I Became a Witch in a World Full of Urban Legends

After several gunshots rang out, most people fled in panic toward the outside of the airport or deeper into the terminal. The few who didn’t have time to escape also found cover to hide. As the crowd dispersed, the vast terminal became quiet and empty, with only the faint sound of an electric wheelchair moving forward.

The electric wheelchair wasn’t very fast; even at full speed, it was only about as quick as an adult man walking briskly.

This made Huá Sāng, who was riding the electric wheelchair and moving forward, look like a turtle crawling slowly ahead–somewhat comical.

However, the two criminals who had appeared out of nowhere couldn’t laugh at all. They stared at Huá Sāng, who brought them an intense sense of oppression, and cold sweat beaded on their foreheads.

A few men hiding in the shadows saw Huá Sāng confronting the two criminals. Driven by a surge of hot-blooded courage, they originally wanted to rush out and fight the criminals.

As men, how could they just watch a young girl die under the criminals’ guns?

Especially since she was a disabled girl.

She was already miserable enough.

However, when they saw the criminals pointing their guns at them, and caught Huá Sāng’s gaze, they gave up the idea of helping her.

Well, mainly because the criminals pointed their guns at them.Huá Sāng stared unblinkingly at the two criminals, her eyes glowing faintly gold, her dark pupils narrowing into vertical slits, deep and cold.

It made people feel as if they were being watched by some cold-blooded creature, sending chills down their spines.

She might be much stronger than we imagined. Just now, those two criminals seemed to have shot at her, but she wasn’t hurt…

Maybe she really can subdue the criminals? After calming down a bit, the crowd began to think this way.

Once the adrenaline faded, most people still cherished their lives, preferring to wait passively for someone else to save them.

“Hiss—-!”

The astonishing heat and flames from the Alchemy bullets triggered the fire alarm. Instantly, alarms blared, sprinklers sprayed water, and a curtain of water shrouded the terminal.

Within the water curtain, Huá Sāng moved forward slowly. Psychic energy fluctuation burst from her petite body, but unlike the restless and chilling aura of ordinary haunting psychic energy fluctuations, hers was calm and solemn. Accompanied by the thickening moisture in the air, it gave a sense of oppressive tension, as if a storm was about to break.

In a daze, a massive shadow seemed to appear behind her, covered in pitch-black scales and sharp fangs, stirring up a vortex, inching closer.

Caught in the whirlpool of psychic energy fluctuations, the two criminals turned pale with fear, completely panicked. They retreated quickly while raising their guns, aiming at Huá Sāng’s chest.

Seeing the two criminals shoot at Huá Sāng again, Lu Yibei’s heart tightened.

He had to stop them!

Although Huá Sāng had just taken the Alchemy bullet head-on, that didn’t mean she could always withstand it.

If there was even the slightest mistake, the bullet would pierce through her body, or even explode inside her!

Lu Yibei had seen the special task force members use Alchemy bullets many times. After repeated observation, he was certain that the Alchemy bullets those two criminals were using were more than twice as powerful as the standard Alchemy bullets of The Midnight Watchers Society.

But where did they get such high-powered Alchemy bullets? It was too strange!

Fortunately, Huá Sāng’s reckless behavior had greatly attracted the criminals’ attention, giving innocent bystanders enough time to escape or hide safely, without giving the criminals a chance to take hostages.

Otherwise, things would have been even more troublesome.

Thinking this, Lu Yibei dispersed the fireball in his hand and was about to vault over the counter to stop the two criminals from shooting at Huá Sāng again. At that moment, a burning pain suddenly shot through his eyes.

The searing pain jolted his nerves, making him dizzy and unsteady. He lost his balance and fell against the edge of the counter, his vision plunging into brief darkness.

The darkness lasted about two seconds. When his eyes regained sight, and he saw the bizarre scene before him, Lu Yibei was slightly stunned.

Through the misty water vapor, he saw two anxious faces and the empty terminal stretching into the distance.

Those two faces… were the two criminals!?

How could this be?

That scene flashed before Lu Yibei’s eyes, but it shocked him deeply.

He was behind and to the side of the two criminals, at most able to see their profiles, just as he was seeing now. It was impossible to see their full faces, let alone the entire terminal hall.

