Master Of None

Chapter 2973. A Job?

Everyone realized that the eyes of the sun members here were not saying that they were not strong enough, but instead saying that they did not have the strength in terms of commanding ability to bring the group in to their home. They were also not telling them to leave.

It was clear that the idea of a place anchored that did not move about was not something they wished to turn away.

From what Walker and them had already learned, this was a race that survived and gained strength despite what they faced. However, they had the power to fight off greater adversaries time and time again.

But that made their culture entirely about the rules of survival that they knew. Hence why several had come to see what was approaching their home when they sensed the manas change.

Walker and his group could have been a threat to them. Could have been another set of monsters trying to eat them. Trying to capture them. Trying to eradicate them entirely.

It was just safety that they lived for and nothing else.

Knowing that this was the focus of their culture, none of them pushed back when they told them that they could not bring them to their elemental plane home.

They were not sent away though, proving that there was interest in this negotiation.

”One greater than myself arrives.”

The comment made the entire party focus again. This time though, the light and fire mana around the eyes of the sun race member arriving was larger. There was also a pressure that could be equalled or greater than one of the royal dragons. It could even compete with the party if they were fighting individually.

Walker felt confident enough in fighting them, but he also understood that there were more of this race at this strength and even slightly above. This was just someone with the strength to be able to negotiate with them comfortably.

Someone who could order changes and other important things to be done that those who first came out could not.

”You are not of our home, yet you wander like monsters and travelers. Why would you wish to see our home?” The pressure was directed at all of them but Su was the one to step forward resisting the manas filly without needing to raise her shields.

”We are on the search for those who know the skills of crafting dungeons. We are looking for origin race members. Finding you was a benefit that we are taking advantage of with the potential of expanding our alliance. We do not wish to fight or to force an agreement. If you decide we can not make a deal then we will leave and the odds of us ever encountering you again are slim to none.”

Her words were heavier but it threw off the other eyes of the sun race members watching. They had believed that Walker was the leader and would speak. It was part of their structure of survival that orders from those above were absolute. There were not others who could step over without the proper title and standing.

Their survival had been based on these rules. It was just the fact of their lives and that was that. It worked so what else would they do?

”You speak for all here and there?”

”I speak the truth of what can be offered and what can be shown. Walker and the rest of our party, even those not here, help found the alliance. Genesis, our home, has many races from the elemental planes, the world, and maybe these outer edges of what is known. Everyone there is equal and stands together to grow and survive while also learning more about all that is.”

Her words were soft but firm. A welcoming comment that allowed for there to be no other interpretation.

They were not here to fight, they had happened upon the eyes of the sun race and their home. Now, they were seeing if they could be allies or if they would wander away.

”Stranger. You are stranger than any we have met.” The pause happened as more shifts in light and fire mana made itself clear, another method of communication with this more powerful member of their race.

”I am Solen. An ancient elder of my people. One of thirty still standing as protectors. We will not welcome you in to our home. Our people must continue their work unbroken.” The pause was short as Walker realized that this elder was looking at them for more reactions. Seeing if they would be angered by being denied.

Clearly, he found some disappointment on Midnight’s face and actions but not enough that it wasn’t a good thing. She had wanted to explore and learn more too, it was only natural.

”We will trade knowledge with you. We will ask you for knowledge in anchoring our location. Then we may meet and travel to your home and you to ours. That is the safest method.”

It was caution. An understandable choice.

The eyes of the sun race were a careful race that desired to remain alive and to thrive. To be able to survive just one day more.

This was a chance to move ahead even more but it was not as easy as just saying yes to them. For the world, sure they could say yes let’s be allies. Walker and the others could do this since they had often had better conditions for those who they had made.

Here though? The eyes of the sun race had survived and become strong. They may wish to halt their constant struggle but they did not have to. It was not a life or death choice right now to ally with Genesis.

And that was what was keeping them in this position.

”Anchor your home?” Walker looked behind and sensed that the elemental plane had indeed shifted a decent bit since they had stopped and started to communicate here.

”I could try something, but that would be difficult and I would need protection. It may even attract the attention of nearby monsters. So there will need to be a group ready to defend everyone and everything. I can not guarantee the perfect solution though, if I could do that I would not be searching for knowledge.” Walker didn’t dance around his abilities.

Yes he could seal their elemental plane to a degree which would keep it from drifting. But it would also isolate them a bit more. Trap some of them from entering or leaving. Something that could also be unacceptable for the time being.

But maybe a good thing?

”I will be brutally honest with you. If I use a sealing skill to hold your home in place and allow travel, your elders, protectors, and you may not be able to enter your home for some time until the seal is released. It is not of my abilities right now to open it and close it. I am too young and lack the knowledge. It is another reason I search for an older member of the origin race to learn more.”

The blunt response seemed to cause a stir.

From what everyone sensed in their gut, the eyes of the sun race valued this clear honesty more than they disliked the downsides of what may happen.

”Our elders. My fellow members of protection, they will be around you. They will ensure you are not playing a trick full of lies and violence.” The words were not rough, they were factual.

”Good, you should do that. I could punch any of you down right now and the fight would be over. So if you didn’t bring everyone I would be disappointed in how much you cared for your people.” Everyone looked at Remey wondering why she had said it like that.

However, when the eyes of the sun race members moved around her, they seemed to have a good intention. They even seemed to be impressed. Like she had shared what she said because she knew it would allow them to prove that they cared and that their survival methods were for the best.

”We will move slowly then. You may come and protect your ally.

”So, while we move, Solen... tell us if you have met other races out here in the unknown. We are always looking to know more.” Remey saw the opening and asked the elders themselves. She seemed to be ready to respond bluntly knowing it worked better here. The others almost sighed hearing her taking the lead since she was being rough about it.

Then again, if it worked with who these people were then it was for the best. Especially since they could share more and more knowledge with them the more that they spoke before they tried to do anything.

To Walker, he felt like he was arriving to help with a job right now. Not make allies with others.
