Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 1216: Chapter 1214: Night Holy City’s Stick Insect (22)

As for how the Prism of Radiant Transformation twisted this part of history, Fu Qian’s first thought was of the red, white, and blue colors in that mission.

With the final mission summary at hand, Fu Qian naturally knew the trap hidden behind the seemingly distinct color rotation.

No matter blue or red, upon the second entry, the color was actually no longer the same as the last time.

But everyone, including himself, couldn’t identify the change.

Isn’t this a distortion at a fundamental level?

Beyond his initial complaint about it being “too bright,” crazier changes might have already occurred amidst the dazzling colors of the night.

This is exactly why Fu Qian wanted to show the artificial rainbow.

The reason for particularly troubling Su Gao to see it is simple—her automatic defense capability of “Echo.”

Since it’s a distortion of the essential nature of the world, it’s probably not that easy to notice.

As it turns out, even Fu Qian himself could not detect any issues when facing that rainbow.

The sequence of colors did not deviate from his cognition at all.

But this certainly doesn’t prove safety; didn’t the same thing happen with the Abyss, where no differences were discerned?

With changes in the underlying rules, misalignments in cognition have already occurred unconsciously, unless someone, unaware of the situation, can still put up a resistance.

…

“But the reaction in the notes clearly confirms that my judgment was wrong.”

Feeling that the other person wasn’t in a rush and wasn’t avoiding talking about the recent events, Su Gao didn’t hesitate to share her thoughts.

Satisfying her curiosity is one thing; the more she could understand, the more she might be able to help.

“Imagine a special place,” he said.

Fu Qian shook his head, appearing not to be in a hurry at all, and even motioned for Su Gao to continue the stroll with him.

“The sky there is purple, but everyone tells you it’s blue, and eggplants, which are naturally blue, are called purple.”

“Then one day, an outsider suddenly arrives in this world, what would his reaction be?”

“The sky is purple, the eggplants are blue.”

Su Gao answered swiftly.

“Yes, but in this place, even if you find the fairest judge, he would tell you that you’re wrong.”

“I seem to understand a bit, so I’m that outsider?”

Su Gao’s beautiful eyebrows furrowed slightly.

“Correct, now imagine, if you had been knocked out with a blunt hit as soon as you arrived, when you woke up your common sense remained, but you lost the corresponding relationship between each color and its name?”

“Then I would blend in perfectly here… without feeling anything amiss.”

Su Gao took a deep breath, seemingly sensing the eeriness of the situation.

“In the current Night Holy City, you might be the only outsider who hasn’t suffered a concussion…”

Fu Qian smiled and pointed to his head.

“Because of the full-automatic resistance of Echo, you haven’t forgotten as thoroughly.”

…

Back on Ye Island, when facing Nepheli, Su Gao had already demonstrated the peculiarity of her ability.

Despite being completely unaware of Nepheli’s presence, she still exhibited a defensive reaction.

What Fu Qian wanted to utilize this time was exactly this aspect.

Seeing as he even called out Lie Wen just earlier, the misalignment caused by the Prism of Radiant Transformation must have just occurred.

That means if Su Gao’s ability subconsciously resisted the misalignment, it might still retain a sliver of effect.

So in theory, Su Gao could potentially perceive that the colors of this world had been twisted.

In contrast, like the concussed outsider in the story, he wouldn’t notice anything unusual about the sky being blue.

…

In order to maximize the chances of Su Gao detecting anomalies, Fu Qian chose the Clear Dream Ring as the validation site.

Since it’s a dreamscape generated by this world, the distortion would certainly be reflected within it as well, something he didn’t expect to be any different.

But inside, he would have a dominant position, which would allow him to exclude other interfering factors to the greatest extent.

As it turned out, Su Gao did not disappoint with the arrangement, and the observation indeed yielded anomalies.

She firmly believed that the sky should be purple, even going so far as to confirm this belief with the Abyssal Chronicle.

Although this is indeed not a pleasing outcome.

Such complete color mismatch indicates that the Prism of Radiant Transformation operation is complete, and the chances of having everything under control have significantly increased.

The only consolation is that, along with this, the probability of having completed the recent mission has also increased, if only the warehouse could still recognize it.

…

“We are about to enter the area overseen by others, and could be discovered at any moment,”

reminded Su Gao in a soft voice to the side, careful not to disturb Fu Qian’s thoughts.

“Our opponent is a Divine Envoy, I’m not confident that we can detect and evade them in time.”

“It doesn’t matter.”

Fu Qian seemed unconcerned, not even altering the pace of his stride.

“…Should I try to lure that First Phase over here?”

Seeing his reaction, Su Gao thought briefly before voicing the exact opposite suggestion the next moment.

The brief exchange, although short, made it clear to her that the situation was far from simple.

Such frightfully subtle changes, orchestrated by what kind of existence in the background, truly defy imagination.

If it is aimed at Mr. Fu, in these circumstances, involving the lurking Night Watchman forces might not be a bad decision.

True to her natural hunter instincts, her sense of the battlefield is indeed on point!

In response to Su Gao’s suggestion, Fu Qian looked at her with appreciation.

“You can try.”

“Yes.”

Even though Su Gao felt there was something strange about the way Fu Qian spoke, she didn’t ask any further.

However, no sooner had she drawn her Curved Sword than she seemed to realize something, and looked up at the sky.

The night sky, which was already resplendent with lights, unexpectedly featured an arc akin to flowing Magma, rapidly extending in both directions.

But in the blink of an eye, the arc closed back up, forming a sizzling ring with a dark red center.

At a glance, it was reminiscent of the Sun during an eclipse.

However, it did not only appear inappropriately timed but also failed to bring any sense of light.

On the contrary, under its reflection, the entire night sky seemed even more gloomily oppressive.

“It’s in the direction of the central urban area, and isn’t it too close? Almost as if it’s going to land on the ground—”

Faced with this sudden change, Su Gao stopped what she was doing and looked at Fu Qian as if seeking guidance.

Before she could finish speaking, she was startled again.

“Received a message, we are asked to head there immediately.”

“Go.”

Fu Qian was not surprised by this development, but he sighed inwardly.

So, has the situation been completely controlled after all?

Not only is there no need to draw more people into the chaos for himself, but it’s even the opposite, guiding them away from him.

It stands to reason that with the appearance of the bizarre solar ring, even if Su Gao took any action, the Night Watchman would no longer be very interested in him.

“Remember to act with everyone and pretend you’ve never seen me.”

“Okay.”

It’s not a coincidence, is this change related to what I was about to do?

Speaking of which, that Divine Envoy has still not noticed us up to this point, which is oddly sluggish. It seems like someone is helping to conceal…

Without asking further, Su Gao softly acknowledged.

“Actually, I don’t live very far from here.”

After giving it some thought, Fu Qian casually mentioned Chief Yuan’s address and waved goodbye.

Yes.

Su Gao clearly took this seriously and the next moment, she vanished into the vast darkness of the night.