“Bang—- bang—- bang—-!”

Just as Lu Yibei was distracted for a moment, gunshots rang out again.

The next instant, his body felt as if it had been struck hard, flying backward and crashing into the machinery behind him, half his body sinking into it.

“Boom—-!”

Hearing the loud crash from the machinery behind the check-in counter, the two criminals instinctively turned their guns to look. When they saw the boy with his chest blown open, half his body embedded in the metal shell of the machine, they both froze.

Who… hit him?

Immediately, one of the criminals caught a glimpse out of the corner of his eye–while they were momentarily stunned, Huá Sāng had already closed in to within three meters of them. His expression changed, and he shouted, “Quick, go! That woman is catching up!”

As soon as he spoke, the two criminals turned and ran, putting distance between themselves and Huá Sāng.

They knew very well that their own psychic energy fluctuation level wasn’t strong, and their attack power was much weaker than the Alchemy bullets. Only by widening the gap could they have a chance of winning.

——–

On the other side, a burning pain rose in Lu Yibei’s chest, and only then did he realize he was under attack.

What the hell? What’s going on? Weren’t they shooting at Huá Sāng? How did I, an innocent bystander, end up getting hurt?

What kind of bullet is this? How does it even curve? Is this some kind of gun-fu?

Damn! Can’t you guys aim a little better? So unprofessional, yet you go out pretending to be terrorists–how do you even have the guts!?

Lu Yibei grumbled inwardly, struggling to sit up from the collapsed machinery amid crackling sparks, looking toward Huá Sāng and the two thugs.

In the empty terminal hall, the two thugs, having put some distance between themselves and Huá Sāng, swapped magazines, raised their guns again, and pulled the triggers with fierce expressions.

Seeing this, Lu Yibei’s pupils contracted slightly, and he instinctively clutched his chest with both hands.

The intense pain struck again, his body convulsed twice, and he fell back into the wreckage of broken machinery.

Damn it! Can’t hurt her, so you’re just going to shoot me instead? Lu Yibei cursed fiercely in his mind, grimacing in pain, staring at the ceiling as the “cold, cold rain” slapped randomly across his face.

He felt like he was being targeted.

——–

Scorching bullets traced bright lines through the air, striking Huá Sāng’s body and sparking a series of fiery bursts, ricocheting instantly and falling onto the steel frames, the floor, the glass curtain walls, erupting into clusters of searing flames.

“What… what kind of monster is she? A Class A Psychic?” one thug asked his companion, trembling.

Ordinary psychics couldn’t possibly take those Alchemy bullets with their bare bodies. To deal with the ever-present threat of fully armed special task forces from The Midnight Watchers Society, those Alchemy bullets were enough to pierce the body of a Class C haunting, and could even injure most Class B hauntings.

For psychics with weaker defenses, even some Class A Psychics probably wouldn’t dare to take a bullet head-on.

Yet the girl steadily advancing toward them not only took the bullets with her body, but did so easily–there wasn’t even a mark left on her, not a single frown on her face.

If this went on, not only would their mission fail, but all the Alchemy bullets they’d brought–enough to handle two special task forces–would probably be wasted on Huá Sāng.

“Shut up, she’s just a crippled iron tortoise!” the other thug wiped the water from his face and growled, trying to sound fierce, “She can’t catch us!”

In fact, before making a move, they had already surveyed the entire terminal, trying to eliminate all potential threats.

During their observation, they had already noticed Huá Sāng, but at the time she seemed like a high-level paraplegic patient, with not a trace of psychic energy fluctuation–completely harmless.

Now, although she was displaying psychic energy far beyond an ordinary psychic, she was still sitting motionless in her wheelchair, which proved she really was mobility-impaired.

That’s right, it had to be. If she had such power and could move freely, she would have subdued us already. The only reason she hadn’t acted was because she couldn’t move!

Since she couldn’t move, there was nothing to be afraid of!

The thug comforted himself with these thoughts, his gaze drifting to the electric wheelchair beneath Huá Sāng. A vicious glint flashed in his eyes as he turned to his companion and whispered, “Aim for her wheelchair–blow up her toy car!”

“Bang–bang–!”

With two gunshots, two Alchemy bullets shot out from the dark barrels, tracing lines through the air and striking the battery of the electric wheelchair.

