I Became a Witch in a World Full of Urban Legends

A moment ago, while Lu Yibei was enthusiastically caring about her senior’s spiritual life, at the edge of a basketball court at Hua City University of Technology.

A girl dressed in white sat in the corner of the stands, her figure hidden in the darkness.

Beside her were two basketballs with their skin peeling off, looking deflated and limp on the ground, lined up with the head she held in her arms.

A pitch-black figure, shaped like a chubby version of the suspect Xiao Hei from “Troublemaker Reaper Elementary Student,” sat next to her.

The wandering headless girl, the basketball bouncing in the campus at midnight, the “roommate” who steals snacks and toilet paper… Several of Hua City University of Technology’s most famous haunting legends had all gathered here.

A chilling and eerie aura drifted across the basketball court.

“……” In the silence, the head in the headless senior sister’s arms looked around, sighed silently, and said, “You don’t have to stay with me. I’m not afraid of Jin Yecheng, I was just worried about scaring him, so I hid.”

The roommate grabbed a handful of chips it had swiped from some unlucky soul and stuffed them into its mouth, chewing loudly while glaring at the headless senior sister with shifty eyes, saying in anguish, “Why are you so good-tempered? If he hadn’t stirred up trouble, would you have ended up like this?”

“If it were me, I’d make sure he’d have no toilet paper for a whole semester at school!”

Hmm, just for that line, if anyone woke up to find their snacks or toilet paper missing from the day before, most of the time, it was this thing’s doing! The headless senior sister lowered her eyes and smiled bitterly, “But even if I get back at him, I can’t turn back into a human, can I?”

“……” The roommate opened its mouth, revealing a row of gleaming white teeth, but stopped short of speaking.

It didn’t know how to respond to that.

Just like the headless senior sister said, it knew too–getting revenge on the classmate who failed at making homemade pickled vegetables, didn’t throw them out when they spoiled, and caused it to die of poisoning, wouldn’t change the fact that it had already become a haunting.

“Duang! Duang! Duang!”

After a brief silence, a dull metallic thud sounded as a bronze statue of Lu Xun jumped out of the darkness onto the basketball court, landing beside the headless senior sister and making an agitating noise.

“Hmph!”

“What did you say?” The headless senior sister blinked in confusion, not quite understanding what “Mr. Lu Xun” meant.

“Hmph! Hmph! Hmph! Ah—-!”

The headless senior sister opened her mouth, about to ask what “Mr. Lu Xun” was saying, when she heard the basketball beside her say, “It said, Lady Calamity took advantage of Jin Yecheng burning incense for you and blocked him on the main path of Gate No. 4.”

“Hmph! Hmph!”

“Oh right, and it heard screams too,” the basketball added.

“This is bad! That’s the Calamity Witch–you’d better go check it out, or that kid’s going to get played to death by her!” the roommate exclaimed in shock.

Although it hadn’t interacted much with Lu Yibei, it was very familiar with the little Haunting at Lu Yibei’s house–they often colluded in the night, causing trouble on campus.

It knew well how ruthless the Calamity Witch could be, and even suspected she had sadistic tendencies.

Hearing this, the headless senior sister pursed her lips, stood up, and said, “Alright, I’ll go take a look then.”

Although she knew that junior brother was not only well-built but also kind-hearted, since it involved herself, she couldn’t just stand by!

——–

“So, that’s why you scared him unconscious?”

Lu Yibei held the head of the Paper Cicada Immortal, tilting her head as she looked at the headless senior sister, standing face to face with her, looking like a pair of twin sisters.

“No, no, I didn’t scare him!” the headless senior sister hurriedly explained. “I didn’t scare him. I had just arrived here, and when he saw me, he screamed twice, gritted his teeth and said, ‘Jiang Yuzhen, you liar!’ and then fainted.”

Lu Yibei glanced at Jin Yecheng, who had collapsed in shock, eyes wide open as if he couldn’t rest in peace, and sighed, holding her forehead.

With a move like that, of course people would think you’re a liar.

His body was fine; hopefully he wouldn’t have any psychological problems.

As Lu Yibei pondered, the headless senior sister tentatively asked in a low voice, “Did you say something to him? I–I really didn’t trick him…”

As she spoke, she sneaked a glance at the head in Lu Yibei’s arms, quickly looking away as if afraid of being noticed.

“No,” Lu Yibei replied earnestly, then changed the subject, “By the way, I just got a bit of information from him that might help you find the one who killed you.”

“The killer?” The headless senior sister’s brows furrowed tightly, her pupils trembling slightly.

The double betrayal of her boyfriend and best friend, the footsteps masked by heavy rain, the sudden appearance of a dark figure, the despairing suffocation after her neck was severed, the ugly face flashing under the rain hat in the lightning…

Fragments of broken memories surfaced, agitating the headless senior sister’s mind, making her struggle in terror, helpless, pained, and despairing… Even the psychic energy fluctuation became abnormal for a moment.

Seeing this, Lu Yibei reached out her hand, hesitated in midair for two seconds, unsure whether to place it on the headless senior sister’s shoulder or her head, and finally just pressed it on her neck, where blood was gushing out. The result…

“Ying!”

