Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 2189: Chapter 2184: Shock of the Era

Cold, but windless.

Entering the nightmare through the brain fork was already a skilled operation for Fu Qian.

Seeing the Witch quite interested as well, naturally, there was no objection.

After accepting the sharing, the next moment brought a special tactile sensation.

So, it’s truly here again.

His gaze first landed on the large sword embedded in the red sand, speckled with frost; Fu Qian wasn’t too surprised.

Everywhere was icy cold, with tombstones standing, exactly like last time in the exploration where it seemed to be the remnants of the Sea of Souls.

The Witch, intrigued by this object, ultimately chose to use the power of the Dark Moon to forge a foundation for this unstable nightmare, preventing it from collapsing.

Of course, it wasn’t pure charity.

The boundaries between nightmares were becoming blurred, and the special nature of the current location made it particularly suited to be a nexus in the compound of nightmares.

Before leaving here last time, the Witch even pointed at a few tombstones, introducing where each led.

So whatever the Witch intended to do through the nightmare, choosing this as the first stop was all too natural.

Additionally, it must be said, the state of this place truly resembled that of preserved specimens.

Although there was no frost covering the ground, apart from the initial piercing chill, the ensuing deathly silence was immersive.

All actions had ceased, and time here lost meaning.

”This way.”

While evaluating, the Witch was already beckoning from the side, indeed standing next to a tombstone.

”Going to the Fallen Star’s side?”

Approaching, Fu Qian looked down briefly and easily identified the destination.

”You remember well.”

The Witch seemed very pleased, motioning for him to place his hand on it.

...

Truly, it was the underground base of the Fallen Star, even at the core underground, the bottommost layer of the whole structure.

Just as with entering the nightmare earlier, the next moment brought a change of scenery before his eyes.

Even without Extraordinary Perception, Fu Qian could easily recognize where he was.

After all, back then, he and the agent brother had quite a brawl here, causing considerable destruction.

Even at a glance, one could see traces not entirely wiped out.

Fu Qian could even roughly estimate the distance to where the Fallen Stars stored the Holy Relics.

One could say the Witch’s technique was truly transcendent, akin to opening a portal directly into a bank vault.

”...So are you trying to tell me after the situation improved, you were so pleased you secretly came down to chat with the Holy Relics?”

Unfortunately, the vault evidently had staff on duty, as a voice from behind a nearby door emerged the next moment.

A female voice, slightly familiar, but not the one just encountered, Xia.

”Is there a problem?”

It was indeed her.

...

The tension was palpable.

It was easy to discern that the subsequent speaker was none other than the accidentally misplaced Lady Xia.

Even through the door, it was clear there was an air of confrontation.

It was evident the dialogue between the two was far from pleasant.

At this point, Fu Qian also realized why the voice sounded familiar.

During the initial visit to the Fallen Star Clan, he had met their four chiefs, two men, and two women.

The one questioning was the remaining female.

This explained well the content of their conversation.

Clearly, the conflict stemmed from Lady Xia sneaking into the restricted area where the Holy Relics were kept, getting caught red-handed by this person.

Had she not been one of the chiefs, catching up might have been difficult.

”Of course I have... Do you think everyone believes your story? Even Frankie seems skeptical about the so-called Knight of the Dark Moon, Herbert.”

At this moment, the female chief was clearly unwilling to let her colleague off easily, coldly scoffing at Xia’s explanation.

As for the name she mentioned... Fu Qian naturally recalled a figure with a thick beard and bronze skin.

He was also one of the Fallen Star’s four chiefs previously met, with the hint of being a spokesperson.

When greeting the agent brother at that time, he remembered the man had been slightly involved.

It seemed his luck was good, having survived.

Whereas Lady Xia appeared less fortunate; the story she brought back wasn’t very convincing.

Yet, it seemed she had quite an insight, as her last line, ”Say hello to Principal Glenn for me,” inferred a significant amount, thereby confirming her identity.

But stumbling into danger, only to be saved by the Dark Knight and his Pontiff?

That story itself seemed quite dubious.

Additionally, from Fu Qian’s perspective, a big reason for distrust was that the image previously portrayed by this Knight of the Dark Moon was quite negative, dragging down the reputation of the Dark Moon faith.

Thus affecting even Lady Xia’s belief now.

”Why not believe? Regardless, this should count as good news, doesn’t it? Doesn’t it indicate that a force unknown to us has been assisting in combating the crisis?”

Fortunately, Xia was far from an easy opponent, promptly responding with a series of three rhetorical questions.

”Haha, so you took the only remaining Holy Relic, just to understand this force better?”

The female chief was equally unwilling to back down.

...

The conversation behind the door was vivid, and with previous encounters in mind, Fu Qian could easily imagine Xia attempting to fit a certain elastic skull onto her head.

According to Frankie’s in-mission demonstration, it would allow these ”Awakened” Cult Hunters to relive the moment when the nightmare shattered years ago.

So after returning, Xia not only remembered the grace from the Dark Moon but seemed eager to find more traces in history?

Admirable, full of initiative.

”I indeed wish to learn more, to see if I can find their traces.”

Amidst Fu Qian’s silent praise, Xia’s response from behind the door affirmed this point.

”Good... But you could explain this to Frankie, see if he believes it.”

Regrettably, the other party seemed unwilling to accept, persisting on taking her for trial.

”What are you afraid of?”

A rhetorical question was her answer.

”...What do you mean, what am I afraid of?”

The seemingly aimless question, quite impactful, made the other momentarily pause.

”I indeed came here secretly, but are you perhaps a bit too nervous?”

The shift in offense and defense was instantaneous, and Xia’s words had a strong heart-piercing style, relentless.

”It seems to me, compared to Frankie and the others, you’re less confident about the current situation.

”Not believing my story is one thing, but when things seem stable, you become this tense over slight unusual actions?”

Well said. The one condemning indeed seemed tense.

However, it was human nature, as Xia previously mentioned that within the organization, opinions on the era of nightmare fusion were somewhat divided.

While assessing, Fu Qian glanced at the Witch.

”You—”

The latter remained silent, yet the voice behind the door suddenly stopped.

Nodding slightly, Fu Qian directly stepped forward and opened the door.
