I Became a Witch in a World Full of Urban Legends

“Don’t come over, don’t get close to me!”

Hearing Huá Sāng let out a fierce low growl, and being stared at by those eyes full of hostility, cold-blooded like an animal, Lu Yibei’s steps halted, tilting his head as he looked at Huá Sāng, secretly pondering.

At this point, what does she mean by saying that? Is there some danger I haven’t noticed? That shouldn’t be!

Lu Yibei’s gaze swept back and forth between the two thugs and Huá Sāng several times. As his eyes passed over them, he didn’t feel any heat, nor did any premonition flash through his mind.

It doesn’t seem all that dangerous? Then what does she mean by saying that?

Wait! I get it, is she afraid I’ll steal her kill?

No way, don’t be so stingy. Even though I didn’t directly participate in the fight, I was involved indirectly!

In this battle, I was at least the member who took the most damage on our side. Anyway, there are only two of us. She gets MVP, I get FMVP, that’s not too much to ask, right?

Lu Yibei thought, ignoring Huá Sāng’s warning and continued approaching her.

He believed that with his silver tongue, he could definitely persuade Huá Sāng to share a bit of credit with him.Just a little is enough.

It’s not about greed for credit, it’s mainly because it’ll be hard to explain when we get back.

Not only did I fail to get her safely onto the plane, but after being attacked by an unknown psychic, I did nothing, just stayed on the sidelines the whole time. If word gets out, I’ll never live it down! Lu Yibei thought.

Although he believed he was just planning before acting, not slacking off, rumors are scary things, and the masses who don’t know the truth are always great at making things up.

If things go badly, one person tells ten, ten tell a hundred, and the story turns into Lu Yibei being a coward or something.

Me, King of Hauntings in Hua City, don’t I care about my reputation?

Seeing Lu Yibei acting as if he hadn’t heard her at all and continuing to approach, Huá Sāng couldn’t help but feel a surge of anger.

Damn it, is this guy deaf?!

Why won’t he listen to reason?

Then, as if triggered by Huá Sāng’s restless mood, her Spirit Pattern on the verge of losing control also became agitated.

Uncontrolled psychic energy rampaged through her limbs and bones, as if about to break free from her thin body. Like a hallucination, she heard a roaring sound inside her, like rivers surging.

In her blood vessels, in the gaps between bones and muscles, above her soul.

The light before her eyes gradually dimmed, shrouded by a layer of dark blue mist.

The mist was thick and sticky, suffocating like mud, rolling, surging, spreading before Huá Sāng’s eyes, then bursting open with bubbles like little mouths opening and closing. A stench like sludge filled her nostrils, and her vision grew increasingly blurred.

The terrifying pressure she had been enduring kept intensifying. She could vaguely hear all the joints in her body making a teeth-grinding “creak” sound.

No, the symptoms of Spirit Pattern losing control this time are so severe?

Damn, something big is about to happen. There are so many people in the airport. If the Spirit Pattern completely loses control…

As the symptoms of Spirit Pattern losing control grew stronger, Huá Sāng’s mood became heavier.

Just then, out of the corner of her eye, she suddenly saw Lu Yibei had already come to her side and was reaching out his hand to her. Her pupils instantly contracted, and she squeezed out a low growl through gritted teeth.

“Don’t, it’s dangerous!”

As soon as she finished speaking, Lu Yibei’s hand landed on her shoulder, and her mood instantly plummeted.

With Spirit Pattern in severe loss of control, direct contact with her body isn’t just about diarrhea.

Huá Sāng seemed to foresee Lu Yibei, in about ten seconds, suffering severe corrosion from excessive Night Corrosion Level.

Just like those people before…

He would start with convulsions, eyes rolling back, foaming at the mouth, his face turning bluish-purple like someone drowning.

Then, as the corrosion worsened, his body might undergo irreversible haunting transformation.

Or, due to acute Nocturnal Syndrome, clusters of eczema would appear on his skin, then the skin would rot, flesh fall off, organs decay, and finally only a foul-smelling skeleton would remain, dying on the spot.

Normally, when suffering from excessive Night Corrosion Level, there are only two outcomes: death or haunting transformation.

Either way, it’s something she doesn’t want to see.

One, two, three…

Under the torment of immense pain, Huá Sāng couldn’t speak at all, only silently counting in her heart as if counting down Lu Yibei’s life.

Four, five…

When Huá Sāng counted to five, Lu Yibei’s hand finally left her shoulder, and his body showed no obvious abnormality. Huá Sāng secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

“Dangerous? What danger?” Lu Yibei asked in confusion.

