Chapter 842: Chapter 841 Why Don’t You Treat Me to a Meal? (2nd Update)

”Never mind, you don’t need to make excuses. After all, you already have so many women. What’s one more in the grand scheme of things? It’s just like having an extra louse — no big deal. Besides, handling company matters alone has been tiring for me. You might as well let her come over. I could use someone to discuss things with!”

Han Xue’er, originally a nurse by training, was not particularly skilled in management. To bring the Medicinal Cuisine Shop to its current level of success, she had exerted a hundred times more effort than the average person.

It wasn’t that she liked to cling to power; she was more like a duck forced onto a perch. These past few months, she had been feeling quite worn out. Having someone to share the burden would naturally be more than welcome.

Ye Haochuan chuckled. Han Xue’er was easy to talk to. If it were Xiao Haimei, who knows how much more talking would’ve been needed.

It’s not that Xiao Haimei wasn’t good, but as someone who has been in a high position for so long, it’s inevitable that she likes to keep everything clear and straightforward.

After sharing this good news with Yang Hong, Ye Haochuan found to his surprise that Yang Hong wasn’t as happy as he had imagined. Instead, she seemed a bit stunned.

”What’s the matter? Are you unsatisfied with the job? Don’t worry, while I don’t know what position she’ll arrange for you, I think it certainly won’t be lower than a lobby manager!” Ye Haochuan explained.

”No, I’m very satisfied. Thank you, Brother Ye!” Yang Hong’s delicate face showed a sincere smile.

But even as she smiled, her heart felt as though it had been sliced by a knife.

Are we just friends? I really did overthink it!

Yang Hong was clenching her fists tightly, forcing herself to keep smiling.

Looking at Ye Haochuan’s demeanor on the phone just now, she could vaguely guess that the other person’s relationship with him was out of the ordinary. No — there was no need to guess; the other person was clearly one of Ye Haochuan’s women.

Had someone else taken the lead?

That makes sense. How could a man as outstanding as Brother Ye be lacking women around him? That woman must be incredibly outstanding to be a match for someone like Brother Ye. I’m just a mere waitress; how could I have such expectations?

”Brother Ye, you’ve helped me a great deal again. I really don’t know how I could ever repay you,” Yang Hong expressed her gratitude again, but this time, the look she gave Ye Haochuan lacked that trace of affection. It was just pure gratitude.

Ye Haochuan noticed the change in Yang Hong and frowned slightly.

Did I take the joke too far? But no, she doesn’t seem like someone who can’t take a joke.

Ye Haochuan was puzzled but restrained his less serious demeanor, saying with a slight smile, ”How about this? I didn’t get to eat just now, so why don’t you treat me to a meal?”

He had just ordered food when he saw Liu Yishou getting handsy with Yang Hong and hadn’t eaten a thing.

”That’s fine!” Yang Hong nodded slightly and said, ”But I haven’t received my salary for this month, so I’m afraid I can’t treat you to a big meal. How about this? The place I’m renting is nearby; I’ll cook for you. It may not compare to a high-end restaurant, but it won’t be too bad either!”

Well, that sounds great. Even if the food prepared by a beauty isn’t delicious, it still has its own unique charm, right? Besides, beauty itself is a feast, and just for Yang Hong’s pretty face alone, I could certainly enjoy a couple of bowls of plain rice.

Ye Haochuan chuckled and nodded slightly.

Yang Hong pursed her lips in a smile and led Ye Haochuan towards her place.

At this moment, she was gradually suppressing her feelings for Ye Haochuan and striving to face him as just an ordinary friend.

About ten minutes later, Yang Hong brought Ye Haochuan to an old residential area. She casually bought some groceries at the foot of the building before going upstairs.

The apartments in this neighborhood aren’t tall, only seven stories high, and so there’s no elevator. Leading Ye Haochuan up to the seventh floor, Ye Haochuan was still okay, but Yang Hong was already panting heavily, which made Ye Haochuan quite envious.

Opening the door, a blast of hot air rushed out from the room. These top-floor apartments in the summer are simply like saunas. Moreover, it was noon, the hottest time of the day, making the temperature inside the room surprisingly high.

”Our home conditions are limited, you must find this quite laughable!” Yang Hong said, somewhat embarrassed.

Yang Hong’s family was not affluent to begin with, so naturally, they wouldn’t rent an expensive apartment. She was born poor and didn’t care for vanity; as for a house, as long as it could provide shelter from wind and rain, that was enough.

The apartment was not large, it couldn’t even qualify as a one-bedroom; the living room doubled as the bedroom, and both the kitchen and bathroom were very small.

There wasn’t much in the room; the rooms of most young girls are filled with clothes, shoes, bags, and the like, but hers had very few. Aside from work clothes, there were only three or four outfits hanging there.

Ye Haochuan looked and felt an inexplicable pain in his heart. A girl from the countryside, struggling alone in such a big city, how much had she sacrificed?

However, what puzzled Ye Haochuan was that on the not-so-large bed, there was an item of men’s clothing.

Damn, what’s happening here? Could it be someone has gotten there before him?

Ye Haochuan suddenly grew anxious and asked feebly, ”This clothing is...”

”Oh, that belongs to my father; he’s gone to the construction site!” Yang Hong was organizing the ingredients and responded naturally when she heard Ye Haochuan’s question.

Ever since the last incident, Yang Hong didn’t feel reassured about her father being alone back in their hometown, so she had him stay in Haishan.

Ye Haochuan instantly understood and felt much relieved in his heart.

However, living together in such a tiny room, it must still be inconvenient for the father and daughter.

It seems Yang Hong’s life is really challenging!

But now it’s good. With Ye Haochuan’s involvement, Han Xue’er will definitely offer Yang Hong a decent position. He believed her life would soon improve.

Thinking of this, Ye Haochuan felt a slight sense of resolution and finally shifted his gaze towards Yang Hong, who was busily moving about.

Now Yang Hong had already taken off her work jacket, wearing a white shirt and a pink apron over it, looking somewhat different from a typical housewife, with a bit more valor and a unique charm.

Ye Haochuan couldn’t help but be a bit mesmerized!

Yang Hong was extremely skilled in her movements, quickly preparing all the ingredients. Before long, the entire room was filled with the rich aroma of food.

Ye Haochuan suddenly began to enjoy this sensation, with fantasies igniting in his mind.

A young couple struggling in the city, returning to their dozen or so square meters rented apartment after work, the diligent wife busily preparing dinner, while the husband quietly watches it all, his heart brimming with happiness...

Just when Ye Haochuan’s heart was fully immersed in this feeling of bliss, suddenly a monstrous wail like that of a beast erupted from outside the door, shattering Ye Haochuan’s fantasy instantly, disappearing without a trace.

”Yang, you’ve already delayed the rent for half a month, when exactly do you plan on paying?”

Damn, where did this annoying fly come from? This really ruins the mood!

Ye Haochuan frowned, his mood considerably soured.
