Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 1242: Chapter 1240: The Hostage’s Will to Survive

Felt treated with impoliteness.

Although it was indeed as anticipated that Harriet would reveal her true colors and take hostages, Fu Qian, as the involved party, was not in a good mood.

Theoretically speaking, shouldn’t he have become the center of attention at this moment? So why was he still being neglected?

Clearly, based on the results of previous probing, Harriet regarded him as an ordinary person without any ability to resist. Hence, even though the blade was pressed against his neck, her attention was entirely focused on the Hunter who was closing in step by step.

As for the hostage being threatened, he still seemed disinclined to speak, and even when the pursuer locked on his target and continued to advance, he once again applied a layer of metallic flame onto the blade.

Forget it, Fu Qian sighed inwardly, indicating that he would not stoop to their level. This would be a good opportunity to observe Harriet’s true face.

If one were to overlook the skeletal, lanky arm, she not only appeared to have her wits about her, but her facial features also didn’t look entirely inhuman.

Including the weapon on her neck, the blade was slender, and the handle was refined. Rather than a lethal weapon, it more closely resembled the Cosmetic Knife supposedly used to preserve chastity in legends.

Of course, this was just superficial; considering the damage sustained by the robe during the smashing of the display window, from Fu Qian’s angle it was evident that the body usually concealed by the robe had an exceptional shape.

Apart from the legs suspended in the air, twitching slightly, the most bizarre aspect of her was the scorching on her back.

The Hunter’s initial assault obviously had some effect.

But the oddity lay in the fact that only half of the scorch marks, the wounds gaping, were visible. On the other side of a clear demarcation line, it seemed there was no damage at all.

It was as if most of the firepower from that shot had been blocked by something else—the thing hugging her.

From Fu Qian’s angle, combining her posture and expression, it was easy to deduce the appearance of a strangely structured body tightly embracing Harriet from behind, skin to skin.

I consider myself quite worldly, but this design is indeed a bit bizarre; no wonder she wears such a large robe.

Fu Qian inwardly lamented.

The most incredible part was that even at such close proximity, his perception of the invisible presence behind her was merely faint, unable to even outline its specific appearance.

Where did it come from? How did The Sect find out about it? Curiosity piqued.

In any case, it must be this thing that helped block the initial shotgun blast, giving Harriet space to react.

And there’s no doubt that it was it who swept away the Hunter earlier on.

“I told you to stop!”

While the hostage’s thoughts were racing, the captor was becoming a bit impatient, bellowing again.

And to say never give up hope, in the next moment the Hunter’s footsteps really did come to a halt.

Of course, still without a word, his eyes coldly fixed on Harriet.

The optimal attack distance, even with the Lead Flame still on the knife, it seemed he had received some kind of cue to cooperate, albeit his acting was a bit poor, or perhaps he couldn’t be bothered to act at all.

In the face of this development, Fu Qian silently made his assessment.

Whether it was luring him here as a spectator earlier or not continuing to attack now, it was clear he had been instructed.

Of course, judging by his demeanor, this was probably just coincidental; this woman was most likely not going to escape.

“I admit that I have concealed something, but I’ve never done anything bad… let me go, and I promise I’ll never come back here,” said Harriet.

In Harriet’s eyes, this seemed like a small turning point, and she quickly vouched for herself with relief.

Unfortunately, that figure remained silent, unresponsive.

“Mr. An Ke, I believe you need to show some will to survive.”

This undoubtedly cast another shadow over Harriet’s heart. Finally, she turned to glance at Fu Qian, simultaneously applying more force with her hand.

“Fair enough, first off your appearance is quite an eye-opener for me.”

As a prisoner at the mercy of others, Fu Qian immediately took the advice and looked earnestly at Harriet.

“Moreover, judging by the situation just now, it seems you’re not without the power to fight. Why not go all out against this fellow?”

These words of survival instinct, clearly low in content, brought a deep shock to Harriet.

“Do you realize what you’re saying? Do you think I won’t really kill? Or do you believe this Hunter can save you before that?”

But at the end of the day, it was a matter of life and death. She still forced herself to stay rational and correct the other’s misunderstanding.

“I know that it’s not certain, hard to say.”

Facing three questions, Fu Qian still politely provided an answer.

“So you guys might as well give it a try.”

…

Even the Hunter, who always maintained the demeanor of a closer, glanced over for the first time.

“You must be out of your mind!”

And Harriet used this assessment for the second time.

“I think you’re the crazy one. If I die in a nightmare, I die. It’s truly unimaginable to be so afraid.”

Fu Qian let out a cold snort, retorting sarcastically.

“Who told you this is a nightmare…”

Harriet now truly looked at him as if he were insane.

“Didn’t you just say it was?”

Fu Qian looked puzzled.

Before his words were finished, blood splattered.

A sharp Cosmetic Knife left a cut on his neck.

“Does it hurt? Is it still a nightmare?”

After injuring the hostage, Harriet asked again, teeth clenched.

“It feels wonderful…”

However, in the next moment, the hostage seemed contemplative and even reached a hand to touch the wound.

“This pain is truly the most wonderful moment I’ve experienced today!”

Staring at Harriet with an indescribable fanaticism in his eyes, Fu Qian’s index finger followed the blade, slowly slipping into the wound.

Although the wound was not shallow, he was still careful to avoid vital areas and vocal cords.

Of course, it was mainly because he cooperated well with himself.

“Haven’t you ever looked forward to dying in such a vivid nightmare and starting over in some special way? Wondered what wonderful new things might be waiting for you?”

“You really are—”

Harriet finally looked like she was about to collapse.

After all the trouble of kidnapping a hostage, it turned out to be a lunatic with a problematic brain.

Without any fear of death, it looked like if it got any later, he might have just offered up his neck himself.

“What is your name?”

However, Fu Qian didn’t pay any more attention to her reaction, turning his head directly to greet the Cult Hunter.

Alas—

Unfortunately, the other party had no intention of entertaining his gesture.

Instead, there was a sigh out of nowhere, even somewhat familiar.

With that sound, a burst of light suddenly enveloped the surroundings and unleashed an irresistible force.

Harriet’s body was uncontrollably flung away.

As she lost the hostage and tried to pounce in terror, her body rapidly dissipated, along with the boundless silence around her.

The next moment, Fu Qian, who appeared in a normal city night, saw the long-missed Amila.