His eyes didn’t feel burning, nor did any premonition flash through his mind. Where’s the danger?

Looking at her like this, is there really some danger I haven’t noticed?

Should I toss a copper coin to double-check?

Lu Yibei was grumbling inwardly, just about to pull out the [Fortune Deity Coin] from his pocket to divine his luck, when suddenly, a premonition flashed through his mind.

[He picked up the firearm.]

Lu Yibei snapped back to his senses, turned around, and saw that the thug who had been knocked to the ground by Huá Sāng’s headbutt had already regained consciousness. The thug was glaring at him and Huá Sāng with a vicious look, struggling to grab the firearm that had fallen to the ground.

“Yeah, yeah! Not finishing him off is indeed pretty dangerous!”

Lu Yibei realized, let out a light breath, and rushed toward the thug in two or three steps. Just before the thug’s fingertips touched the firearm, he kicked it away. Then, under the thug’s stunned gaze, he began to softly chant an incantation.

“Prison, shackles, binding and restraint, sealing spell formation number two, Binding Spell.”

As his words fell, a faint glow flashed at his fingertips. In the blink of an eye, a thread of psychic energy, invisible to the naked eye, shot out from his fingertip and tightly wrapped around the thug’s wrists.

Hearing Lu Yibei’s low incantation and feeling the tightness around his wrists, the thug was momentarily stunned. Even in such a disadvantageous situation, he couldn’t help but feel a hint of mockery in his heart.

Trying to restrain a Class C+ psychic with the Midnight Watchers Society’s sealing spell formation number two? Naive!

As the thug thought this, the next moment, his heart felt as if it had been gripped by an invisible giant hand, skipping a beat.

“Prison, shackles, binding and restraint…”

“Prison…”

“……”

Multiple Chants – Binding Spell!

Feeling the tough threads wrapping tighter and tighter around his body, the thug was overwhelmed by a deep sense of humiliation. His eyes were bloodshot with shame and anger.

How could this be? Wasn’t it said that the Midnight Watchers Society didn’t torture captives? Liars, all liars!

In a daze, Huá Sāng saw Lu Yibei cast the Binding Spell more than twenty times on the thug, with varying intensity, wrapping the nearly invisible threads all over his body. She was dumbfounded.

Is he crazy?

“Prison, shackles, binding and restraint…”

“Prison, shackles…”

“……”

Lu Yibei cast the Binding Spell another thirty times, making a total of sixty-six times. The thug’s burly body crashed to the ground, completely unable to move.

If one probed with psychic sense, he was already wrapped into a human-shaped giant cocoon.

Huá Sāng, “……” Okay, confirmed, he’s crazy, seriously crazy!

Although, according to the rules in , in public places with many witnesses, unless absolutely necessary, high-tier spell formations should not be used.

Most standard spell formations could still be explained away with scientific principles, so even if witnessed, the special task force’s cleanup work would be easy.

But once a precision spell formation was used and witnessed, it would be much harder to erase the impact.

It’s like, watching a horror movie versus personally experiencing a haunting incident–the psychological shadow left by the latter is obviously much harder to forget.

However, even following the Midnight Watchers Society’s rules, the Binding Spell was usually used to temporarily create ropes or bind large non-psychic creatures.

To restrain a Class C psychic, at least spell formations numbered ten to twenty should be used–that would be more reasonable.

Anyone in the know understood that using this kind of spell formation to bind someone was basically calling them livestock–a humiliation on the level of spell formations.

Unfortunately, Lu Yibei understood spell formations, but didn’t understand the field at all.

——–

While Lu Yibei was dealing with the thug, the symptoms of Huá Sāng’s Spirit Pattern going out of control were still getting worse.

She no longer had any energy to pay attention to what Lu Yibei was doing.

Supporting herself with both arms, head hanging low, her body trembled as if she might collapse under the terrifying pressure at any moment.

In her mind, waves of roaring exploded like a tsunami, wild and violent, making her soul shudder, yet at the same time, it was as if something was singing.

As her consciousness began to blur and her vision distorted, almost hallucinatory, Huá Sāng saw a giant tortoise appear before her, raising its massive head and singing loudly.

Singing of disaster.

Eroded by that “song,” Huá Sāng felt her mind go blank, falling into a dizzying hallucination.

Then, just as she was about to completely lose her sanity, she vaguely heard something by her ear, as if someone was talking to her, a bit noisy.

She tried hard to focus and listen, and then she heard…

“Didn’t expect you to be so cautious. I like people like you. I think we might have a chance to become friends! Honestly, when you used that rocket headbutt to knock that guy down just now, how confident were you? At least one hundred percent, right?”

