Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 2527: Chapter 2522: Each One’s Fate

With a round of harvest, the undertows beneath Moore’s storm have become clear, bit by bit.

Accompanying it was a certain event that suddenly became prominent: Ji Yin’s mysterious disappearance.

As a member of the Greedy Worms’ team for this operation, initially severely injured yet active on the front line, he was likely the contact person for this transaction and Yasui.

This player, whose belief isn’t as devout, is undoubtedly a core figure in this operation.

As a result, the moment he arrived in Moore, he vanished completely without a trace.

Considering his activity on the front line, there indeed were plenty of dangers that couldn’t be underestimated.

Such as being discovered by Sorondir while surveilling, or being found by the lurking Selana, or even having a deeper affinity with this place, transforming into a Miracle Creature’s Wise Dead, never to return.

Unfortunately, as the event progressed, these possibilities were dismissed one by one.

Firstly, the probability from Sorondir’s side should be quite low.

On one hand, concerning the upgrade, his approach would most likely be the most aggressive; if he truly perceived any malicious intent aiming to sabotage an ascender, it would be perfectly normal to directly kill.

Even if the sensory sharing was cut off, the life link among the Greedy Worms remains, and Laurie and the others are still well and alive.

Secondly, Selana obviously hasn’t gained anything, otherwise she wouldn’t have been deceived at the outset by my impersonation, running to the Sirens’ ship for a risky kidnapping mission, which makes no sense.

As for falling into the Realm of the Dead?

Not to mention that both belong to the same Death God lineage, why would Ji Yin possess that extra outstanding qualification, and even after Selana fell inside, she clearly didn’t linger there searching less.

In summary, this sensitive figure happened to have no interaction whatsoever with every interest-related party and vanished on the spot, leaving one perplexed of what accident might have occurred—could it be there was originally no accident?

Regarding this increasingly intriguing problem, Fu Qian did not mind paying it a little attention and indeed came to a conclusion.

The more complex the situation becomes, the simpler one’s mindset should be.

Since by all accounts there didn’t seem to be an accident, could the disappearance itself be fake?

Ji Yin indeed is not in Moore, but simply left quietly on his own.

As for the purpose—desertion?

Certainly not.

...

In a bizarre, dangerous mission where one could easily become cannon fodder, is there any way to wrestle a bit of maneuver space for our side?

The conclusion derived from elimination earlier seemed absurd, but once based upon it, many advantages become apparent.

First, it becomes harder to be exposed.

For Selana to track all the way here and even know of Ji Yin’s name indicates that the confidentiality regarding these transactions with organizational ties is not that high.

Don’t forget that Yasui’s side is already a chaotic mess.

Thus, under such circumstances, the person responsible for interfacing, Ji Yin, becomes the most vulnerable point to be exposed within the team.

And no matter how well concealed one might be, can it match being totally absent?

Secondly, it could afford our side an informational advantage, more maneuver space.

The Greedy Worms’ operation in Moore this time at least involves a Demigod; showing weakness at the appropriate time is very necessary.

Fu Qian clearly recalls that the first thing Mr. Laurie Sr. did upon appearance was to take him on board to find Ji Yin.

Upon smoothly discovering the disappearance, such a mysterious figure like myself is bound to seek an explanation, mentally conjuring various threats in the darkness.

And the Greedy Worms, naturally morphing into the victim side, thereby reducing their threat level while maximizing leverage.

An alternative empty city tactic; if not for such an arrangement, Laurie might not have been able to engage so freely directly with the Rebirth Club.

As for the last point, it was mentioned before that Ji Yin barely recovered from a serious illness; utilizing him like a beast of burden lacks compassion, this arrangement allows him to play a role while simultaneously withdrawing from the frontline, which suddenly adds a touch more humanity.

In summary, it is a clever move by the Greedy Worms surviving in the cracks, maneuvering deftly.

And it did indeed work out; otherwise, they would have likely fallen into Selana’s hands already.

For Fu Qian, upon encountering the latter in the Realm of the Dead, he roughly confirmed that there are only three members of the Greedy Worms squad here in Moore.

Mr. Laurie Sr.’s previous reaction counts as confirmation of this point.

”What—”

”Ji Yin is already gone?”

Regarding Tooth Throat Lay Buddhist duo’s reaction, it indicates that even they are in the dark, their emotions quite stirred.

”Yes, the specific reason will be talked about after we leave.”

Laurie’s leadership manifests here, as he directly orders coldly, instructing no idle talk, then swiftly turns to Fu Qian.

”We are leaving right now, does the office there need us to undertake any additional handling?”

Fu Qian’s response reveals that he understands not just that the assumed collaboration is a dimensional downstrike, but even past postures were considered gentle.

For a moment, he reciprocates by granting the decision-making regarding cooperation with Yasui to the opposite party.

”No need, after all, I have some friendship with Emperor Yasui; there’s no necessity to destroy his office.”

Fu Qian displays remarkable Mercy.

”Alright—Yasui?”

Responding instinctively, Mr. Laurie Sr. suddenly gets jolted, sharply looking over.

”Otherwise, what? The Siren pulled everyone out, leaving an unutilized office behind? And it just so happens to fall into Yasui’s hands, what are their motives?”

Fu Qian casually voices a soul-searching retort.

If that room truly housed Siren’s people, after a visit from such a suspicious figure as myself, there should be information conveyed to Sorondir, preventing him from being so universally passive.

...

”Those individuals are Yasui’s people, present here only to die in our hands...”

The room falls silent; moments later, Laurie, seasoned in worldly society, takes a deep breath, realizing a chilling possibility.

”Hence Yasui summarily controls their tracks, hence, even when encountering suspicious people, they hide identities and do not react, for the order received was likely to stay hidden there...

”Therefore, the focus is not about killing them but when Sorondir discovers, there is Transcendent death within Moore City.”

Appearing to have an epiphany, Laurie rapidly connects everything.

”This is also why Siren’s people would withdraw wholly; even without knowing specific influences from a Transcendent’s death, it clearly disrupts Sorondir’s exploration, thus preventing this possibility...

”Unfortunately, Yasui’s tactics are even more ruthless, having directly hidden some of his own people here, the ones acting last having no direct relation to them, they become victims in the process...I thank you for your guidance, we’re leaving now.”

Without demanding more revelation from Fu Qian, Laurie solemnly thanks and promptly calls for the pair to follow.