The Alchemy bullets pierced the battery casing and buried themselves inside. The moment they ignited the battery, the spell formation solidified within the bullets by Alchemy erupted, instantly triggering a violent explosion.

“Boom!”

With a deafening roar, dazzling flames shot up, instantly engulfing Huá Sāng’s figure. The shockwave, wrapped in fire, swept out in all directions, tongues of flame lashing as if to devour all life.

The water, vaporized by the intense heat, turned into billowing white mist. The shattered glass curtain wall rained down sharp fragments like a torrential storm, while the twisted steel frames emitted deep, whale-like groans.

At this sight, a few cries tinged with sobs immediately rang out from the corners.

Those who had pinned their hopes on Huá Sāng subduing the criminals were all terrified by the eardrum-shattering explosion and the assault of searing heat. Their legs went weak, and they crouched on the ground, clutching their heads.

“What the hell!?”

Suddenly, someone let out a startled exclamation, breaking the silence.

Everyone hiding in the shadows looked toward the empty terminal hall, only to see a figure tearing through the flames and mist, carried by the shockwave of the explosion–like a sandbag thrown with force, she was hurled into the air!

The terminal erupted into chaos.

“It’s over, it’s over, that girl got blown away! How could she possibly survive that?”

“Those two criminals have guns, we’re doomed…”

“Be optimistic, it’s been a while–police should be here soon!”

“……”

Behind the check-in counter, Lu Yibei had endured three consecutive “gunshots.” Every inch of his body ached, as if all his internal organs were bleeding and his bones were about to fall apart.

Finally, when the pain eased a little, he struggled to climb out from the completely twisted machinery, only to witness a shocking scene.

He saw Huá Sāng’s figure tracing an arc through the air, then suddenly dropping straight down like a cannonball, hurtling at incredible speed toward one of the criminals. In a flash, her head slammed into the criminal’s forehead.

With a crisp “bang,” a faint sound of bones cracking could be heard.

At the point where their foreheads collided, light burst forth, sending ripples of pale blue through the air.

The next moment, the criminal’s forehead caved in, blood streaming from his orifices. His eyes rolled back, his body went limp, and he collapsed to the ground.

Seeing this, Lu Yibei’s eye twitched, and a thought flashed through his mind–Huá Sāng just used Rocket Headbutt on the criminal, and it was super effective!

This girl really had a head of steel–in the literal sense.

With his companion down, the other criminal was briefly stunned. Then, regaining his senses, he raised his gun.

In that instant, his pupils contracted violently.

Huá Sāng, borrowing the force of her head-on collision, hung in midair for a split second, then suddenly accelerated.

She was so fast it was unbelievable–so fast the naked eye couldn’t track her movements.

Gunshots, heart-wrenching screams, and the muffled crash of marble floor shattering erupted simultaneously, followed by the roar of an unknown spell formation.

The criminal fell to the ground, his gun-wielding arm twisted like a pretzel. Huá Sāng’s knee pressed into his throat, shattering his neck and driving half his head into the floor.

The hastily cast spell formation water bullet was too weak, flying only two or three meters before dissipating into splashes that landed on Huá Sāng, soaking her clothes.

Sustained by the superhuman vitality of a psychic, the criminal didn’t die on the spot, but could only let out weak, gasping cries of pain.

All of this happened in less than a second. In the entire terminal, only Lu Yibei saw clearly what had occurred.

The moment Huá Sāng began to fall, her right leg shot out like a vicious serpent, instantly coiling around the criminal’s gun arm. Using her downward momentum, she twisted hard.

With his arm grotesquely deformed, the sturdy man–over 1.9 meters tall–lost his balance and toppled toward Huá Sāng. In that instant, her right leg snapped upward, a phantom serpent flickering into view as her knee struck his throat, slamming him to the ground and crushing his neck.

“Amazing, amazing! The two of us are really badass–took them down just like that!”

Seeing Huá Sāng subdue the two criminals, Lu Yibei, who had been taking hits on the sidelines the whole time, clapped his hands and jogged over.

However, just as he was two or three steps away from Huá Sāng, she suddenly looked up, her gaze fierce, lips trembling violently as she let out a low growl.

“Don’t come over, don’t get close to me!”
