpiece” seemed to be decreasing. Was the logistics cost being embezzled?

There truly were no extra ammunition found in the box, but the fact that other places were out of stock altogether did feel a bit excessive.

”Because no one ever chooses it?”

Fu Qian casually speculated on the reason.

”That’s right, everyone prefers things that can slash indefinitely.”

The receptionist indeed confirmed his statement, and it sounded reasonable.

Acting in a role similar to a cleaner, it didn’t seem like a very dangerous scenario. Sacrificing flexibility for a bit of safety distance really didn’t seem like a lucrative deal.

And if no one ever chooses it, it made little sense to produce too much ammunition.

”Well, someone has chosen it now.”

Fu Qian declared his final choice while empathizing, fully intending not to put the gun back down.

...

”Then you’d better save it for the final execution, relying on your personal abilities won’t be enough to completely kill the shadows.”

Seemingly realizing that this time it’s a real problem player, the receptionist paused for a moment, but did not prevent Fu Qian’s choice, just offered an extra reminder.

”Also, don’t forget, you’ll need to be on patrol for a week, if you run out of bullets and have nothing to show for it, I won’t exchange new equipment for you when the time comes.”

A week’s rotation? It even sounds like it’s a newbie each time?

What is this, some kind of radiation cleaner? Only one work opportunity, along with a stipulated time limit.

The receptionist’s reminder was undeniably serious, but unfortunately, Fu Qian was focused on other issues.

Upon reflection, it seemed quite apt, as the Sea of Ashes already had distortion-inducing effects, let alone this more special area within it, where one could inadvertently slip into unknown areas.

Compared to the permanent researchers, his role in doing the grunt work might have weaker resistance.

”Understood, I will strive to make every bullet count, so can I patrol anywhere next?”

Assessing the working conditions, Fu Qian had no objections to the receptionist’s words, and even seemed impatient for the work to begin.

”Of course not... Except for locked places, in any area with people, you’ll have to check with the researchers first.”

The receptionist resolutely advised with calmness.

”Additionally, you shouldn’t let your guard down, the shadows have recently become malevolent, perhaps causing damage beyond what you can bear.”

That did seem true.

Fu Qian sighed internally regarding this.

In just this moment, the hint in his ear had already sounded twice more.

Although this loss of SAN Points was bearable, it was undoubtedly irritating—Bang!

The crisp gunshot shattered the silence, with flames spitting fire as Fu Qian raised his hand and fired towards the door.

”...What are you doing!”

Having just learned about the preciousness of ammunition, shooting openly before leaving, the receptionist was clearly quite startled.

Looking utterly incredulous in that moment, he almost shouted, and even instinctively tried to snatch the weapon back.

”Performing my duty.”

Unfortunately, without a doubt, it was in vain, as Fu Qian’s figure already appeared at the door simultaneously.

He did not fire again, instead lifting a foot to kick the solemn door into fragments, with the ensuing vibrations so powerful that even the building was affected.

And Fu Qian’s figure had made it outside a moment earlier.

The situation became utterly chaotic.

...

You’ve been given a chance but failed to cherish it.

In that case, I’ll help you grasp this opportunity.

Obviously, it wasn’t the old gun going off accidentally, the receptionist did say that recently the shadows had become ”malevolent”.

In a corner where he hadn’t manifested Insight, something was quietly observing.

Three times plus two, a total of five, not returning a Calamity Eye in response would be rather discourteous.

Indeed, who said the drop in SAN Points must be due to the environment?

Perhaps driven by previous experiences, this was an instinctive first reaction, yet Fu Qian never liked assumptions.

If it was due to the ”Fallen Star Point”, then why this time there was a difference, only dropping little by little? He’s not even in full Tyrant form.

If not due to the Fallen Star Point, then what could it be from—simple, if it’s not the environment, then it’s a person.

Something was targeting him, employing such a highly directed attack.

Not a rare occurrence at all.

For an outsider like him, SAN Points were conspicuously another type of Blood Bar, and had encountered more than one type of output that could affect it.

In any case, once speculating upon this possibility, regardless of how concealed the foe, or how less sensitive Extraordinary Perception is, a reverse Calamity Eye applied repeatedly would nonetheless be a feasible maneuver.

Evidently, the opponent was rather outrageous, boldly following inside to inspect the armory together, as if needing to be in sight to deploy a SAN Point curse.

Additionally, once realizing being detected, the reaction was quick, phasing through walls, fleeing swiftly at the moment.

Actually, as mentioned before, a minor gesture like this, relative to the trivial loss, Fu Qian would still offer a chance for the opposite to continue their performance.

Unfortunately, apart from drawing circles and cursing, there seemed to be a lack of communication spirit, only letting him opt for a different kind of value exploitation.

Although appearing to be of considerable Ranking, almost like meeting a peer.

Fortunately, there are many ways for him to greet coworkers.

From afar, Fu Qian didn’t trigger the accumulating Calamity Eye, instead transforming his left hand into a ferocious head.

Cowardly little mice, dare you insult the Rebirth Club as devoid of people?

Grievously violent silver-white arcs of electricity, spewed forth from the massive mouth of the head, shredding all obstacles before him.

Was that...a wing?

Under the First Phase standard’s frenzied onslaught, that instantarily soaring sight, rising from destruction.