After wrapping the criminal up layer after layer with the sealing spell formation, leaving only his nostrils exposed to breathe, Lu Yibei, thoroughly satisfied, sidled up to Huá Sāng and started chatting with her.

Huá Sāng, “……”

While she was silent, Lu Yibei’s hand quietly crept onto her shoulder.

“So, uh, by my count, the special task force guys should be here in three minutes. Later, could you do me a favor and say I helped subdue the criminal? We’ve met a few times now, we’re friends, right? Out here, you rely on friends. You help me this time, and next time, you help me again. Isn’t that great?”

“Oh, right, I forgot to ask–do you like Bai Xiaohua? If you like Bai Xiaohua too, I think our relationship can go a step further, from friends to best friends!”

What is Bai Xiaohua… Wait! Huá Sāng was about to retort, but suddenly remembered something, and her body trembled slightly.

She struggled to lift her head, her eyes peering through messy strands of hair at the endlessly chattering Lu Yibei, then her gaze slowly dropped to the hand resting on her shoulder, her eyes widening.

Lu Yibei had been spewing trash talk for quite a while, and he’d been in direct contact with her for more than ten seconds, yet he seemed completely unaffected by the corrosion.

At least, on the surface, he still looked normal.

How could this be? Why was he fine?

Could it be that his psychic energy fluctuation level was already on par with the Headmaster?

Impossible, absolutely impossible! Huá Sāng’s mind was in turmoil.

The next moment, as her mind faltered, the Spirit Pattern that was already on the verge of losing control seized the opportunity, surging violently within her with unprecedented ferocity, and suddenly burst outward.

In an instant, it was as if hundreds of heavy trucks crashed inside her body, sending unbearable pain throughout her entire being.

In her mind, the roar of the giant tortoise nearly shattered her sanity.

In her panic, she no longer cared what would happen to Lu Yibei; her only concern was for the ordinary people within the airport.

So, gritting her teeth, regardless of the risk of serious injury or even death, she activated the Spirit Seal while her Spirit Pattern was severely out of control.

Tortoise and snake could coexist and benefit each other, could restrain one another, or… fight to the death.

However, just as her out-of-control Spirit Pattern’s psychic energy burst out, ready to call upon the power of the Spirit Seal and perish together–

She suddenly sensed that a portion of her psychic energy, carrying an excessive Night Corrosion Level, had vanished into thin air, as if something had absorbed it.

The pressure instantly lessened.

At that moment, Lu Yibei’s voice sounded in her ear again.

“Whoa, why are you shaking so much? Did you get soaked and catch a chill? The special task force guys are here already. How about I take you somewhere for a hot shower and a change of clothes? After all this, there’s no way the plane’s flying today.”

“If it comes to it, I’ll find a big suitcase later, stuff you in, and mail you back to the Great Pure Palace. How’s that sound?” Lu Yibei said with a straight face.

Huá Sāng was stunned. She looked around the terminal at the special task force members disguised as SWAT, questioning and calming the crowd at each entrance, then looked back at Lu Yibei, narrowing her eyes.

Was it him? Did he just absorb my psychic energy? That can’t be, right?

Although Spirit Patterns that can purify Night Corrosion Level exist, as far as she knew, the Eifrit Spirit Pattern didn’t have that effect.

Could he have some unknown secret or a special treasure? Huá Sāng wondered.

Her messy hair hung down, hiding her face; her pale skin, cold-blooded eyes, and heavy dark circles made her look like a ghost–she wouldn’t even need makeup for a movie role.

Being stared at in silence by such a girl, Lu Yibei felt a chill, forcing a dry laugh, “Ha, haha, I was just kidding, don’t take it seriously!”

“How could I stuff someone in a suitcase and mail them? Uh, how about I help you find a place to shower first?”

Huá Sāng stared at Lu Yibei for two seconds, then nodded, “Mm, carry me.”

“What? Are you kidding me? You want me to carry you–“

“……” Huá Sāng gazed at Lu Yibei with a resentful look, saying nothing.

“Fine, I’ll carry you!” Lu Yibei pouted. “But later, you have to tell everyone I subdued the criminal.”

“Okay.” Huá Sāng replied softly, unceremoniously climbing onto Lu Yibei’s back, then closed her eyes, entering a meditative state, and began visualizing the Sketch of Walking Dragon in her mind.

Although some of her out-of-control psychic energy had mysteriously disappeared, temporarily improving her condition, she still needed to further suppress it through visualization to fully stabilize herself.