As if touched somewhere unspeakable, the headless senior sister let out a soft moan, her body stiffening.

Lu Yibei’s eye twitched, and she hurriedly withdrew her hand, saying, “Senior sister, don’t think about it. You don’t need to recall the murderer or the scene of your death.”

Human fear, at its root, most of the time comes from death. Forcing someone who was murdered to recall the scene of their demise is truly too cruel.

“What I mean is, if possible, could you try to remember something about Hu Chuan? Like his home address, or maybe his ID number or something.”

“You two dated for over a year, you should already…”

“No way! We didn’t even kiss.” The headless senior sister suddenly became agitated, blood spurting from her neck like a fountain, shooting over two meters high.

That bizarre and bloody scene could very well give some people who should see a doctor some bold ideas.

After spraying blood for a while, the headless senior sister stammered, “Th-that kind of thing, isn’t it supposed to wait until after marriage?”

Lu Yibei, “???”

It’s not that there’s anything wrong with being pure, but for a haunting that’s been peeping at handsome boys showering for years, is this really something she can say?

Could it be that senior sister is actually a pure-hearted old pervert type of beautiful girl?

“Ev-even though we never did that, I know he has a cousin who lives in Hua City.”

The headless senior sister’s words interrupted Lu Yibei’s thoughts, and her eyes lit up slightly. “Oh? Where exactly?”

“Red Mountain Villa Area, number 16,” the headless senior sister replied with certainty.

Hearing this unexpected answer, Lu Yibei was stunned for a moment and pressed further, “Are you sure?”

Isn’t that the territory of a certain Celestial Being?

And I’ve been to Red Mountain Villa Area number 16 before.

“I’m sure.” The head in the headless senior sister’s arms nodded. “Hu Chuan once took me to his cousin’s party there. At the party, his cousin kept staring at me with bad intentions and tried to get me drunk. It made me really uncomfortable, so it left a deep impression.”

A party, getting someone drunk… Lu Yibei propped her chin with one hand, nodding thoughtfully.

From this description, it’s basically certain that it was Li Tanghan. The Midnight Watchers Society in Hua City had always suspected he was a devotee of a certain Celestial Being, but they never caught any evidence and couldn’t investigate him.

That more or less explains how Hu Chuan was able to get Zhang Shuo’s help–there must have been some shady deal.

Tsk, men’s competitiveness in front of the girl they like is really something!

Just for this trivial matter, he actually used his connection with a Celestial Being’s devotee… The price he paid probably wasn’t small either.

Didn’t expect this to involve a Celestial Being too. Things are getting complicated! Lu Yibei thought.

Although after the Night Parade of a Hundred Ghosts, Hua City had become her domain, there were still some “blind spots” in this area.

Like that abandoned coal mine, and Red Mountain Villa Area…

The difference is, the abandoned coal mine harbors a haunting with considerable power but keeps to itself, poses no threat, and isn’t worth provoking.

The other is simply because she’s really scared.

Red Mountain Villa Area, that bizarre statue, is a direct symbol of a certain Celestial Being. One wrong move and you might summon Them.

Lu Yibei had asked her pesky little sister before, asking her who was stronger, her or that Celestial Being. The answer was a fifty-fifty split.

Given that a certain Celestial Being ≈ pesky little sister, and Lu Yibei < pesky little sister, it follows that Lu Yibei < a certain Celestial Being.

So, if you can’t beat Them, why provoke Them?

She already made an enemy of Them because of Meng, and the fact that They haven’t come after her is already a blessing!

A haunting whose range of harm covers multiple countries is no small fry.

“But, if you want to find Hu Chuan, I’m afraid that’s not possible,” the headless senior sister said.

Lu Yibei was taken aback and asked, “Why?”

“Because he’s already dead…”

Lu Yibei, “……”

No way? Is this some breakup-equals-bereavement talk? Or did he pay with his life to teach senior sister a lesson? That’s a real one-for-one exchange!

“Really.” Seeing the doubt in Lu Yibei’s eyes, the headless senior sister explained, “I saw the records in the school archive. It said he died, just a week before graduation.”

“Really dead?” Lu Yibei asked.

“Yeah.”

“Good riddance!” A sly glint flashed in Lu Yibei’s eyes.

“Exactly, so, as they say, when a person dies, grudges disappear!” the headless senior sister echoed.

That’s why she’d been avoiding Jin Yecheng, afraid of scaring him.

With one of the main culprits already dead, she couldn’t bring herself to hate the accomplice anymore.

“No, no, you misunderstood me.” Lu Yibei waved her hand. “What I mean is, it’s actually easier now that he’s dead. Have you ever heard of a targeted soul-calling spell formation?”

The head in the headless senior sister’s arms widened its eyes, and her severed neck shook left and right.

“I haven’t seen it either, just heard of it,” Lu Yibei shrugged. “But I think we’ll get to see it together very soon!”

As she spoke, a cruel anticipation flickered in her eyes. She’d wanted to learn that targeted soul-calling spell formation from Qing Ji for a long time, just never found a suitable, uh, reason!

But now…

Ancestors, you’re the one who said it: do no evil, do all good deeds.

I’m doing a good deed here, surely you won’t refuse to teach me this time, right? Lu Yibei thought.
